  • stop the world I want to get off

Im sure days gone by were better

  • Just one thing... the pier was lost in a storm in 1978 which also caused exstensive flooding inland. Kings Lynn centre was under about three feet of water and the police were stopping all taffic entering the town. The flood precipitated the barriers one now sees along the quay side buildings and further facing on to the river.

  • Just watched your film on the Hunstanton line. Very professionally done and congrats to all concerned. I used the lines to Hunstanton and Dereham during their last months of operation as I was based at RAF Marham near Kings Lynn between 67 and 71. 5 stars.

  • great film not sure why anyone would press the dislike button (takes allsorts i spose )

  • Spent many happy Sunday's in Hun'ston during my time at RAF Marham. Even married a local lass from Lynn !!!!!! Must go back and revisit the place. Thanks for the video guys, very informative.

  • Well done lad's great way to tie current video with historical footage. Those daft beggars did so many branch lines that should have been kept.

  • Great video, well put together. I wouldn't like to pay your MCPS bill though. :-) And ask your cameraman to take the pans at a quarter of that speed. Excellent though - very welcome.

  • @OldVideoPro Yeah man, all you have to do is to put all your permissions granted at the end of the film. Anything you haven't got written permission for, write off and request it. If you can't get permission, then remove the bits you can't get permission for, otherwise if you get enough Youtube hits to make any money, the people owning the copyrights will beat your bank account down.

  • Well done, a superb video. you have made me want to come visit...

  • killed of the pier and rember people im only 24 years of age but ive spent a lot time of research and asked local people for there opinoin on the subject and its helps i live local

  • the pier wasnt lost in a flood coz in 1953 there was tidal surge that came down in the north sea and the pier survived it hands down the reason it didnt surivive in 1978 coz the storm reached the east england with same power as it left the west coast of england which is rare most storms that reach the east usaully fizzle out and restart in the north sea to refresh the skiing resorts in northern europe but in the case of 1978 the power of the storm remained and poor maintence

  • only a small part of the branch line survive today and is still used by a deisel trian aka locally as the sand train but i dont know why it comes in kings lynn my guess its turning point. its a pity it seems the victorens were the great engiernerrs of there day and with yet with all ur knoledge and our know how we are still are out done by the victoriens coz most of the tracks still used today are mostly from that erea

  • and also kings lynn used to have have branch lines that went all the way to the docks i should know coz when i was 5 years of age the same day i got told by my nan and mum that hunstanton used trains going there we got stoped by a huge diesel trian going toward the docks and the ground used to tremble beneath me feet if any body knows the area the train used to go pass a local pub called the retreat. any body playing pool in the pub at the time wouldnt be impressed.sadly thou the line pulled

  • hi im 24 years of age and i always knew since i was 5 that trains used to go to hunstanton and it makes me think of what was going through there heads what a stupid idea i would love to have trains going to hunstanton winter or summer theres to much traffic on the roads who ever owned the line is regretting it now thou it would easily make a profit today if the line was still open i mean hunstanton is jammed packed during summer and they could easily cut the trains down during the off seasons

  • Not at all, over the years I have lent out many photos. Its gone to good use so am happy to see it on the net.

  • Type2thrash, you work on the MNR?

small world i may know you. used to be the gate keeper at Kimberley Park and garvestone with Edwin fuller.

  • Great film, little confused on how you got the first photo as I own it. I also live in Heacham and would love to see the railway back, it would be a profitable line with the Holladay seasons and would mean the roads would have less traffic.

  • thank you :)

all photos were taken from various books and internet sources that i could find, im sorry if you would like the photo removed that is no problem at all

  • Really great film

  • Sitting here in sunny Sydney, Australia, I was transported back to my childhood in King's Lynn. I remember playing with my brothers and sisters in the fields behind our house in South Wootton and watching the trains going to Hunstanton.

Thanks so much for the memories, it was a great video.

  • I now live in Memphis Tennessee. I was born in Peterborough and my holidays were all in Hunstanton. I remember so vividly going there by train (steam in those days) Thank you so much for doing this. M.

  • I was also involved in the restoration of MK1 FK 13318

  • Very good video. Thanks for making it. Well Done

  • great video, very interesting, nice to see the great sir john betjamin ready to show his ticket, great supporter of the railways

  • What a great video. Well done

  • Jolly good! Well done!

  • Very nice video mate, very well put together. Such a shame that line closed....would be nice if the talks of reopening it went ahead, infact there is an article on it in the latest Herritage Railway magazine, but personally i can't see it happening, which is a great shame! If i win the lottery i would most certainly have a go though! lol great video 5*

  • So if you win the lottery you'll sponsor a sleeper or a few? I know with the MNR what work is involved with trying to reopen to Hoe, and the Infrastructure is still there! I really hope the Lynn - Hunstanton line reopens (As I live at Heacham) but I'm not very hopeful?

  • im not hopefull at all mate, its upsetting i wasnt alive to see it at all

  • Nor was I, I'm just glad that i'm involved in a project to re-open the line North of Dereham in the MNR. A line I DO Remember closing to Freight all too well!

  • see i'd love to be part of that also, but im at university right now. when i graduate, i want to come down and help somehow n also maybe make a video about its progress :)

  • If you could do a video, which is a Quality as this one and include my "Sponsor a Sleeper Appeal" in it along with some history of the line Dereham - Fakenham that would help alot!!

  • what a fantastic film. full of interesting facts and wonderful footage. Very well researched. i hear on the grape vine (the lynn news) that they are re-opening discussions about re-opening the line....how fantastic would that be??? Lets hope and pray.

once again. congratulations on the great film

  • thanks kris

unfortunatly, theres always been rumours to repopen the line, ever since it closed. it stil hasnt happened. as much as id love it to, i dont think it will ever happen! but if i win the lottery, i will actually give the entire winnings to network rail to rebuild it

  • Great,

I enjoyed in immensely. What was the music at the end?

    Dave

  • finish line - snow patrol

  • I know Terry and Judith Clay and they had already shown me your documentry. Excellent Reasearch! Hopefully we will get the line open one day!

  • I grew up in Kings Lynn i left there a few years ago to live in America...been looking at KL vids here on youtube...yours touched me...great vid and doc THANK YOU

  • didnt know a group was trying open it-wish them luck lol

  • Never to return you say- there is a preservation order on the trackbed so maybe in a few years time

  • Great work, thanks again.

  • A pleasent reminder of times gone by from a lovely part of the country. Well done.

  • Great film! Sad to see The station as a car park, just shows how selfish and narrowed-minded the government was

  • I live in hunstanton at 50 northgate flat 1 come and visit some time!!!!

  • This is just brilliant. Well done ! Fascinating and informative. I would love to know if it is possible to get this on DVD or if there is more about KL. Well done !!!

  • Ace!

    splendid film!

  • Very well edited and produced! Thanks so much. I was stationed at RAF Bircham Newton in 1958 and arrived at Heacham by train. Later, my girl friewnd's dad was signalman/porter/ticket collector at Snettisham station. Great memories of fifty years ago.

  • I moved to Lynn from London 3 years ago and work for Network Rail and have often pondered the Old Kings Lynn to Hunstanton line. Fantastic documentuary, you have a long career ahead of you.

Could you do the Lynn to Sutton Bridge line next, lol.

  • Excellent video like part 1.

  • Very nicely put together! I enjoyed watching this, thank you.

  • There's still some of the old track near Snettisham beach
