i was actually thinking about getting one of these. a cdx diesel. I have heard it's not very powerful, but how powerful does it need to be for a first car?
It's funny because the 1st Holden Cruze was a 4wd that looked exactly like a Suzuki Sierra or Jimny, they are still around so when customers ring my workshop to book their Cruze in for a service I stump them when I ask if their car is the sedan or the 4wd.
Who with any taste in cars would ever want one of these? commadoors are ugly enough these things are rank and based on poorley developed korean plastic. If you want to support aussie jobs buy a TOYOTA if you want to support a yank based company buy a DODGE!!!! miles better then this gm vomit. My 70s valiant is still running tough and so is my 20 year old supra its smooth as silk and eveything still works!!
they promote the SRI-V as being sporty, just wait until you drive it and find out how sloow it is! My GF & parents were both going to buy one until we drove it. Nice car but needs another 30kw & heaps more torque so its actually enjoyable & practical to drive.
@BigMrMitch Actually mate, @Nuckjohn is probably right. Go and do some research on how this car came about - the original Cruzes of this shape were simply Daewoos rebadged into Holdens. Daewoo & Holden are both part of GM's global operation, which also includes Chevrolet.
The fact is this car is a GM product which will have inputs from its global operations, as part of its economies of scale. They don't just make cars for Australia, and it would be ignorant to believe they did.
@LTD92DC Actually you are wrong and I know this because I worked on the fucking thing. There is no such thing as Daewoo these days. It is a chevrolet "mate". Its a world car and it is on GM's Delta platform. Which is also shared with the new Opel Astra. Its also one of the safest and best value cars in its class..period. The ignorance surrounding people that diss Holden and GM is fucking astonishing.
@BigMrMitch Thats because there shit man, holden has always been dodgey i have never been in one that has impressed me the interiors are poorly put together the cars have huge gaps in the panels even the old kingswoods are lumps of crap compared to a dodge, plymouth or valiants of the same era. The only reason holden is still around is because of government bailouts and fleet sales. We should be focusing on other better brands to start manafacturing in austrailia (japanese/euro).
@twinturboteen18 When you have a proper grasp of the English language, maybe then I will take your points on board. Apart from your rather appalling spelling and grammar, you also obviously know fuck all about cars.
@BigMrMitch It was late.Well I know enough to understand chassis dynamics, how an engine creates torque/power, how to strip and rebuild an engine, aerodynamics, rolling resistances, drag and the effects of lift and down force at high speeds, power to weight ratios, compression and the effects of supercharging an engine, fuel supply systems, modern computer and carburettor systems, full knowledge of suspension systems and the effects of spring and damper control.
@twinturboteen18 Not to mention a knowledge of most American and Japanese car names chassis numbers engine codes as well as option packages. How weight transfer effects tractive force, how torque effects tractive force, how certain heads flow better than others, engine layouts advantages and disadvantages, the differences between automatic and manual transmissions, metals and plastics used in the manufacturing process, quality control during the manufacturing process.
@twinturboteen18 Flaws in modern manufacturing as well as safety standards and emission control scheme. The only things I lack knowledge on are electric and hydrogen veachles Im just giving my personal view of what this car is to the industry, a below par hack aimed at ignorrent younger buyers and holden lovers who wouldnt know a good car if it drove into them.
@heeeeeeeyyyyyyyyy I like the car myself and i agree the price is pretty good. I am very tempted to get one. I must be one of these ignorant buyer's who wouldn't know a good car if it drove into them. hahahahah. Oh Lord what rubbish.
@twinturboteen18 My husband is nearing sixty and drives a new commodore. Wouldn't a sixty year old know more about car's than a young lad of 22 ??? My 30 year old son makes parts for Holden cars. I drove many government cars and the Holdens were one of the best to drive. I'm not happy with my Kai and would much prefer to have a Holden Cruz if i could and dear please do not put us down as we certainly know our cars.
@twinturboteen18 My husband would get me a Cruz if I wanted one and he certainly doesn't have your 22 year old attitude. He knows his cars and after driving Holden's for over 40 years is very well versed and his latest Holden is a Commodor HSV. He has never had any problem's. A cruze would make an ideal second car. Younger buyers Twin Usually go for the second hand commodores unless they had rich parents who would buy them a Cruze.
@twinturboteen18 I had a Japanese car years ago i was very happy with, but i haven't liked any of their designs since. The look of a car is very important to. It depends what appeals to people. If they brought back Tarrif duties on imported car's it may help our own industries far more.
@twinturboteen18 My friends always had Holdens when i was a teenager in the 60s and they never complained. All of our cars (10) have been Holden's. My husband will never buy anything else. My 30 year old son drives a commodore. The problem is we have so many different varieties of overseas cars being imported. Holdens have never been dodgy.
@LTD92DC And yes of Course Holden shares it with Chevrolet but there are several updates the the Holden version that the Chevy doesn't have including styling, suspension and interior bits. The Holden version is also the best constructed version of the Cruze out of any of the factories that it is made in...The car has been a major success for Holden and Chevy. Why people want to hate on this is fucking beyond me. Let's hope it's not your job and livlihood under attack in the future ei?
Aw man, how come we don't get something like this stuff on the U.S.-spec Cruze? That looks great! The kit, the keyless ignition, the color palette (quite fond of that green, personally)! Hopefully, we'll get a sport model like the SRi-V, here (Cruze SS, anyone?) next model year.
I know it's still the same car and everything, but it's still kind of funny that the ad says "we've given it a serious workout" as that was playing, as if it was Holden that designed and raced that car.
Heck, it's not even really a Chevrolet either, it was designed by Opel.
@TBustah better Opel than Daewoo, would of been nice to keep the Vauxhall/Opel smaller cars like the Barina but i guess holden couldn't sell them cheap enough to make a decent profit and remain competitive.
Anyway, I wasn't bashing the car (it actually seems a bit nicer than the Chevrolet version we have here), I was just pointing out that misleading little bit.
@GoWfan86 That's what I meant. I didn't mean "design" as in the aesthetics, I meant that Opel designed the engine and everything. I think it's pretty clear what I meant in context.
At any rate, my point was that Holden didn't really engineer OR design this thing, but the commercial makes it sound like they did.
@TBustah haha some bogan chick I saw the other day was driving one and had actually replaced the Holden badge with a bogan stamp (Chev badge) was good for a laugh. I might go find a Ford Laser and put a Mazda badge on it now.....hahahaha. Or perhaps a Mitsubishi badge on a Hyundai Terracan seeing as all its underpinnings are previous model Pajero....
i typed in car fails and this was the first video bahaha

Where is the Holden Green car that Australian tax payers forked out 180 million dollars as part of the Green car innovation fund ??
How come GM builds the Volt in the US and Holden reinvents the petrol car that runs off a non renewable and polluting fossil fuel energy source ??
Sounds like Australian tax payers have been taken for a ride again which is not unusual :(
