  • What do you think of the Blade strats?

  • @ghaddy07 I think they are awesome. I was very impressed by the quality for the money when I tried one.

  • Can the spare parts of a fender strat be used for this guitar? I need to change the pickup selector switch...

  • @SanjeevGeorgeV Should be ok.

  • What kind of bridge is better to put on this strat? I have SX strat sunburst color and i dont really like hardware, especially bridge.

  • @dufa1993 Fender vintage style bridges are great. Not sure how they'll fit though.

  • Guys, I would exchange my ibanez grg 170 dx for sx strat, is it a good deal or not, please answer me?

  • @stojkebg Yes!!

  • What pickups are you using?

  • Is the fretboard maple or rosewood?

  • @SanjeevGeorgeV Rosewood.

  • @rotren How do you clean this fretboard? is there anything homemade that can be used safely?

  • @SanjeevGeorgeV Lemon oil.

  • @rotren Can olive oil be used?

  • @SanjeevGeorgeV Doubt it. See w w w . cumpiano.com/Home/Articles/Articles/fbrd%20oil.html for a better answer.

  • I have an SX strat too...quite good.

Do you know about 7 strings? I am looking for someone who does...

  • hey could you tell me if this strat is similar to a fender in terms of dimensions? i'm looking for a good strat imitation to do a DIY project and i want to be safe in knowing that in buying this guitar i could change every single part (most extreme i may go is changing the neck)... plus i want the guitar body to have that fender feel so the body needs to be pretty exact too

  • Guitars dont suck...players do.Iam sick and tired of freaking experts that analyze equipment like nasa experts and when its time to play its almost embarassing to hear.Squiers,sx ,bacchus, a pole with strings....if you are a good player you can make them wail...if you are a bad player you sound equally bad even with expensive gear.Slow necks fast necks you are eating the advertising bullshit like candy.Of course the alternative is to...practise....nahh lets buy some more gear.

  • i have that guitar in black

  • i just brought a squier classic vibe 50s strat , i allready have a usa delux strat and a gibson 335 , and it fits right in with nothing lacking , superb guitar id say.

  • If Squiers don't suck, I must have had bad luck with mine. Sharp fret ends, uneven frets (even a couple of loose ones), bad plastic nut, cheesy tuners, dull sounding cheap electronics/pickups. Bought it lightly used, but it needed a lot of work. I do not have an SX guitar to compare with, but my Xaviere was in my opinion a much better guitar.

  • @ShadyAchmed I think Slash's first electric was R brand.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey I am thinking about getting this one, I am a extreme beginner in my 30's a few questions to the poster. Should I replace the nut and if so with what kind exactly? Also I am right handed but feel more comfortable using my left for picking, is that abnormal?

  • @Openmic78 I wouldnt worry too much about replacing the nut right away, but if you were i'd go graphite nowadays. And no its not abnormal, at least i dont think so. i play the same way, i do most things right-handed but i play guitar lefty. Hope that helps, cheers!

  • I actually think Squier Bullets are not bad sounding to be quite honest. Well they feel very nice to play on. But 90's lower end squiers, holy shit. Those things are terrible. To be honest, I'd much rather have a first act from target than one of those. The neck is good, but it doesn't have a strat feel whatsoever. The body and everything in it is garbage. Plywood, ceramic single coils, the tremelo bridge is warped, need i say more?

  • i'm thinking about buying an sx strat. but i want to change the pickguard with a warmoth HSH pickguard. but on the warmoth site it says that warmoth pickguards are made to fit American and japanese made fenders and it MAY fit a clone. Do you think that a fender pickguard will fit an sx strat?

  • hey i have a question for you, how come some of the SX strat guitars have different headstocks, if you go to the SX website they are like yours but if you go to rhondo music they appear more 'blocky'... are there two types of sx guitars? one better quality perhaps ie squire/fender???

  • Me gusta su improvisacion -.... ;)

  • At least i's not as bad as shitty guitars from the boardwalk (I believe the brand was "Viper"), they don't even have metal frets, the frets are made outta WOOD!

  • @danecook321 Lemme guess- wood painted gold? I got that on a cheap acoustic guitar that was a cent on ebay.

  • @Kingddd333 Yes, frets were painted shiny gold but when I played it, the frets were compressing

  • @danecook321 Yeah, my "frets" are nearly completely worn out now xd and the action is sky high. It was a crappy classical guitar that was strung with normal acoustic strings.

  • SVK guitars makes an awesome strat copy feels better than the real thing

  • Christmas '09 I treated myself to 2 guitars (not by total design). First I bought a Squier Butterscotch Telecaster (limited edition, so they say) w/maple neck. Then a SX vintage green Telecaster w/maple neck. Both had excellent finish, the SX with a varnished neck while the Squier natural. Me personally, the SX neck is a little bigger & fits me better.

  • Nice! What pickups have the guitar? Are the originals?

    Thanks

  • very nice! sound very natural

  • If you are seriuosly good to play... you will play every guitar...

  • SX is better than Squier

  • You guys want a surprisingly good guitar? J Reynolds strats. Seriously HOT pickups, nicely fine-sanded maple neck with no gloss finish, The body wood is poplar and is extremely light, and transfers the sound beautifully.

  • eu tenho uma!! ótima guitarra!! lol

  • It really sounds good. Thank you for the demo.

  • good guitar, good playing, noisless clean and distortion, good aqnd cheap guitar, im buyin it

  • ik heb mijzelf een es-strat aangeschaft 6 weken geleden, ik speel al 20 jaar op

een fender strat, maar die sx is echt te gek, speelt heerlijk. vooral op een marshal,

en een blues overdrive (behringer). keep on pickin' guys and girls!!!!!!! bbpv

  • Rotren, Im thinking of getting an electric guitar to start learning to do mod's on them. I'm debating between an SX strat replica or a Squier. Which one do you recommend? Also what pickups do you recommend I've seen you use custom shop 54's. I'm also looking at the 69's or seymour duncan. I want a blues sound. Thanks for all your videos I really enjoy them!

  • @jazzzfer The newer squiers are pretty good. I don't know really which is better. I would guess the Squier, actually. CS 69 are great pickups too, as are DiMarzio noiseless pickups and of course Suhr V60LP pickups.

  • @rotren A friend and I tested $199 to $500 guitars in a sound booth recently. From Ibanez, Gibson, Fender, Squier , Jackson. After 3 hours of testing we agreed that the biggest bang for the buck, richest sound, was the Squier Deluxe Hot Rails Strat at $289. Build date was 2010. We were surprised to say the least. I bought it that day and it still holds it's magic. Go fiqure, I think it's like buying a car sometimes you get a lemon-sometimes a pearl.

    Cheers

  • @oldham009

You tested a $500 Gibson? On what planet in your alternate universe was that?

  • jazzzfer:

Squires use soft Basswood bodies instead of Alder or Ash, don't know if that makes a difference to to you, but I'll choose the the alder and ash everytime :)

..ps I can hear the difference, also basswood often can have issues like tremolo screws backing out and stripping etc.. because the woods so soft.

    BTW nice playing rotren

  • @jazzzfer SX is was way better than squire before Fender sued them, and nw that they don't sell strat copies just get a good squire, i.e. mahogany body, alder neck, maple top, or something like that

  • @jazzzfer SX is was way better than squire before Fender sued them, and nw that they don't sell strat copies just get a good squire, i.e. mahogany body, alder neck, maple top, or something like that

  • @jazzzfer SX is was way better than squire before Fender sued them, and nw that they don't sell strat copies just get a good squire, i.e. mahogany body, alder neck, maple top, or something like that

  • @jazzzfer Theses SX guitars from Rhondo.com cost about half as much as a squire from Musician's Friend. If your going to change it. Save the $100.00 or so and apply it to the mods.

  • @jazzzfer get a starsun

  • I've just bought an SX SST/ASH.

I also bought a Mighty Mite CBS style maple capped neck with a reverse Headstock(for that Jimi vibe).

I was unsure of how well this new project would shape up but this has reassured me =)

A 2 piece American Ash body ...sweet as.

  • @Ozeshin A reverse fulcrum bridge would just complete that like a cherry on top :o

  • i bought an sx vintage strat copy for 79 bucks now after over 3 months of modding and adding stuff to it a friend is willing to buy it for 1999 bucks but i refuse to sell it cause it is my preciousity

  • Well, sounds like a pair of geniuses.

  • thank you unique stuff is cooler see van halen's guitar replica for 25 grand and angus young replica for 3 grand i love to be unique

  • @thecoolkid4ever whatd you mod it with, im thinkin of throwing some lace sensors in an sst62, and which sx do you have

  • Just shows what can be done with a 'cheap' guitar - Thanks Rotren.

  • i love the melodic lick that starts at around 1:45 its so good i sat down for 20 mins and learnt it .. amazing player

  • I'm surprised that out of all these comments nobody has mentioned Yamaha Pacificas. Anyone know how they compare?

  • The Pacificas are at least as good, I would say. Probably better.

  • What I'm thinking is that if I'm going to get a "cheap" guitar, I'll end up replacing parts anyways, so it probably makes more sense to start out with the cheapest, which is SX. However, I wouldn't want to have to replace an uncomfortable neck. I'll probably start myself off with an SX since I've been hearing such good things about them... Thanks for your input.

  • Am i wrong or there are really good SX and Agile strat copies ?

  • Hi thanks for posting the demo. Question, what makes the Pacificas better?

  • Squier is a musical instrument brand name owned by the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.

  • it's simple. people who say Squiers suck are not good enough guitar players to make them sound good. i, on the other hand, can make a Squier sing.

  • no mate thats complete bullshit.

  • I watched your video, and you have skills, and your recorded videos sound surprisingly excellent. but the live performance, you can hear intonation issues from the bullet, and it has the classic nasally tone you get from a cheap guitar's pickups. Like the saying goes, you do get what you pay for.

  • What you say is true and I ve been told so from good musicians too. I personally own a affinity one and its a good instrument with a nice set up

  • @peskypesky

Well, you crafty little dog, you !

  • @peskypesky i can make it sing opera... XD no i got a starsun, its the same crap except with humbucker, great for metal

  • @peskypesky you, I have a squier jazz bass, and I would never wanna get rid of it

  • @peskypesky They say they suck because they attempt to play metal on it, or they don't know what they're doing. I got a plywood-ceramicsinglecoil-squier [with a really nice neck actually] that sounds great through a marshall and I love it. Only complain I have is that it goes out of tune a lot and the tremolo ability is broken

  • I have an SX SST Fat (H/H), and it is a solid guitar. The neck is one of the most comfortable I have ever played and the jumbo frets feel good when bending.

    As always, great playing, bro.

  • It's probably some crappy Squire.

  • hey man, not all squiers suck

  • ive never met a good guitar player call a squier strat Crap.

infact even some the best guitar players in the world have been know to play squier guitars and make them sound better than a 2,000 guitar. so maube its the player and not the guitar.

  • A stock, low-end Squire strat IS crap. Some more expensive models are alright but most suck pretty hard.

  • i dont get it? i thought squiers were as inexpensive as it comes, and i was talking about a stock squier, i dont mean to sound like im arguing with you,but i do disagree that squiers are crap, the only thing ill give anyone is the way they are Factory setup, that could use impovement, but ill give it to you like this, buy one to your liking, set it up correclty,IF you replace hardware, youve got a better guitar than American standard strat,if not you still have a better guitar than most expensive

  • Untrue. This is what a lot of Squier owners or people wanting a cheap guitar try to convince themselves. Squiers are made of cheap wood. Therefore will not have " the same tone or better" than an American or even a MIM. Alder kills basswood. Fact. Wood grade us critical. The necks are cheaper as well, and won't hold tune over long periods of time. The bridge, saddles, nut, tuners, pots, neck joint are all cheaply made. A Squier can sound decent with upgrades, but as good as a real strat? NEVER.

  • well if the proof is in the pudding then i ate the pudding and ate the cup it came in,ive played a squier several times giging, and have played along several stratocater guitars sometimes through the same Amp.and the tonal differences were evident to me.and ive had people say ive changed the electrnics and pups, wether or not alder is better than basswood, might be the case but ive yet to find a strat showing me any difference,so id say ive convinced mself with facts and ill save money while i doit

  • Same thing I used to say and think.

You got your opinion, I got mine. I prefer sustain, better aging, staying in tune, deeper tone, better hardware and electronics, smoother frets that last, necks that don't warp, and finishes that don't chip and flake.

    You prefer saving money.

    Different strokes for different folks.

  • yeah youre right about that, to each their own, but i like all those things, AND saving moneynow and again, and unless you figured out how to set up a guitar properly i can see why you think and say what you are saying. but as far as me, i have none of those issues. and im happy and content with My "Cheap Squire" above other guitars i own, oh yes i do own expensive guitars too,but my point is not price, was just to point out you dont need to be broke to play a good guitar.

    Peace....

  • One of the first things I learned was setting up my equipment.

And I do believe it can be beneficial to buy cheap and upgrade. It's just that more can go wrong, and there are certain benefits better guitars yield which you cannot get from a cheaper guitar.

I recently bought a strat. I was going to buy a Squier. A friend and long time strat man warned me, but I thought I was in love with this little deluxe.

On buyday, I picked up the squier, then a fender... the weight difference was like..

  • 3 lbs. The squier tone was thin and frail. It held tune fine, until I started bending strings--yes, I did stretch the crap out of em. The neck felt better, looked better, sounded better, and was fretted better. The pickups were hotter, sustained longer, and had more bite and life. The tuners were more sturdy. The saddles weren't made of junk. The nut wasn't indonesian plastic crap. The bridge held tune after using the tremolo.

It's just better, but sure, you can get good sound from a cheapy.

  • i understand what you mean, beleive me im not saying that you will not get a poorly made squier,if anyone buys one it better be the one you really want to gamble on,i personaly go after body, then feel the neck, check the way it was put together, i bought one 14 years ago,and i was real skeptical, then i played it.was like hum?

tuned it,and said okay hell its 150,on sale for 130 why not.took it home adjusted the neck bridge put 2 springs, and like it beter than the woodstock strat i have?

  • I disagree completely. Basswood is also used on early or mid FENDER JAPAN models....and it sounds great. Bassier not as trebly, different, not worse or better.

I played a squire classic vibe and it blew my mind for the price. If I didnt have a first run american deluxe I would snag one.

wood has such a small effect on electric guitars

you do realize that if you did a blind hearing test it would be impossible to tell the sound difference between a MIM strat and a MIA strat

  • i totaly agree with you.i have always heard little to no difference in any strat. especialy when compairing them with Squiers.ofcourse you might find a hardware difference here and there, but obviously for the price, they arent going to have real expensive parts,BUT as Far as the build, wood cut shape, paint, even on some of the pickps theres little to no difference, but its always Kids claiming that squiers arecrap because 1.they cant really play guitar or 2.they heard from someone.buy a squier kids

  • Not true, the MIM pickups are very distinguishable in my opinion.. maybe cause I'm so used to a MIM strat. But they are definitely much more bassier and with less definition, not as rounded as other alnico pickups but a great tone for jazz.

I think a better way to put it is that a MIM strat with different pickups might be indistinguishable.

  • a good player can make any guitar soun good so what your telling us is that you suck?

  • You plays nicely, dude...not so hard but skilled and pleasant. Nice that guitar too.

  • is this the short scale model?

  • I want a damn SX 57,theyre neat litle guitars, and cheap as fuck.idc how they sound really as long as they feel good and play good,i dont care,i can shell out $60 for new pickups or $10 for a graphtech nut.what are the worst and best things about these SX STs? anyone one?how big are the frets, are they actually jumbo, are they razor sharp like every cheap guitar,is the nut super cheap, the bridge aweful?anything like ive heard?

  • they feel great are amazing but steer away from the graphtech nuts because they are too low, also the sx strats are completely flat under the nut so it will just crack. I have a bone nut which i carved from a blank, the bridges are ok but need alot of adjustments to get them good and the frets are smooth but the edges are a bit sharp but yeah the body and neck are beautiful, but as you already know the pickups are shit i use tone rider pure vintage its a good buy but about au $200 to get good

  • From what I hear, SX guitars don't normally have very many problems. They're well-built guitars with decent parts.

  • Give it a shot, my man. I have 2 SX Strats myself and their Lefties. Check out the SX Vintage White Strat I use on on my video "Black Malmsteen Bitch!"

  • hi i just got the sst57 and i am having buzz out the ying yang had it set up by a pro he filed and polished frets shimmed neck adjusted truss rod raised and lowered bridge to no avail i see the 2 way adjustable truss rod sticker anyone want to hazzard a guess what that means any help would be appreciated

  • 60cycle hum lol?

  • Just to hazard a guess, I'd say the guy didn't level some of the frets enough, or the bridge could have some loose parts, or the nut could be a bit loose, or the nuts on the tuners might be too loose, or you might have some frets that are popping up towards the middles and need to be glued back down.

  • i am going to buy one and completley devote it to jimi hendrix tone does anyone know what kind of pickups he used

  • hendrix used magic :D

  • Jimi used stock Fender pickups I believe...and like the previous poster said...most of the tone lies in his fingers!

  • Very nicely done,I just recieved my SX SST SE today, only $80.00!! It needs a good set up,though you can say that of any newly bought guitar.Getting the rest of my rig next week, cant wait to try this baby out!

  • VERY NICE PLAY !!! nice tone, everything was great man ! ! ;-)

  • I played one yesterday. Sounded great when I plugged it in to a Vox amp and it was only 80 bucks.

  • what does SX mean?

  • i wonder...what does fender mean, or gibson or ibanez what do those names mean???

  • The Founders last names, such as Leo Fender, Orville Gibson, Salvador Ibanez.

  • SX would make such a cool last name ;p

  • Hi, my name is Frank SX. Are you laughing at me

  • My name is Zack SX... AM I cool?

  • You are SO cool!

  • ...They're guitar brands :D

  • Super Xtra cheap.

  • 1:03 - 1:23 my favourite part :D

  • What guage strings are you playing on the SX?

  • 09 - 42

  • the trick to keeping short scale guitars in tune? heavier strings. say a 24" scale, use .11's or even .12's the tension is higher as in a longerscale say of 25.5 inches with .10's or .11's. i have a Jaguar.24" scale.i use .11- .54..stays in tune nicely.

  • I have an SX '57 model with GFX vintage alnico pickups (and bone nut) tryied against Fender usa american standard in a Epi VJ without mods and believe it or not, the SX sounded better...All persons in the room included the owner of the fender noticed after first licks! The neck feeling on the Fender was better though IMO, i dont mean other than if you are after that strat characteristic sound and you are in a budget the SX will do the job pretty nice...

  • You've got a great sounding amp, and guitar. How does the Whammy do?

  • The whole bridge is crappy.

  • every week i watch this videoo

    this dude is awesomee !!!

heyy robert congratulations again n thanks,

    =)

  • heyy Mr. Rotren u are the guy , play very good

hey i wanna buy a guitar how i can buy ?

like a fender , but not fender cause is very dearly

, so i wanna play voodoo child, hey joe , like GOD hendrix , u know , thats a nice guitar , it is good i buy a guitar like urs?

the model names is shelter SX SST62 Stratocaster thank u , u are amazing

    5 stars

  • The SX is pretty good, also check Squiers, they are of similar quality.

  • wat pedal did u use for the distortion???

  • No pedal, just the amp.

  • sounds great! im a bit confused on what kind of guitar this is? you say its an SX ? what does that stand for? Is it a fender stratocaster? Love the tone. thanks!

  • SX is a chinese sort of copy company.

The only dealer i know of is rondomusic(dot)com.

  • does that have the stock pickups on it?

  • Yes.

  • there is a company in spain who do the whole range

  • Hi,

    nice video...

This is the aged white 62' or a repainted version?

    Thanks

  • Thanks, it's a SST62 in yellow color.

  • I have an sx gg1 k-wt and it is really good bad amp but I am planing to buy a new one

  • Compare to the classic player 60 and 57 did you have an opinion?

  • A Fender is a way better guitar.

  • amazing!

  • Actually after watching your video's on the SX Guitars--- I went ahead and ordered one...!!!!!!

  • were can you order one?

  • rondo music. just google it and it will show up.

  • Wow dude. Could you get any more mean?

  • Better get over it dipshit, almost everything is made in China these days. I wouldn't be surprised in 10 years if Strats were made in China.

  • if they were i would make one myself

  • jesus, you can have a chinese craftsman who has worked with craft his entire life or have a mexican build your 'american' start

get over it when it happens

  • hey i got sx guitar too but it produces alot of hum with MD-2 pedal on..how do i solve it? :(

  • What's a strat without hum? :P

That should be normal unless you're getting an insanely unbearable amount of hum

  • oh lol. i thought only a cheap guitar will have hum. actually the hum is quite little. there will be minimum hum when my hand touches the strings

  • You've got to touch any metal part of the guitar ;) It does the same thing on my strat. Don't worry. Now, if there really is very much hum, check your pick-ups.
