Having owned one these fabulous creatures, i can tell you they are not dangerous, and are just bigger versions of "domestic" cats. They are more expensive to buy, require much more time and expense to keep, and require lots of space which puts them in a league of not being compatible with the average American home, but certainly doable for some people.
All cats are wild animals. We domesticated some which is what we now know as our pets. These cats are NOT dangerous to own like the larger cats, such as Bengals and Cheetahs. They are actually very friendly and lovable. They are just a bit pricey.
@nicknkat When you say "Bengal" you probably meant to say bengal tigers or something like it, right? A bengal is a domestic cat breed with a little bit of asian leopard cat blood.
@Kaitlynfun Get an F1 savannah then, they are bred from servals and domestic house cats. Pretty awesome cats...and definitely not a long shot from getting an actual serval.
@Kaitlynfun Only F1, F2 savannahs are expensive. When you get to F5, they cost about as much as any pedigreed cat. But by then they don't look quite as exotic... A bit too active for me.
The announcer mentioned the importance of breeding programs for cats, of which there are 37 species. While zoos are important parts of many captive breeding programs, the majority of lesser cats' only viable breeding programs are through private and commercial owners.
Sadly, private animal ownership is under intense attack in the US and abroad. Radical animal rights groups, masquerading as animal welfare organizations, are LOBBYING against all ownership of animals for any reasons, mostly BS.
@psycotria I think that has to do more with the "factories." And zoo's are breading endangered animals, not commercial types. I assume that is what you mean by "lesser cats"
For every dog or cat you buy, one dies in a shelter. This is an irreducible fact. For every puppy or kitty you bring into this world, a dog or a cat will die in a shelter. This is a non-debatable fact.

@Kaitlynfun They're as tame as cats! (They just require more space to run about as they are hyper!)

I own one of these cats as a pet. I dont know why you guys are calling them wild or rediculous to own, theyre just active and theyre jumpers.

@mrrsbots They are a wild animal. If you own one and its safe then whatever fine. But they are a wild animal.

these cats are not bad. its not like owning and playing with a lion or a giant bengal tiger.
