It's the same as a hurricane - but in the Western Pacific they're called typhoons. Their names are assigned using the different languages of the East Asian countries that are frequently affected by them. This typhoon happened to have the Japanese name Usagi - which means rabbit. Rabbit kind of has special cultural meaning in Japan. Not super special, but the feeling of the word usagi isn't necessarily as cute and fluffy as rabbit sounds to Splazz from comment below..
Do you live in the states? I hope to get back to the NWP and chase typhoons myself, I hope that I can move back to Guam in a few years. I was there in 1991-92 and got 8 typhoons out there, 6 in Guam and a couple in Okinawa. Guam is a good base for chasing out there. The atlantic basin has been good for the past few years but that will end eventually but the NWP is always good.
Thanks Volvi1. I should add that I screwed up the date at the beginning. It should be 2007!!! That's what happens when you edit video dog tired at 2am...

So you live in Japan and get excited in Typhoon season or you come over here whenever there is one? Either way it seems a bit of a weird hobby :o

EXCELLENT footage James!!! Japan has really been hammered these last few weeks. Were you shooting in HD?

Oh I wish I was filming in HD, not quite in financial position to upgrade to that just yet. Glad you liked the film.
