I think he's brilliant, but I honestly think that he might be a bit touched. Watching him rock back and forth in this isn't the first time that Sufjan's actions during a performance have made me think that he might be a bit...weird. I'm by no means saying that's a bad thing, but whenever he sings he seems very distance, like he's so a part of the music that he isn't aware of those around him. I very rarely see him make eye contact with the crowd or smile or anything... Idk, maybe it's just me...
He is really distant. A couple of my friends and I went up and started talking to him. I understand that he had places to go and he didn't want to deal with a large crowd, but he was still really.. not that friendly. He also never really looks like he's into his music. I mean he plays it well and all, but sometimes I feel like there isn't really any emotion in there.
He's an introvert. It's that simple. When I saw him in August 2005, he actually started crying while playing Romulus as an encore. If he ever seems distant, it's probably because he wants to remain composed on stage.
Yes, he doesn't seem to adapt much the things around him. But i think i return his non concern for these aspects, whether conscious or not, frees a lot of energy for great music :)
...How is him rocking back and forth to his music weird? I think he's used to doing it because he usually does that to make his wings flap :p
He does seem distant and shy though and that's no secret. I think he's uncomfortable with all the hype and critical acclaim he's always received. He's just a shy midwest boy; but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel connected to his music, ya know?
I'm really sorry, but I didn't have much memory on my camera. I decided to take a bunch of shorter videos instead of a couple longer ones. But I think I might have one or two full length ones
He seems eccentric, but his writing (essays, reviews) and his music give a glimpse of his genius.

j/k. I would kill to be able to sit down and talk to him for a half hour.

I love the fact that he's an introvert. Being one myself, it's nice to know that I have something to live up to.
Also, dang, I wish I could actually compose music instead of just do whatever on guitar.

Blasphemy. Go to the Austin City Limits website and find his interview. He seems very on top of things to me.
