how do you learn to play synths as well as this? do you have to learn to play piano, or just teach yourself on the synth? must be hard

lol, its like a piano as in each key plays a note, and the note layout is the same, but it can create lots of different voices... through modifying different parameters(changing the wave form) through analogue means or in the case of digital synths, algorithms. (plz correct me if i get the specific technical details arse about)

the need to know how to play piano depends on what you want to do. To do covers or actually write complex songs you need to know more, than if you just want to dick around or write simple melodies in C scale (all the white notes). with most polyphonic synths (this one isn't polyphonic, one note at a time) u could easily teach your self to play traditional piano. Some people don't even bother learning traditional notation, just learn songs from midi tracks or by ear.

anyways this awesome guy jexus obviously knows how to play traditional piano (lol probs made to do it as a kid) cause almost (not everything) everything he plays is his not covers. He knows how to write songs in a key. Also his fingers demonstrate correct posture.

stop arguing about the sound between the ARP and the Moog.  Or don't you know that each keyboard has its own sound? The polivoks doesn't have a moog filter and either does the ARP('cept the very few ones that do). It is what it is, now move own. I personally use an ARP Odyssey MKII, Yamaha DX7, Korg DW8000, and Casio CZ-101, and I don't expect one to sound like the other. Buy the synth with the sound you want, then shut up already

So Carlos Santana considered the Odyssey a "feminine" synth and the Minimoog a "masculine" synth. I dunno'.........I think the Odyssey has balls!!!  Albeit, completely different "balls." I know, back in the old days they shared some of the same components until Moog cried "foul"!!!!

Now that I've played with the ARP ODYSSEY I can safely say it is the BEST SYNTHESIZER EVER. Even better than the minimoog. Yeah I know the minimoog is warm and fuzzy and it has character but the odyssey can take you to 1000 MORE DIMENSIONS!!!!!!!!

but remember that many synths selling in the UK are still very underrated and cheap, eg. soviet ones. last week i have bought russian Junost 21 for only 30 quid and Ritm 2 for only 160. silly! imo both sounds great! a pure analog power. just imagine a price for such a polysynth or funky moog-like monophonic if they were made in USA or Japan!

ARP is so much like moog that it is crazy. I do have to say that moog is more reliable. What killed the ARP was dust getting in the sliders. Still a great synth! Thanks for posting.

I had one for about 4 years... loved it soooo much, i would spend hours just losing myself in crazy sounds.. i miss it alot.. be careful of credit cards.. i had to sell my ARP to pay back a holiday debt.. the holiday was good too but the odyssey is a keeper. I don't think so. The one with the Moog filter is the MK2 model, and has the PPC pads; this has the pitch knob. Some of the MK1 models were black.
