This will never be on GSN because Gene didn't want this seen anywhere again when he was around. And, when you mean by Richard Kline(that produced this), is that the same one that was on 3's Company?
@jhshifris No, the producer of this show was Richard S. Kline, a longtime friend of Jack Barry and producer for Jack Barry Productions and the revived Barry & Enright Productions. After Jack Barry passed away, Kline and other staffers did not like the direction Dan Enright was taking the company and the former Barry shows. (After Barry died, questions on "The Joker's Wild" had been dumbed down considerably as Enright was pushing for bigger prizes and ratings much as he did with "Twenty One.")
I blame this show's failure solely on its director. Had Richard Kline decide to play off the wacky stunts & let Gene do his thing, rather that try to make the show serious, I think this could've been more sucessful.
Besides, how could you have a serious show when you have Michael Jackson impersonators and styrofoam swamps?!
BenJabituya was close; this was a Kline & Friends production; I would consider K&F to be a "spin-off" company from B&E, since Richard S. Kline and other staffers worked for B&E previously.
I wiki'ed for info on Merv Rettenmund, and this is what I found out. Ready, baseball fans? Merv Rettenumd started playing baseball for the Baltimore Orioles from 1968-73, Cincinnati Reds from 1974-75, San Diego Padres from 1976-77 and the California Angels from 1978-80. Merv has been in 4 World Series matches from '69, '70, '71, and '75. He also has been in 5 AL Championship matches in '69, '70, '71, '73 and '79. (Continued)
He also has been in one NL championship match in '75. In 13 seasons he played in 1,023 Games and had 2,555 At Bats, 393 Runs, 693 Hits, 114 Doubles, 16 Triples, 66 Home Runs, 329 RBI, 68 Stolen Bases, 445 Walks, .271 Batting Average, .381 On-base percentage, .406 Slugging Percentage, 1,037 Total Bases, 36 Sacrifice Hits, 20 Sacrifice Flies and 15 Intentional Walks.
He helped the Orioles win the 1969 and 1971 American League Pennant, 1970 World Series and 1973 AL Eastern Division, the Reds win the 1975 World Series and the Angels win the 1979 AL Western Division. Now you know what you need to know about this Flint, Michigan pro baseball player/coach on BtB.

I Want You To post another episode of break the bank Or I Will Harass You With Coments Untill You Do What I Told You Before It Was Too Late In The First Place!
I enjoyed watching Break The Bank and it would be nice if Narzo would put another episode of Break the Bank 1985 on YouTube. Also, I enjoyed watching Break the Bank 1985 as well.
I know what You did Narzo! You posted the only episode when Ron And Gale Won Over $23,000 On their Second Day As champions! When Are You going To post another Episode of Break The Bank? My Bet Is he Will say: NEVER!
Actually it was Ron and Gale's third day as champions. They were champions for four days, but were defeated on their fifth day on the show (episode 6, information from which appears in the Encyclopedia of Game Shows).
During the first half of the run, couples were playing for seconds that will use for the prize vault, but during the rest of the run, couples were playing for points and a new format was introduced then.
Well yes,but no. This looks like the krypton factor, password plus/super password, kidnapped, body language, and Now You see it game show. since 1985 Fun house diden't air until 1988. (after the unairedp pilot that is.)
I didn't know that Gene also hosted this when he was around but he was not known for hosting this. But why did he have to host this anyway? That's like having Marc Summers host Love Connection.
I remembered that show. I was shown on WJBK channel 2 at 9:30 am and I missed the seconds format since the format had changed during my Christmas Vacation in 1985. The lady in the one stunt was like "Body Language" with Tom Kennedy which was also shown on WJBK before Break the Bank at 9 am. I got to see the original host Gene Rayburn again on TV still alive in 1998 on Jenny Jones. He died a year later. Also I have the promo of it on one of the VHS tapes and never erased ever since.
Gene Rayburn didn't fit well with that show...compared to this dud, he haven't given away merchandise prizes to winning players (only cash) during his lengthy tenure on "The Match Game".
The "word reveal" sound effect and the "seconds added" sound effect is from Strike It Rich.

@jhshifris Kline then left Barry & Enright with most of the Barry staff to form his own company, Kline & Friends.

This could have been a great show had they never had Gene, or even better, have Gene do his thing a bit.
Hondo20132 2 years ago
Well personally, I like the Joe Farago version than Rayburn's.
I liked it when it was serious.
Gene was made for Match Game, but not for this.
