DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER VERA LYNN??? you must be joking, surely. I don't think there is a Brit that does not know her. It's more likely he/she doth not know David Cameron :-)
@Strophal PS, since I know that youtube watchers aren't famous for their humour, I am aware of the Pink Floyd quotation. I was just joking. But I mean it! ;-)
The words refer to WW2 the soldiers saying goodbye to their loved ones -not knowing when they would see them again lt was first sung by Vera Lynn in 1942
I chose this song to bury my grandfather but my family thought it was too sentimental. That's true, but it's lyrics are positive. He looked after me from when I was born until I was 20, he was like a father to me. He's gone for 5 months now but it feels like a lifetime.. I love you, grandfather. We'll meet again.
@lawrencethelizard I'm sorry that I can't answer this in good english... I think there's an answer for that question in the music. Is something about see again old friends united, in a day where all the indifferences were left behind, with no problems or doubts. But there's frustration in that music, by the person who do that questions. He can't see his friends united again, the problems and doubts still get them apart...
Vera Lynn made this song famous. Pink Floyd sang about her on the album, "The Wall." Vera Lynn sings this song at the end of the movie Dr. Strangelove.
@lawrencethelizard Vera Lynn sang it beautifully, but, this version, I think, was meant to have a more metaphorical meaning. By the time Johnny recorded this awesome version, he knew his time was almost up.
Johnny Cash makes every song better. Great video!

This plays at the beginning of the movie 'Crazies'. I was hoping to find it here - thank you!
Also, Willie sings "Bring Me Sunshine' at the end, just before the credits.

Vera Lynn kicks ass! Her emotion behind that voice (one of the best in my opinion) can't be duplicated.

@Chronbear420 It's a reference to the end of Dr. Strangelove. It's a great movie, watch it.

i guess it means that we (people and nukes) will "meet" again someday.
and footage of testing weapons of mass destruction with lovely melodies in the background, what do you call that...irony?
very much like Fallout 3's theme song.
pardon my english.

vera lynn might have sung this first, but makes JC version so poignant is that it was releases right before his death.....
