  • I love this mans music , it speaks to me of the tragedy of his people, many of whom are lost in the imposed and introduced culture of WHITE AUSTRALIA . It evokes memories of my trip to Alice and Uluru and what I saw and experienced there with the people of The Caterpillar Dreaming .

  • Beeeauuutiful !!!!!!

  • fucking nigger faggot

  • @themenaceanish calm down menace, have yourself some warm milk and get to bed.

  • How amazingly stunning to hear the language if his country. Sadly most Aboriginal Language groups have been lost forever. We need to keep alive the remaining Languages.

no Noise, no Amplification, no Electronics. Just perfect pitch and acoustics - A Beautiful Voice!

  • @martythetickler Well said.

  • beautiful and it doesn't even matter that i can't understand what he's saying

  • Let me just say that this proves that blacks and whites can work and live together in peace...

  • It made me cry though i havent listened to it yet :P

  • Great song!, not sure but I think its something to do with a rainbow spirit to do with aboriginal Australian folklore/religion and him being carried by it.

  • Unfuckingreal....this man has something amazing. Cannot understand a word that he is saying, yet his words move me. It is more than talent....there is heart in his music. More power t'ya Gurrumul

  • Truly amazing! His music gives you goosebumps even if u have no idea what he is singing about. That is something only a true artist can do, keep it up mate, can't wait to go to your show in Melbourne next week

  • The whole album "Gurrumul" is a masterpiece. As Molly would say: do yourself a favour -- buy it! Buy it now. ;) Everyone should have this in their collection. And when you listen to it for the first time, and come to the end, you'll put it right back to track one and listen to it again. At least three times. A beautiful, ethereal master work from a master craftsman. My ears thank you Mr Yunupingu, and so does my soul.

  • Simply amazing, this song blows me away every time, he is an excellent artist, even more so since being blind from birth he's had to learn to play the guitar by feel and sound alone, truly remarkable skill 8)

  • Jest wielki - wielkie brawa:)

  • I love this music, and one thing I didn't know was that he blind since birth.

  • beautiful

  • You could lay me to rest with this song and I would be content in the after life forever.

  • Ooho Gary Madine!

  • i think this is the only person in music who hasnt sold his soul to the devil..!

    yet..

  • @SovereignBeing, At least the devil would have good taste if he bought it..!

  • @SovereignBeing I think Gurrumul soul is his own...now and forever...

  • @gypsybaby71 - i truly hope you are right there hun..!

  • @SovereignBeing but then he sings at the ARIAs.

  • i met geoffrey on several occasions lol... sitting at his uncles place in parap :) havin a beer.. good fella... he has the voice of an angel

  • This is a song that even if u dont understand the words it is still beautiful. It is a song that needs no explaination it just starts and completes it self.

  • This is a song that even if u dont understand the words it is still beautiful. It is a song that needs no explaination it just starts and completes it self.

  • Ich Liebe diese Musik!

  • Why is there a "thumps down"-option on Gurumul-videos? And how come some guys used it??

  • too bad He could'nt be à the montreal jazz festival this year 2010

you had to cancel I wonder why?

hope to hear you next year there

  • narrandyja yothu djarrimirri

  • @grinslop close... ngarranydja yothu djarimirri

  • God bless you geoffrey amazing voice and talent

  • Anyone who has anything bad to say about this music is a sad loser. This is without a doubt some of the best music the world has been blessed with in a long time. This is what we are missing. I want this guy to sing at my wedding. Gurrumul, please sing at my wedding?! lol i read his lyrics as well and they are who he is. Beautiful.

  • This is fucking awkward... I have no idea what he's saying and yet this song moves me.

  • @giovanni9107 listen to Bapa, a song about losing one's father.

  • this is so beautiful, that even though i don't understand what he's saying, it made me cry.

  • @dianahkiss me too!

  • I have only just recently completed the link to my heritage of the 'Tasmanian Aborigines' and am sooooo proud to see this language being sung by a fellow aboriginal. It's 'SPIRIT' like his that is needed to help keep our culture alive... way to go Geoffrey....... Much PEACE and RESPECT to you my friend.

  • @AidanWi

It takes one to spot one!!! POOF!!

Just cause he's black don't mean he's gay!! Racist Bastard!!

  • Yes! Great!

  • omg love him. his voice just goes directly into your heart...

  • One should avoid mixing politics and music, but I can't help myself. Geoffrey sings in one of the few remaining Australian Aboriginal Languages. The Northern Territory government is applying a "four hours English only policy"- the first four hours of learning each schoolday has to be in English. Where I live they have effectivelly killed a once glorious bilingual programme (Warlpiri/English).

    ¡Que atrozidad!

  • c'est juste magnifique

  • A well dealt man indeed

For a well meant man in need!!

  • Exactly what is it that he needs! He has his culture & love of music!

  • @AidanWi i'll let you fly your own kite.

  • This is wonderful! This is why I love youtube.... before youtube I never would have had the chance to discover this beautiful music.

  • @TerhiTheFinn totally agree...yt is an amazing reference point, ive discovered so much truly great music on yt...and gurrumul is deffo an amazing didcovery!!

  • Love that voice ...

  • I was fortunate enough to be at dreaming festival in 2008. I was sitting at a camp fire with a friend, having a joint. escorted and sat on a log beside me was this man himself. he was given a guitar; and proceeded to play for just 6 people, 6 songs. While is eldest son, translated the songs during their progression. Very very moving.

  • @RainDub you are one very lucky individual...man i bet that was magical?? the weed and the music...he has such an amazing style of playing....but his voice is something else...pure soul cleansing music!!

  • une musique venue d AUSTRALIE merci

  • i love his music and as aftonwaters said it is pure sleep music, for me this and einaudi...heaven sent music!! dont get me wrong but i dont like to see people bring his blindness in to the discussion...cos i feel blind or not, young or old etc etc this is talent so what has disabillity or age got to do with it??? i mention age cos you see lots of very talented young people on yt...and people comment "your very good especially for your age"??? its just hard work and talent...

  • Very happy that he was in Switzerland on the 26th October 2009 in Volkshaus Zürich on the stage and loved all of his songs.Bought his CD last year! Still keep hearing all his beautiful songs.God Bless You Geoffrey Gurrumul!

  • the reason y i love this guy:

    1. hes songs own

    2. hes damn blind from hes birth..he never saw light or anything..he doesn't even really know how human look or how hes guitar looks like..this man owns!

    :p lol

  • @midasrode Love does not do reason/s.

  • Everything about his album is exquisite.

I bought it when it was first released ... we play it as sleep music at our childcare centre, soft, soothing and gives the children an opportunity to really listen to the pieces as a whole during their quiet time. I wish there were more Australian musicians who sang contemporary music in their language, so as to make their languages come alive for us all. Thank you Gurrumul!

  • @AftonWaters love his music and love the fact your exposing children to such beautiful music!! 5 stars to you.

    5 star post.

  • Absolutely beautiful.!!! Love it.!!!

The kinda music that makes you wanna cry..

  • i was there ! Gorgeous song, uncredible man. X

  • love it

  • Yes!!!

  • absolutely awesome singer songwriter... i am proud to be australian! thanks so much gurrumul.

  • merci a Taratata. Fantastique personnage et voix unique. Australiens, preservez votre Luke Kelly!

  • Truly an amazing talent and a true national treasure! Makes you feel proud that something this beautiful can come from your own country. Stunning.

    5 stars...

  • would be nice to see the australian government help the indigenous people..

but then again most white aussies are racist fucks

  • I think you would find most white Australians would be huge fans of Gurrumul.

He is an exemplary indigenous Australian.

  • what would you effing know dipsh!it!

  • stfu bitch face

  • It's wonderful to see comments from abroad here from people who appreciate the beauty and dignity of Gurrumul Yunupingu's music.

He has done much in Australia to bridge the very big gap between Indigenous and white Australia. Racism, and our maltreatment of indigenous people reamins our most enduring shame.

Gurrumul is a beautiful man with a message that transcends language and skin colour.

  • This guy is amazing.

  • His music takes me to beautiful places of social harmony and brotherly love.

  • Blind and lefthanded... Respect

@Fabelija: he plays with a lefty guitar, pas avec 'une guitare droitier' ;)

  • Actually he plays on a right handed guitar turned upside down - the difference being the strings are 'backwards' (highest pitched string at the top) easiest way to spot it is that the scratch plate is above the strings.....

Beautiful sound whichever way you look at it tho :)

  • @Fabelija

    - Yes it will be very heart-warming to see the whole performance of them together. I can't yet imagine the beauty of the it.

  • Such a beautiful voice, - amazing!

    Magic Gurrumul

  • nice nice,,,

  • strange and wonderful ! is good very good synx Mr Gurrumul.

    love it.....

  • Great hearing the vernacular getting an airing.

The taxi bloke is a pathetic excuse for a man, but sadly not atypical for Darwin, northern Qld, and WA.

  • Just - sublime...

  • Exactly!!!!

  • Hermosa, cautivante voz.....

  • this blows me away

  • yes,me too,

    Sound of wonderfull

  • lets talk about the rare talent of Gurrumul...such a special gift.

  • Ok. Then I can only hope that one day he'll be sorry about his ways. Maybe like you say, before dying. BTW I heard about Gurrumul before, but never really pay attention to his music, now I'm a new fan. He's just great. I'm also listening to The Black Arm Band, very good as well. Cheers from NYC.

  • How mean, I said I was sorry... I even bought his CDs & gave sum of them to sum Aboriginal kids at Edmondton (Cairns) Primary skool. I even stopped driving cabs and living in Darwin... everyone deserves a 2nd chance & change in life :((((

  • Beautiful song, brought a tear to my eye. And I never admit to that.

  • All a person would have to do is phone

Darwin Radio Taxis, and ask for a redneck racist called Bruce, and destination Nightcliff or Casuarina via Fanny Bay.

Course every one wants to stop to look at the view, this moron is so in love with himself he wouldn't see it coming.

Iy goes wothout saying that I in no way do I condone violence in any form :))

(even if it is bloody welll deserved!)

  • The whole album is as beautiful as this song.

  • Emotions in motion man ...so beautiful.

  • typical kiwi lol

  • Dog!

  • gemkilt: You are stupid dude. lol You are kidding, right? Sounds like a joke...lol At least you feel bad about it...Make a donation for a hospital for blind people or something like that, that'll make you feel better...or even better support a poor blind kid in Australia from the "Save the Children" program.

  • KLASSE!

  • wauw!!!!!

    prachtig

    beautiful song

  • Beautiful concert at Perth Concert Hall last night. The production with the screens giving the lyrics made it even better. Thank you - it was really magical.

  • Absolutely Beautiful!!

  • Oneof the greatest talents i've ever heard.

  • one of the most amazing songs i ve ever heard and i m 32........

    MINDBLOWING

  • This is mindblowing.

Nothing more can or must be said.

  • Gurrumul....we love you!!!.....may you be blessed whereever you go!....you have the talent to bring this world closer together!!!....Big Hug from us to YOU

  • unfortunatly australia is the most racist country on earth. im a australian and im aahamed to be called a aussie. its like being in nazi germany. i am so ashamed of my countries attitude towards the countries founders. and im the sure the rest of the world are ashamed of us aswell. wake up australia, the aboriginal people are equals, this man has the voice from heaven, . please leave all your biggots at the door. racism is sick, so wake up australia

  • Yes, how I agree with you, when will people realise that we are all one being in the universe, that we all share the planet and are part of one another. Good for you for speaking out against racism. Sonja

  • look, there is no doubt that australia has some serious problems when it comes to racial divides; but likening it to being in nazi germany is so far from the truth that it is almost a joke. It seems to be a lack of interest on the peoples side rather than a malicious hatred for the aboriginal population. The people who are genuinely bigoted toward different races are generally the lowest rungs of society, not our iron fisted dictator.

  • there's no nazi germany anymore^^ some of the germans are nazis but most of the germans are not ^-^

so Im not a nazi nd im german ^^

just wanted to say this ^-^

    btw Gurrumul is awesome

he has a god given talend even though i don't believe in god i have to admit it^^

  • Thanks for your support for acceptance and your acknowledgement of the challenges we have just to get to the starting line. Gurrumul makes my heart sing.... I believe in the healing vibrations of music, as I am a singer with Madjitil Moorna, but Gurrumul surpasses us all.

  • Is Madjitil Moorna the mob of wadjelas and noongars who do aboriginal songs. I heard a CD recently of a group like that and they were great.

  • Yes, That's us... We are on here, on MySpace etc... If you Google us you will find our website for more info. We are always looking for more Aboriginal singers. We focus on healing through music. My neice Della Rae Morrison & Jesse Lloyd got us started. They have their own group called Djiva, They also created "Chocolate Martini" Which is now airing on NITV. I'm Auntie Karl Mourach, and just love this passion we share.

  • He´d deserve more then 5 Stars! Just beautiful! Wunderschön =0)

  • wundervolle lieder!!!

  • truly beautiful

  • txxxxxx

  • Oh! Absolutely haunting...

  • amazing song, amazing performance .

  • Wish I knew what he was saying. excellent song

  • Djarimirri Translation:

I was carried, by mother Wititj

    I am, a Rainbow child m..m

I am a Rainbow child, with a Rainbow carried by Wititj, with a Rainbow.

Emerged from there, from the water lilies

Gudjuk emerged, from the fresh water Garrimala m..m Dhupula.

I am a Rainbow child, with a Rainbow carried by Wititj, with a Rainbow, a child of the Rainbow.

In the 1950's my dad looked around towards Muwalangillili, Yanayanayu Wurrumbayu Malpitjinuyu (Pt Bradshaw) .

  • Djamirri Translation (Last Verse):

I am a Rainbow child, with a Rainbow

    carried by Wititj, with Rainbow.

I am Maralitja Dhar'yuna with my ancestors.

I am a child conceived and carried by Wititj

    a rainbow child m..m, with a Rainbow m..m m..m with a Rainbow.

**Wititj is the Ancestor Rainbow Python**

  • If you buy his album the words are there in English
