Hopkings worked with Coldplay on Viva la Vida and helped establish lots of their instrumental work on a number of songs on the album. The opening to Violet Hill, for example, was another piece that he had a large part in producing.

It is extremely rare for a piece this simple and repetitive not to get boring at some point, especially for us musicians. this piece however, is anything but. first of all, the repeating melody is sublimely beautiful, brilliant in it's simplicity. from the first note, you are drawn in and then the way the piece slowly unfolds and builds is truly masterful. reminded me at times of steve reich. very hypnotic and conveys a feeling that makes you just want to bath in it. truly fucking beautiful!!
