Look at patent counts per nation - US is first. Productivity - US is first or in the top 5 depending on how it's define. Canada? not in the game.

Canada does rely on the US for military protection, but if worse comes to worse maybe we could get it together and form a better military with equipment to work with. We would do better to find other trading partners, as I think the US is in a free fall. I am hoping that the US stocks come back long enough for me to get my money to heck out. With their growing debt things are going to get a lot worse.

Sorry sourstud. Canada's significance in the big scheme of things approaches nil.

We do well for our population, but really most of what is good about Canada depends on the US. We have security because our neighbour is benign, our economy is highly dependent on their consumption of our materials, and our universities, scientific advancements, and technological progress are not a proportional fraction of theirs.

To a large extent Canada is getting a free ride off the US.
