i have a compaq CQ5600Y with a amd athlon II 170u processor, all stock computer. narra5 MB. says it will take AM2+ and AM3 CPU chipsets. will a AMD athlon II X4 640 Propus work on my setup? 95W TDP. will there be any bios issues? ram and 4-500 watt PSU will be upgraded too. ill subscribe if ur nice enough to lend me some advice :D
@demonsparkx since no one offered you advice.. am2+ sockets will take am3 but you may need to update the bios to recognize the new chip. it'll run it but you may need the bios update. the board is limited to am2+ and am3 cpus at 2000 m/t at 95 tdp. you won't need to up the ram or anything else physically. i would get a cheap am3+ board and some ddr3 if i was you. it'll upgrade the chipsets and run the quad chip with the intended bus. it'll cost more but will be worth it.
@blueovalfan23 i figured out a few things since that comment, turns out the company "pegatron" that makes the narra5 board i have, doesnt update the bios, so itll only and automatically support cpu's that were out at the time as the current one, may 11 2010 i belive it is, the one im getting is a athlon 640 x4, also released the same day as my current cpu. and yes, i do plan on getting a more up to date board that uses DDR3,but as for now, i just spent about 300 on a few --->
@blueovalfan23 parts, the cpu, a nice case, and a decent mid grade gpu. i figured i might as well use as many parts i have now already ie: MB and psu, untill i can afford to buy the rest of parts to further my build. it took me a while to actually get some legit info/ answers since HP themselves give half assed info on there own products. thanks for the advice though, always well appreciated.
@demonsparkx manufactures suck with the limited info they offer some times. they don't want you to customize when they can sell you a new tower it seems. i've been where you are to. i ran the same old board till this time last year with ddr and an agp slot. the cool thing is you can get a better board later and some ddr3 when you take the notion. maybe even a x6 core or fx chip if they every fix them to be what they could have been.
@blueovalfan23 oh yeah man exactly, manufactures just want you to buy a newer computer from them, insted off upgrading, or better yet IE: build a custom pc, which in the long run for the money will give you the best performance. ive seen a few nice gigabyte MB's that support pciE-16 and up to 8gb ddr3 and amd chipsets for mid $50 range, im thinking would suit me quite well, for my mid gaming compatibility, and video processing
@demonsparkx i like walking through walmart and laughing at the prices on machines that couldn't touch mine and knowing what i put in it. i didn't get an o/s or monitor but it was worth it. a couple things to watch, on cheaper boards they sometimes have a limited h/t and tdp rating. if you have the time to wait, you can find good deals on ddr3, often 8 gb kits for 30-40 after a rebate. just wondering, what gpu/video card did ya get?
I have a Presario CQ5210F Computer. EVERYTHING is removable. You can remove the motherboard, replace the CPU, RAM, HDD, even add another optical drive. I have replaced the 250W Power supply with a 585W Orion, and installed a GIGABYTE GTX 550 Ti Graphics card (That's a GeForce). Next I am installing a Phenom II x4 3.2Ghz Deneb processor. (It is the best 95w processor I could find, esp. for the price)
@ferdaws2000 i doubt it. that t3400 is a 478 socket chip. the mobile i series intels are not going to fit. sorry.. those dual cores aren't to bad for normal use though.
@bart3tears Yes you can fit a video card in this computer. A lot of these slims will run LOW PROFILE graphics cards. I put a 9600GT in a clients computer once. It was a bery thin card
@MChief6596 not to troll ya but a new machine. you'd at least need a video card. i wouldn't try a high end card on that rig as it is. the cpu is going to bottleneck it. i've seen 8800 and 9800 nvidias running it and i know for a fact that the ati 5670 will run it. just try google and know that chip isn't going to allow you to max the settings and run the high end stuff.

@Leecraze Im sorry it cant, Your Mother seems to only take Pentium 4 and Celeron CPU's. It seems that the socket is 478. @Elchuyboricua The E6700 wont let you down with gaming performance ! Check out newegg and look at the E6700 3.2ghz for 84.99 you should be good to go with that cpu!
@Elchuyboricua i am getting a Intel Pentium E5700 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80571E5700 it is a dual core it runs great i currently got a celeron 1.80 ghz and it is crappy on win7 so im upgrading i use newegg.ca they are great for stuff also try tigerdirect.ca great online retailers that got the best goods
@Leecraze You will need to see on the net if the motherboard is compatible with it or it will burn the cpu or damage it. WARNING: BE EXTREMELY CAREFULL BECAUS IF IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE IT MAY KILL YOUR MOTHERBOARD.
@gentveselaj The paste thing, Is whats called thermal paste, Is what it does is makes contact between the processor and the heatsink. This way the heat disapates properly for cooling purposes. Anyway thats what it does. IF you do not past you will lapp. That usually happens when you sand down the cpu in order to reveal the copper. It makes better contact. So use CPU past such as Artic SIlver 5.
im having a problem I'm trying to put a Pentium D 950 inside a 775 socket mb and it's telling me "System Haulted! incompatable processor deteacted" when the p4 had the same specs & pins
@xxdeathx it's not compatible with your chipset ^^ you need to check for the cpu support from your motherboard website if your CPU isn't list in that one it's couldn't work sorry for my eng i'm Thai ^^
@jole1100 yea but onlu way to is to get a new motherboard the socket is built into the motherboard in other words its part of the motherboard like a intergrated gpu and pci slots and dimm slots and sata plugs
@danzky2426 buy a new motherboard and cpu and gpu and ram u have everything else shouldnt cost u anymore then $400 for all 4 depending what you want outta your computer
Hi, I'm going to upgrade my cpu desktop computer and according to the motherboard spec. the maximun approved processors is: Athlon xp 3200 + barton processor (2.20 Ghz, 400MHZ) . Do I need to change the BIOS configuration? Please help me, thank you.
@senadobrasil changing bios dosent help with being able to change to a different cpu then the ones you say your motherboard can handle you want a cpu better then them 2 u have to buy a new motherboard i mean they arnt expensive im building one and i have the latest motherboard for intel motherboards i know ur amd but same works for amd and mine is ready for the nxt processors after the sandy bridge processors amd it only is costing $149 for the motherboard
when i put the cpu inside, i accidently shake it to find out if it fits properly. is that okay? or does that damage the gold plate underneath? thank you
i think that everything is good except the processor so i want to get a better one but i dont know which processor to buy. can you please tell me what to upgrade it to. I would like to upgrade it to at least i5 processor.
help! i have the same exact dell pc and i changed my proccesor and when i turn my pc on a yellow light shoes (instead of blue) and the fan blows hard (like as soon as you turn on ur pc but stays like that) and pc wont start but just blow the fan hard and show a yellow light and idk what to do? got an idea?
@coollabby00 something other then the intel sockets aka 1366,1155 etc it depends on how old your computer is if its a old computer like early 2000 or 1990s then its just the basic socket if its between 2010 n now then its a new one just have to check amd website and look up your processor to see what yours is
@chicagochris1988 dude he said a i7 2600k thats a 1155 socket ur thinking of a i7 960/980 not tryin be smart just saying incase any noobs see what you wrote and get the wrong idea
@chicagochris1988 I'm considering throwing in one of those dirt cheap Athlon64 3200+ OEMs they're selling on ebay in an old Sempron 3000+ (1,8) Gigabyte rig from Packard Bell. Any reason why this monster wouldn't live? My friend suggested the Athlon64 OEMs could have compatibility issues (something about bios).
@chicagochris1988 He needs an LGA 1155 socket motherboard, a new heatsink, DDR3 memory (At least 2x2GB), and a new PSU for an 8pin setup instead of a 4 pin.
@kaminetaki hey i wanna change my processor so now i have a AMD Sempron(tm) processor 2600+ 1.60 Ghz so i wanna to change into Intel celeron(tm) 2.4 GHz !! can i change it ?? pls reply
@MrTonii95 You can't. You need to buy a whole new motherboard because your current motherboard is a AMD socket type. You want to buy a LGA 1155 socket motherboard, new heatsink, etc. Just save up and buy a new custom build PC.
@MrTonii95 You must check if the new CPU fits in the slot of your motherboard. I changed to i7 but also changed my motherboard in order for the cpu to fit in.
I did this to my old Dell Optiplex 170L(The spec before that was very gay),the motherboard now support a AGP(Yes,before that there is no AGP,Just a Intel Extreme Graphics 2 with 96MB)With 2GB RAM,NVIDIA GeForce 6800XT with 256 DDR2,120GB HDD....
@msaberton Yes,I replace my motherboard with MSi N1996.(LGA 775 ).But Before you switch it,At the CPu socket(The placement for the heatsink)Remove it and there will be a bolt underneath the socket placement(more like under the motherboard)Remove that also and you can place any kind of motherboard(DONT EVER,EVER USE A XL-ATX or ATX motherboard,They wont fit in it.)
I did a search for "how to upgrade CPU" and randomly chose this video -- turns out I am also upgrading a Dell 530s!!!! Thanks!! It went perfectly. I removed a Celeron 420 and installed a Core 2 Duo E8400.
I have a a Athlon(tm) Processor 2650e, *the sticker on outside my computer has a 64 on it but my computer is a 32-bit. I want to get PNY - NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card but in the description it says 2 proccessors so does that mean that it has 2 proccessors or needs 2 processors to run? I would be installiing it on an Emachine 1300G. Hope you can help, I have no idea about computers
@chicagochris1988 I have a gateway 838gm and my mother board supports an intel pentium 4. It has a 775 LGA socket. I want to upgrade to a intel pentium dual core 3ghz. You think it'll work?
i got a gateway dont know what kind i baught it off craigslist but its a 2.0 and my xbox died and its processor is a 3.2 would i be able to swap them?

hi chris, do you remember the popular chicago based award winning comedy called kenan and kel, it truly bridged the cultural boundaries between various races...do you see them around town still or are they in hollywood?
Let me be straight..i could tell within 10 seconds of your video you know 1000% more about computers than me, anyhow, I have a 10 year OLD philips desktop pc, and I am broke. the ram is 768 (only because i upgraded it a few months ago- from "253"after reading a "how to" on youtube)and i read that the bare minimum i should have is about 2gb. my processing speed is 1.51ghz... any tips on how to get my computer a little faster? i could spend about £50..on it! any advice is great :)
i have a dell latitude D620, would it be possible to upgrade from a intel core duo 1.66GHz to an intel core 2 duo 2.40GHz and its 479 socket for core duo 1,66
I have a dell xps420 quad core Q9450 2.66 GHz cpu factory, can I upgrade it myself to the i7? Im new at this, so grealy appreciate any help, thanks. I upgraded the video card myself, but the cpu seem more difficult.
(continued) of the case's fan or to add a new somehow. The PSU shall support the new CPU's wattage, this is probably ok, while the graphics card is not so a powerful one. I say this, because the seeing PSU is 120 Watts only. These kind of machines use to have 2 independent PSUs sometime, I have seen this in an IBM. So examining this subject is a must, and also be informed of how many watts our new CPU consumers. So I hope for a more detailed video.
(continued) and then pull up the cooler. Also, removing the fan's plug in is missing. If the new CPU is of a much higher speed, the user may concern to change the CPU fan to a stronger one, or to change the cooler. If so, he needs a new serious cooler, and while the case is small, this cooler must be large and stocky type (see some Scythe models). 2 other points to which the video doesn't emphasize are the case cooling and the PSU. If the new CPU is much stronger, you have to consider the change
To my opinion the video is incomplete. You should give emphasis to the motherboard model (watch the BIOS screen before), write down the info, and search for what kind of CPUs and speeds this mobo supports. Then look for the right CPU to buy. During the change phase you didn't warn the user to look up the pin1 and to put the CPU correctly in order not to break it. You removed the CPU cooler by just pull it up? This is not right while you had to turn (or push) the 4 cooler's plastic screws and the

@Leecraze You will need to see on the net if the motherboard is compatible with it or it will burn the cpu or damage it. WARNING: BE EXTREMELY CAREFULL BECAUS IF IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE IT MAY KILL YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

dude whats this paste thing
gentveselaj 3 months ago
@gentveselaj The paste thing, Is whats called thermal paste, Is what it does is makes contact between the processor and the heatsink. This way the heat disapates properly for cooling purposes. Anyway thats what it does. IF you do not past you will lapp. That usually happens when you sand down the cpu in order to reveal the copper. It makes better contact. So use CPU past such as Artic SIlver 5.

@kaminetaki your really need socket 1155 for i7 2600K, its a second gen. i7's
in other words you need you most likely need to replase most of your system to get to i7 2nd gen.

@kaminetaki no because i7 has different socket and core 2 quad has lga 775 socket :)

@MrTonii95 You can't. You need to buy a whole new motherboard because your current motherboard is a AMD socket type. You want to buy a LGA 1155 socket motherboard, new heatsink, etc. Just save up and buy a new custom build PC.

msaberton 8 months ago
@msaberton Yes,I replace my motherboard with MSi N1996.(LGA 775 ).But Before you switch it,At the CPu socket(The placement for the heatsink)Remove it and there will be a bolt underneath the socket placement(more like under the motherboard)Remove that also and you can place any kind of motherboard(DONT EVER,EVER USE A XL-ATX or ATX motherboard,They wont fit in it.)

If the new CPU is much stronger, you have to consider the change
hrbear 1 year ago
To my opinion the video is incomplete. You should give emphasis to the motherboard model (watch the BIOS screen before), write down the info, and search for what kind of CPUs and speeds this mobo supports. Then look for the right CPU to buy. During the change phase you didn't warn the user to look up the pin1 and to put the CPU correctly in order not to break it. You removed the CPU cooler by just pull it up? This is not right while you had to turn (or push) the 4 cooler's plastic screws and the
