Why in the world would the Federal Cav. dismount and form a skirmage line and then proceed to advance a considerable amount of distance on foot. Charge mounted and the battle is over in 5 minutes.
@jthofner Good point. I saw this back when I was a kid and I didnt notice until you pointed it out. I dunno but I thought that type of manouver was used against equally mobile forces like say plains Indians there werent enough of them to march like that. They were very bunched also as we know the civil war was waged with weapons that outdated the tactics in many ways.On a funny note I thought the lack of recoil with the rifles all let it down a bit those rilfes had the kick of mules
Not necessarily, though I do agree...plus I doubt the Confederates would of left their flanks open for a pair of Union sharpshooters to try and come up behind them either, they would have left a least a few men in the house.
It wasnt the best movie ever. Alot of it was corny and unrealistic. BUT you have to consider the movie was a made for tv mini series from the 80s. I was in 5th grade when I seen it on TV. That movie sparked a interest in the civil war I wouldnt of had if it wasnt for this movie. I now write historical books about civil war battles. I say... not a bad film considering.
If you look again that 'Naval jack' is a swallow tailed guidon - rare to be sure, but some were used by CS cavalry units. "Commence firing" is the correct order if you look at a copy of Cooke's or Poinsett's cavalry tactics manual. Stll a corny movie though.
This movie totally SUCKED!!! For all the money they spent to make it, you'd think they could afford one, JUST ONE reenactor to advise them on how to make it look realistic. They have a fake confederate naval jack for a flag. They all have carbines. The son leads the ridiculous charge and gets shot. The whole battle is ridiculous and stupid and pathetic. "COMMENCE... FIRING" OMG!!! I could have done a better job with my camcorder and civil war buddies.
Wow I haven't seen this movie since the 5th grade. I totally missed the ending to this battle scene. I remember up to the part when Stacey Keich kills the crazy general. Thanks for the upload.
no problem didnt think anybody really watched these i was going to upload more battles but i didnt think anybody would watch if you want ill upload some more

no offense but this must be the gayest unrealistic battle ever filmed. Civil War reenactment can do way way better. lol
chaloner 3 years ago
its an old movie i know its not good
halolord66 3 years ago
@chaloner It's not about the fighting. That's all anybody thinks about today. There's a lot more to a great movie than action scenes.
Luigi84289 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
@chaloner The rudeness of the Confederate officer was also very phony.
