The problem is poverty and inequality. If children come from poor homes, they are more likely to have problems learning. That has been documented. Until we address the soaring inequality between the rich and the poor, and the problems that plague inner city, poor neighborhoods, they can throw all of the money they want at schools and it won't make one bit of difference.

Nice of MSNBC show actually give Joanne a chance to share her views. The host was considerate although it was crazy what he said at the end about everyone agreeing that we would be happy if our kids grew up to be as rich as Bill Gates. How shallow have we become?

The road to hell is paved w good intentions.

If they have good intentions, but want to run schools like a business, their intentions are moot. The business model is ALL about bottom line, not students. So whether or not they **want** "to "see school systems faulter" doesn't matter. It WILL happen cuz everything comes after the bottom line, including students.
