(I had to express my feelings and share it the world...)
here i go...
before to me, you were just too complicated and even boring to listen to, now I can't even stop submerging my self to you and your music playing, you are just too exciting and out of this era at this moment in TIME, that I believe musicians and ordinary people can't understand what you portray or put out there (or here), because it is too damn ahead of time! Bruford, you flatter inspire me! BRUFORD!
Oh yes he is! With a haircut and bombastectomy, to be sure, but Michiel is a virtuoso just the same. Actually, Bill said that they had never played together until they stepped on the stage and started improvising. Bill and Michiel showed great imagination and "fuel" (and courage!) to do what they did in front of a crowd.
Michiel and Kieth are both great keyboardists, just that they do different things. Hope that helps clear things up.
You hit the nail on the head. I was just looking at another Bruford clip here on Youtube where someone was complaining about his lack of dynamics. Bill has always known about dynamics, or as he would say, " The way the tide comes and goes".
i have heard bill use dynamics extensively with other projects. during an improv session, its harder to anticipate the other instrument to be able to effectively add dynamics. also, knowing bill, he probably chose not to use any dynamics in this piece. he is ONE with the "tide"
What a great sounding kit!! Mind you, when did Bill ever have a bad-sounding kit? Great piece of music. Such a shame that he has 'retired' from live performance!!
From your position of ignorance, I guess not. What's Keith Emerson got to do with this? The guys here are not trying to replicate ELP, Bortslap isn't trying to out-do Keith here either. I'm wondering if you're one of those people who think Bruford should 'stop playing jazz' and rejoin King Crimson.

Drumming is as much about touch as any other aspect and Bruford was a master of this, Makes me think of Dave Weckl for feel.

I just realised that voice playback thing is a recording of poet TS Eliot, I think it is of him reading The Wasteland but it is definitely TS Eliot.

I believe Trey Gunn used to a sample from that in his gear when he was in King Crimson.
