@nightreef1 Nice video there. I got some questions for you: Would you use tank water (with more RO/DI water to get down to 1.019) or you only take newly mixed salt? For the first mix, would you use a smaller bottle, or have a more diluted "plankton mix"? Last question: Let's say you don't use all the plankton you produce, would you just wait before spliting the bottles, or would you throw the old planktons down the drain, fill it back and put it into the fridge, then split the rest?
very informative video, just lost you in one part..you said after you split and make your new batch to put it under light for 16 hours then 8 off...ok, then what? you said after a week or two it will be ready...but 16 hours plus 8 hours is only 3 days...my question is what do u you do? repeat the light intervals? or is it ready after 3 days or so?
What temperature is it when your growing it under the counter? Is it safe for it to be at a temperature higher than it says to store it in on the bottle while growing it?
How much would you sell a starter culture for I am planing an making a 10 gallon into a culture tank with copods and other live food breeding for my tank!!
@paullie6719 Hello, Ro or tap water is ok to use , i go back and forth and i don't see a different . you just have to make sure that you clean everything really good.
I can't seem to find any answers about using tap water vs. RO water to make the salt. I can see how RO water would be better because of no contamination, but tap also may be better also because of some of the minerals in it. Can you tell me what works better for you?
Also I followed your instructions and after about a day it started smelling really bad and the water is not clear green, looks like a lot of little things floating in the water. when I turn off the air a bunch of green stuff settles to the bottom. I am thinking maybee I started with an old batch of phytoplancton!!!
@karimsab1 The phytoplankton are consuming the majority (if not all) of the ammonia/nitrates and phosphates that were added between splitting in order to make more phytoplankton. Since you're taking the fraction that you intend to use for feeding your tank before adding the fertilizer, and as long as you're not overdoing the fertilizer, there should be no problem.
you just saved me a bunch of money man thank you am totaly going to do this i can belive its that easy and yet we as reefers have to spend a lot of money to feed are corals thank you for this info..
Wow!! Very informative...I've already spent over $200.00 on DT's. THANX ALOT !!! But I do how some questions...1.Should I start with the big "DT's" bottle that u have?...2.Do I dump the whole bottle of DT's into a 1 gallon bottle, then add 1.019 sg water?
@CkWk78 All you need to put in is 1 to 2 tablespoon of DT's , so a small bottle will do. Fill your 1 gl bottle 2 to 3" from the top and then add the DT's.

Thanks for sharing, how do you sanitize the old culture bottles, if you do so ?

Thanks. Very informative. So once you add the initial shot of fertilizer, you do not ever feed it again?

Hello, are you not adding phosphates with the fertilizer when you add the culture to your fish tank?
