@lamaok You are an asshole to make a comment like that. SO THE GUY DIDN'T KNOW IT WASN'T A DIESEL. So WHAT?? People lik eyou who try to impress people with your pompous false conceits are sickening. You probably drive a 10 yr old Ford
No BMW only puts "Regular" automatic transmissions in all of their cars... The only vehicles they produce with the SMG or "Double Clutch Gear Box" are the "M" models...
Thank you have a nice day MF, and I don't mean my friend...
@ericsanchez2005 An SMG(Sequential Manual Gearbox=Electrohydraulic manual transmission) gearbox is not an double clutch gear box! And there are cars that have SMG transmissions that arent M cars.
@ericsanchez2005 I don't see how that quote makes you think that only M cars have SMG or that SMG gear boxes, like the one in this video, are double clutch. Accept that you're wrong, enough people have told you already...
From what i know all 335i convertables are hardtops too, but it's just cheaper to get the coupe because of that very basic luxury of removing the top.
lt1 has a little more acceleration, much more low end torque (wich is better in traffic and for everyday use) and parts and mods are cheaper... engine and trannsmission is stronger too and last way more years/miles than the BMW
BMW on the other hand is more fuel efficent and has back seats and loose less money if you plan to sell it after some years..
well mine is only a 316 from 1994. 134 hp at the wheels so it's not completely stock. and the previous owner was a friend of mine so i knew how the car was treated. transmission is a expensive part indeed. even though the prices vary it's still a lot of money. clutch is a bit in the mid section but a flywheel isn't that expensive? around 800/1200 euros i think? with older bmw's when you look at the km counter when there is moisture at the back you know its wrong. they messed with it.
Hust bought myself a 330i convert with 40000km. I intend selling it before it reaches 100000 (motorplan expires)....I think its gonna be expensive maintaining it from my own pocket.
if you are able to sell it before the motorplan expires and ride only 50/60k kilometres on it it won't be such expensive to maintain if the car is in a good shape. bmw made and still makes pretty durable and reliable engines.
do not forget bmw began with airplane engines and a malfunction is deadly most of the time.
i think this is one of the reasons bmw makes pretty darn good engines.
335i more confort more resell ability more refined more fuel efficent...
corvette more power cheaper parts more ability to modify the engine and get an insane amount of BHP and TQ more durable over time (even in modified form)
if you have to use it every day get the 335 if you need a saturday driver for fun get the corvette..
people have a close look at the rev dial when he moves the paddle shift....it still operates as a auto..look at the 2nd..especially the 3rd the gear changes long after his pressed..
he was probably stepping on the pedal alllll the way down. when you do that the engine operates as auto, no matter how many times you try shift. at least thats the case for my car
Remember, its peak horsepower is at 5800rpm. It is typical for most turbocharged cars to have a power peak well before the redline. So, he really was right on the money with his shifting.
the shame is YOU assuming that just because the tach shows 7 grand, you have to shift there...never mind that peak power is made well before that in these turbocharged endgines....shame, shame, shame

way more miles? i have 260.000 km on this engine and a friend of mine has 420.000 km on his. (both petrol of course)
bmw is very durable and very easy to maintain.
comfort speed luxury cheap parts cheap repairs
and best off all a whole lot of driving fun.
bmw is the best.
patrickroks 2 years ago
you got lucky then.. I got a bmw 330d with 268.,000 km (wich the dealer tryed to sell me for a 100.000km car)..
I realized the "trick" Because the transmission was failing, and I was able to have my money back...
as for "cheap repairs" the transmission for that car was 6000 euros (not to mention the clutch and the flywheel wich were also failing)
that's why I decied to bring it back and have my money refunded..
p.s. a corvette complete transmission is no more than 3500 euros ..
mosquiton001 2 years ago

N00b question: The gear changes a fraction of a second after he pushes the paddle. Is this normal on all paddle-shift gearboxes?

totally normal. Drove an M5 and it behaves the same... it's like a Play Station LOL
diegomayan 2 years ago
autos are not all the same in shitf speeds..
audi's S-gear /DSG are almost "instant" in gear changes when shifted manually..
this one in the video has a longer delay probably because it's not an automated clutch like S-tronic but has a torque converter...
btw even if the DSG is faster (I have one) I still prefer the classic automatic wich is more reliable in time and if you mod the car..

What's the whining sound that seems to carry on beyond the revs? Is that a cooling fan? Seems too low rpm for a turbo.
TheFerruccio 3 years ago
It is the turbo. The 335i has two. A small one for low rpm and a bigger one for high rpm so that there is no lag.
chivasrocks 3 years ago
That's sweet; never knew that turbos could make a sound quite like that. I love that odd sound.

persempre91 3 years ago
PS für den Stammtisch, Drehmoment für die Bahn...
den Motor voll auszudrehen hat nicht immer Vorteile, auch bei Benzinern kommt man öfters schneller vorran, wenn man kurz vorm Begrenzer schaltet.
