The LH A340 is one of my favorite planes for 1 reason. The bathrooms are downstairs. It's just so cool going down stairs in a plane after sitting for hours and then walking around in an open lobby. There is rarely a wait because there are like ten stalls. It's great. First class looks much nicer than coach.

@kefir212 I fly around 120,000 miles per year, around 2-3 times per month. I believe that you need around 30,000 miles each way to upgrade, depending on saver or standard award. That means 60,000 miles round trip.

Smaller Planes sometimes are better, just like in this case. Better Payload, more profits for the management etc.

I've never in my life travelled first class! XD I have been on Lufthansa when I was 6 though...I heard they were really rude and racist now though! And their standards have sunk. One of my friends travelled by them, and said the racism was really very bad. Even worse than Air France.

@missmuggledetector I have never seen racism on LH. The guy behind me in first class was dark as night, and he was treated extremely well. Many non-Germans are on LH, and I've not seen it. Perhaps your friend had a different experience. I've found them extremely pleasant and the service excellent. Thanks for your comment, though!

@sfflyer123 No, I was just relating the news that's all. I'm brown myself, but I was very little when we had that flight so I don't remember anything, but my mom said they weren't so nice to her. So I don't know. Of course, I'm not saying it's only Lufthansa, this is bound to happen one time or another everywhere. Personally though, there have been a lot of complaints from what I've seen. Still, a German plane; good quality!

@TheBadkid1001 Yes, I think there are very few people who actually pay for first class tickets. Business class, yes, but first class is pretty rare. Even if people have money and can afford it, it's pretty rare they will pay for first class. A first class ticket from MUC-SFO is around $12,000. Business class is around $4000. Most people would rather pocket that $8000 and stay at the Four seasons instead.

@2001Randomperson The a380 flies FRA-SFO, but from MUC-SFO, they use an a340. Also, they change this to a B747 during the winter months for FRA-SFO, so the A380 doesn't fly year-round.

@TheMakinsense Lufthansa is a German Airline indeed but many European Airlines have their flightschools in Arizona, because of the nice weather. i.e. Sabena had SATC (Sabena Airline Training Centre) In scottsdale but moved to Falcon field. Sabena was bought up by CAE aviation (canadian). KLM also has their students flying in Arizona and so do Lufthansa (goodyear airport west of Phoenix) and Oxford (Brittish).

Munich to San Fran...Nice trip. First class is the only way to go. Other than videos online, I have no idea about coach. Would be a horrible way to fly 12 hours...yike
