furthermore, they use the gumboots because the miners weren't allowed to talk during work hours, so therefore they clap and stomp with the boots as a mean to communicate

gumboots .......................you see music was sung by the migrant workers when they were far from their families so they would be on breaks from digging deep in the mines so it was not fun but it was the work attire and they had no drums and made music from these gumbootsso most groups took it from the miners to wear gomboots

Gumboots are part of what they on stage and they help with the depth of the rhythm. They perform gumboots dance as part of the whole act
