  • If I ONLY had a GUN... Couldn't they have made it just a tinny bit more COMPLICATED? GEEZ! I'm TRYING to use Adobe After Effects to edit video from two different cameras: one is tape and the other one is digital. Well, needless to say, I got a headache the size of (insert large State of your choice here). One image is fine but the other one is too fat. OR VICEVERSA! I will save your vid in my favs as I think it does the best job explaining the "compensation" issue. THANKS!

  • Great video, helpful too.

However despite filming using a standard definition DV 16:9 PAL camera then editing and saving the final movie (all in 16:9 PAL using windows movie maker 2) You Tube is still distorting the image when I upload it.

What ''save movie as'' option do I need to use on Movie Maker that A) keep high quality and B) Prevents image stretching on uploaded videos? I don't want to use their tags either because I think the quality drops badly.

  • There are some idiots out there that dont understand, you should show some pictures of how it would look if it had the same pixel by pixel ratio but different Pixel Aspect Ratio, and how certain pixel by pixels are used to compensate for the lack or extended features on PAL and such

  • @Jebrone How long do you work with video, man? You can call me as you please, but don't disorient people.

  • Total bullshit!!!!

Go to wikipedia for pixel aspect ratio.

Wide screen has the same number of pixels as standart screen.

  • @Petersson554 Your an idiot, wikipedia is never a reliable sorce! Plus you didn't understand any thing he said!

  • Total bullshit!!!!

    1) DV (Digital Video) and SD (Standart Definition) are from different categories. They are can't be compared.

    2) 16:9 (Wide) frame in PAL (720x576) or NTSC(720x480) standart has the same number of pixels as 4:3 PAL (720x576)and NTSC (720x480). Difference exactly in Pixel Aspect Ratio "PAR".

  • You the man. Thanks bro

  • What was the point of non square pixels in the first place? Surely it would have made sense to use square pixels from day zero?

  • realy nice explained.

    great narration....

    Thank you!

    5/5

  • Interesting little video! Too bad, that many people don't care that a circle looks like a circle. How many videos are out there, where the Moon looks like a goddamn ellipse?

  • Thank you very very much.

  • Can anyone tell me what is the "pixel aspect ratio" I should insert in Sony Vegas?

In other words, i wanna resize a video for HD playback in youtube, how do i do this in sony vegas?

  • Try rendering out at 1280 x 720

  • @EA2713

is exactly what is explained in this video

  • @krank2910

Wow, you replied to my comment a year after it was posted. I already know how to do all of the shit on Sony Vegas.

  • @krank2910

ok..i'll replies next year. See you..

  • Thank you! I've been messing around with HD video on YouTube and it has been driving me bonkers! The information in your video has helped me solve all of my problems. Your video is straightforward and very informative, Top Marks! Thanks again - Jam ;-)

  • Oh god! Thank you so much!

  • mate! thankyou for put'n this up. i have been dealing with problems involving this very thing, as have others and i'm sure this will be of great help to many.

i do have one question, what is the best size for You-Tube? your vid is nicely placed "edge to edge" of the screen, sometimes i see vids that have back strips or boarders. i wish to eliminate this as it looks 100x better without these back bits. can you please tell me the size you used for this vid? it too would be of great help. thanks.

  • Hi, thanks to the help from this video I can tell you that YouTube recommend 1280 x 720 (16 x 9) for HD and 640 x 480 (4 x 3) for Standard Definition. the part I fell down on was thinking that the aspect ratio should be 1:333. As I now know that the pixels should be square I can tell you that it should be 1:1 and the resolution takes care of the rest. Thanks again to the author of this video! - Jam ;-)
