Elvis told Ann he was choosing Priscilla over her because he had "promises to keep" which is how that whole rumor turned into lore that everyone believes. He told her that mostly because it was the perfect reason to give. Much easier than saying I love her more, I prefer her over you. He absolutely made the decision to marry Priscilla over Ann... it was because of the type relationship he had with Priscilla...they had incredible bond. And as far as relationships go..he was crazy for Ann but he shared an incredible love and bond with Priscilla... which lasted until he died. Their's was an incredible love story. They split mostly because of his philandering ways which she could not take....but the love between them always remained deep and true. He was probably closer to Priscilla than to anyone else in the world, right up until he died. He was not close to many people but he was extremely close to Priscilla.

Elvis married Priscilla on MAY 1/67 She first met Roger in '61 and Elvis in '63. Roger Smith was married at the time with 3 children. They got engaged in '66 and were married May 8/67 one week after the PRESLEY'S. They could have got together when they were both single. But they didn't. Okkkk, he had talent, he had good looks. What else? Cilla never had talent, and she's not even looking good anymore (well, she's in her 60s also)... He threw everything away in his early 40s. As far as Ann Margret, their affair was in 63 & 64. I don't know if they saw each other after that, and she married a week after Elvis did in 67. However, she had been dating Roger for awhile. Elvis did come to her in 67 just before he was to announce Priscilla's pregnancy to tell her how she still felt about her, and did try to get her back after his separation. All Ann has said is Elvis had "promises to keep," and he was honorable.

I totally agree. On one site they were even threatening to kill her! To them she either killed him from CA, or he died of sadness six years after separation, over four years after divorce.and a lot of women. The "wounded king" idea! They read something into every song and expression. If that was going to happen it would have been right after she told him she didn't love him any more and was leaving on Dec 30,71. If he was sad, maybe it was because he couldn't get Ann Margret back in 72 & 73!

Ann Margret is a beautiful and classy lady, and one of the few in his life who loved him for himself, and not what she could take from him. She was a much better match in personality, mentally, and physically. Elvis did try to get her back after his separation, but she was married and loyal.

Okkkk, he had talent, he had good looks. What else? Cilla never had talent, and she's not even looking good anymore (well, she's in her 60s also)... He threw everything away in his early 40s. She's still here, she knew how to live her life. He was a weak man. Priscilla knew when to walk away. Sad for Elvis. He was the greatest entertainer, but a weak, weak individual.

Let me tell you this: I am a huge Elvis fan and somehow, somewhere in my words you could detect pain, sadness and dissapointment! He didn't have to die, he chose to die. More important thou, once you're admitting "he was human, he had vices" that should be enough to put a stop on blaming Priscilla for what happened to Elvis. Stop blaming her for leaving Elvis. It hurt like hell to watch him going down, she couldn't take it anymore. Nobody could've helped him when he didn't want to help himself.

Elvis did NOT choose to die in any way, shape or form. I don't blame Priscilla either since they hadn't been together at all since their legal separation in '71. I do blame the doctors that gave Elvis the drugs and any other EMABLERS around him such as the pharmacists, the people who picked up and administered the drugs, and those who knew, and did not SPEAK UP. Ann Margret was one of the most beautiful women to grace the screen....she obviously had a special connection with Elvis as evident in several interviews...if they had met at a later time, perhaps Ann's maturity and priorities would have opened the door for the two of them and saved Elvis. All conjecture I know but look at the devotion she had with her husband in thelast 3 decades....is Roger still alive??

It's well-known Ann-Margret & Elvis saw each other intimately for about a year. Elvis' love never waivered as he sent flowers to every one of her shows in Vegas until the day he died. She remains private re their relationship, but admitted to Charlie Rose they were an item. Never thought of myself as an Elvis fan, then happened to catch this scene on TV. Brilliant! Witty lyrics, foot-tapping tune.. These two had SO much chemistry!! now watching as many Elvis movies as I can. But this is still my fave. Thanks for posting this.

"The Lady Loves Me" is such a very spectacular song. This is one of my favorite Elvis songs. This song was a perfect fit for "Viva Las Vegas". "Viva Las Vegas" is such a fun and excellent film. Elvis and Ann had very amazing chemistry. All of those pictures were very fantastic. Thanks so very much for making and posting that very marvelous video.
