wow!! this excercise really helped me! 3 months ago i was told that i couldnt go en pointe due to my lack of flexibility in my ankles and arch. this video made my arch stronger and also made my ankles more flexible!
you're releve is beautiful but the leg in the sur le cou de pied, after you transfer the weight to the other foot, needs to be turned out more. pushing your knee back will give you more balance.
Thanks! I've started doing some modern dance/aerobic dance classes and am experiencing some flashbacks to the horrible days when my mum decided to send me to ballet. I know that my feet need to be stronger in order to do what I want to do in these modern classes, and this video is very helpful in giving me ideas about what to watch for as I return to some of those old ballet exercises!
with strength, comes balance. releves are the best thing to improves this. 30 Releves on each foot each day will improve this. Aswell as strength in your ankles and legs balance also come when your core in strong. barre work will improves this. good luck. if you have any other questions just ask. cheers rhe
Hi, I dont dance anymore because of family problems and stuff not going to much into that, but yes i dont dance anymore but still want to get onto pointe do you think this could help me get on pointe and could you please help me with this if your able too. Thankyou
I'm doing pointe for a while now, but i'm still having trouble with keeping my knees thight.
I havent got a really good or high arche, so when i stretch my knees completely, ít's almost impossible for me to stand correctly on pointe, my feet aren't that bendy.
the thing is that you musn't stretch your knees like backwards, but you need to feel you pull your knees upwards. If you do this your leg will be strong and firm and you won't have any problem going on pointe. Many girls get problems in the future specially if they're double jointed (like me XD). So do a plie in first, and when stretching pull your knees upwards, you'll feel how your thighs tense. Good luck!
oops, sorry, I'm not native english speaker so I always read "double jointed" and I thought that was the correct word. My bad! in spanish is the same as hyper extended. And yes, this tip was something my teacher always told us, even to girls without hyper extension, 'cause it's easier to get stronger and not hurt yourself on pointe! XD
i'm doing pointe work, just at the bar, but when i go up on pointe, i find it hard to come down right through the demi point, so i obviously need to strengthen my feet. is this the best way for me to do it?
Yes you have to come down through demi point.. You need to study hard with your feet coming on point and down again and again and your feet will get stronger! :)
hey i have a question and it may sound stupid. i dance and i when i stand on releve on one foot a can only stay up for like 3 seconds. so is that lauren girl in the video holding onto anything???
Hi people, I am 13 and a half and i am going on pointe in 2 months. I have been doing ballet since i was tiny and my dace teacher says im good enough to go on , im really excited!!! Um... i have quite toes and i was wondering if this will make it more difficult for me?
Try this: sit on the floor with ur back straight and legs out straight in front of you... then bend and flex your feet. Or try a theraband whilst u do dis...
Lisa you have helped me so much since i started pointe work. All the excersizes strengthen my feet and i can feel myself becoming stronger en pointe. thanks so much for all your videos!
Dera Lisa--(or anyone else that wouldn't mind anwering my question)..i am 167 cm(about 5'4) and i weigh 60kg (is think thats about 132 pounds)do you think i'm too pick for ballet or pointe?do you think i'll crush my toes? am i too fat to dance--i have to admit i'm not the skinniest girl and my things are kinda large and my tummy is not flat either. I have a special scale at home that says i'm about 22%fat and 55% water. What do you think would be a healthy range for a ballet contemporary dancer.
And also at my dance school we do partner work with lifts and all that stuff but i have never let anyone lift me because i am alsways scared the guys might think i'm too heavy and fat. Do you think i'm too big--i've been trying to lose weight but i need to know a healthy weight for a dancer at my height like a minimum and maximum and a weight that would be good for guys to lift..thanks everyone.
how DARE you say such a thing! you aren never too "fat" to dance.. dance is not about looking like a ballerina, its about feeling like one, and expression through body movements. I am like, 5"3 and weight around 122.. and im not 'too fat" to dance. i admit, sometimes i feel like that, but there are dancers who arent the skinniest, but at the same time brilliant.
I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to let you know that ballet focuses more on body proportions than height, and in fact, taller dancers with good proportions have an advantage because they can make naturally prettier lines with their long bodies. (I'm 6'0"!) :]
well im 14 and im 5'1 and 101 lbs and manyy teachers say im to "fat" to be on pointe but it all depends on your ankle strength lol iv been doing ballet for 9 years and my ankles are incredibly strong so good luck~ you shouldn't listen to what others say about you.
Dont feel bad if you havent gone on pointe, i went on pointe when i was 14. And it really has helped, i can get over my box much eaiser than some of the younger girls at my studio.
hey hun--i turned 16 in february and i started doing ballet when i was 14(yep i had to start with the 4 year old pre primarys) and my dance teacher recently told me that hopefully i will be starting pointe next year--that will make me 17...sodont worry about it--eventually you will get on pointe if you work hard enough...happy dancing
your feet are the first thing to stop growing. this is usually when or a little while after you hit puberty. its best to wait til then to do pointe so you don't screw your feet up for life!
like..the height of my demi pointe is wonderful, when im on one foot, but flat in first then rising up is not do great, i can't seem to get the height i need when im on both feet, like rising from first into a demi with both is horrific. does anyone have any tips?
i dont think most skools let u start when ur 9.thts really badfor ur feet cos then ur bones are still quite soft and u can do permant damage to ur feet.its best not to start untill ur at least 12-13 years old, when ur bones are stronger

Darling, being "double jointed" doesn't exist... I think you might mean "hyper extended"
So yes!
But you're right about tensing the thighs... it's a great tip for everyone to use, not just girls w/ hyper extended legs. :)
