  • Glad I watched this video and grateful I haven't killed my family yet. We're new to this chicken raising and have only got 5 eggs so far. I never washed any of them before using them. They looked perfectly clean. I feel like an idiot. I knew they had been sitting in a nest and questioned the cleanliness of that, but figured since egg shell was semi porous that I might send bacteria into the egg if I washed it. Wasn't too worried about just cracking the egg on the side of the bowl. Geesh!

  • @katzcradul :) Yes, if you slice a chicken in half (gasp) you'll see the tiny yolks right in front of the oviduct. The tiny yolks move into the duct, as it moves along, it gets coated with albumin (the white in an egg) and then the hard outer shell right before the egg exits the hen's body. That same egg port is the poo port. That alone would make me soapy wash each egg. Disease can be inside or outside the egg. Wash and cook thoroughly.

  • That is a great ginder, (I dont have one). but you can take a used stationary bike and mount a pulley and use a v belt and peddle your machine. One person fills the hopper, other person peddles. you can make alot of flour this way

  • There you go. :)

On this particular grinder, it states in the warranty papers that if you hook up any auto grinder except for theirs, your warranty is voided. (I certainly like your idea though. )

  • If you coat your eggs with warm (165 degree farenheit) mineral oil... They'll keep for months. Even without being in the fridge! Test eggs by submerging in water... don't eat the ones that float.

  • Hey, GoatHollow. Good to hear from you again.

I've heard about the mineral bath, but haven't tried it. Two questions for you. 1. Have you successfully tried it before and how long did the eggs last, on the average? 2. Can you use regular table oil, like corn or canola oil, instead of heated mineral oil with similar results?

Thanks for watching. More on this project coming soon.

    Kasin.

  • Have not tried it myself. I have a great little book called the backyard homestead that mentions it. the seem to keep for a couple of months in the fridge anyway, so I haven't felt the need. Might try the "Water glass" method or sodium silicate. Seems like an interesting experiment

  • Would you let me know if do that experiment? I'd be interested in how the eggs turned out. tnx
