see, i didnt collect her vinyl. this is why i havent heard any of these other remixes from her music box era like the anytime you need a friend boriqua tribe mix. i just collected the cassettes and cds
Did anyone notice the very beginning intro before it really gets to the melody...and then the little throughout the song is the exact same hook as Jennifer Lopez's "I'm Real". I believe it's originally that Japanese Firecracker sample that Mariah also initially used to make her single Loverboy but had to trash it after it leaked and that bia JLo used it instead!!! Kinda craziie...
I'm not sure if this song was exactly the original album version recorded, but I have heard it definitely resembled a hard beat and a more "hip hop" sreet style vibe and of course Tommy had to supress anything midly urban musically with her back in the day...so like many of her songs, it was changed to what it is today. (I actually prefer the version on her album anyway to this.)
the music sorta sounds like "Eric B. Is President - Eric B. & Rakim" which is a song mariah quoted as one of her all time favs

I'm glad she re-recorded it.

I wonder if this song was closer to the original version, if not the original, and then it was changed to sound a little less "street."

@chrisanthemum7 Yes, this is one of the versions from the original mixing sessions indeed.
