Sherlock would probably respond by saying it was a US FCC regulation that required the stating of the obvious, still, in 1987. After Clinton and Gingrich were in power, FCC regulations changed in the 1990's.
This must've been after veteran announcer Leif Jensen retired from Ch. 7, after a long run that dated to WNAC/Yankee Network days (albeit the last years of the latter).
Thanks Sherlock for telling me some of the programming was pre-recorded, even in 1987!
