@zSucKiiTz Lol, I'm playing this game through again and had forgotten how hard this boss is. First time I faced him Down burst followed by attack on Jansen followed by down burst. Took 4 times of trying in the end to beat him. It's one of the cheapest boss battles around considering it's the first boss in the game.
I thought I was beast mode and this boss was gonna be a pushover.....I was like WTF in the middle of the battle.....I thought it was one of those "you're supposed to lose" battles. eventually I beat it but damn...wtf! why make the first boss harder than the second....even third....even fourth?!?!
@Rhosius its because they return to live after 3 turns ( if you dont us a item to angel feather ) and if all the character are down its game over but its realy easy to lost all your team in a boss battle
I just had Seth and Kaim use Flare Bomb (had 2) then kept on healing Jansen while he Shielded everyone and then used Flare and occasionally attacked with Seth and Kaim. Took me like 5 minutes and used about 4 healing medicine.
This is the GAYEST game ever. All enemies are a KNOCKOVER until you get to this boss - then you get your ASS raped and have to walk around leveling up for an hour just to have half a chance against this boss. Games like this are just NOT worth playing - fuck this game.
@mycatisromeo I can't agree more, I enjoyed the pretty basic game play had a few random battles up until this point and now I cannot continue because I am a basic level 10 etc and this boss pwns and my only option is fighting to level up so early its stupid. Giving this game back to my mate tomorrow :-(
@HarshlyCritical I just played the game naturally up until that point, I beat every random encounter I came across and just carried on, I only reached level 10 by this point. I am sure I am missing out on a great game the story looks awesome but I can not be bothered spending my time in random encounters just to level up it is daft
@AscendantGaming If that's how you feel about how you spend your time, I'm confused why you were interested in a turn-based JRPG with 4 Discs in the first place. :\ Not trying to be a dick, but you level up very quickly in this game. It took me maybe two encounters to go from 10 to 11, and three from 11 to 12. Anyway, I was just curious. Best of luck with other games.

I remember spending time boosting up levels against cactus things I think to fight that big underwater boss thing but since then I have avoided it. @MultiBrowngirl duh lol, the original FF maker created the studio (mistwalker) who worked on Lost Odyssey. He doped to make a rival series to FF (meaning there will be Lost Odyssey 2,3,4, and so on)

just started this game today and it only took me 1 minute to pwn this boss. I think maybe because it's a lvl 15 boss and my characters were lvl 15 too. It used that stupid wing attack on me once and nearly killed everyone, but Jansen took it out using flare. not a hard fight at all. just lvl your team up and i'm sure you'll destroy it quickly like I did.
@915nabi The problem with this boss is that it's too luck-based IMO. The first time I fought him, he used Burst Down two times in a row, and another one two turns later. I actually managed to beat him, but I spent so many items that I decided to load the save and try again. Then he didn't use Burst Down even once, and he was easy. I've heard of people having him use that attack three times in a row though.

It's funny seeing people cry about having to do hours and hours of grinding in this game. They don't realize that these bosses require certain strategies and that you can't simply beat them by grinding. Oh, sure, you could grind for DAYS and then go beat a boss but, uh, that wasn't what Mistwalker intended for players.
Cant bvelieve how many people are saying they had trouble wioth this boss, he wasn't that hard. About as tough as every other rpgs first boss. Great game though frakin love it,
-Abuse fire magic/bombs. Physical attacks are barely worth it.
-Hope he doesn't use his "hit everyone for 200 damage and obliterate your GC" move. That plus a follow up poison claw will probably kill off someone unless you've been level grinding. I've never seen him do it twice in a row, at least, so you have that going for you.
-Use healing items/antidotes. The Heal spell is too slow.
Pray to the RNG gods on this one. Poorly designed first boss is poorly designed >_>

This game isn't to hard. The only really hard part is when you first get to the Temple of Enlightenment. The hellish Kelolons can be a pain if you don't have the right skills and magic set-up on your immortals. Other then that this game is easy if you get what you need :)
this is so much depending on luck!! in your video he doesnt do its strong attack which deals damage to all party members at once. for me he did that EVERY time....its just non-sense enemy a.i.
I've just completed this game and I think this area was the toughest in the game in relation to your strength at this point in the game. So try to hang in there, it'll get easier!
I found out that playing defensive against this guy is a waste of time because of that god damn move "Down Burst" you can't afford to sit around chipping away at his health slowly. I actually went out of my way and purchased a few Flare Bombs at the vendor outside Uhra's Great Gate solely for this boss fight :P
So the strategy was simply to have Kaim and Seth use Flare Bomb's and have Jansen cast Flare every turn. Burst baby burst!

Somehow, this feels like a true final fantasy made back into the olden days, even though I know this isnt a final fantasy. If I were to buy an xbox 360, it would only be so that I could buy this game.
You people must suck, no offence. I beat this guy and the worm boss with no problems. Every other boss after that has been a cake walk. I wish they were a challange.
I found out how to bypass Burst Down: My white magic gave me a skill called Barrier (defense from magical attacks) and it made Burst Down deal only 62 damage to each of my party members as opposed to 220. Try it, it works well.
I placed Kaim in front row and the other 2 in the back. I kept telling Jensen to use Flare and equipped Kaim with a Flame Ring and used Seth to keep healing. I beat Grilgan very easily to be honest in a few minutes.
I am new to the turn based RPG world...could someone tell me how I get Kaim and Seth to have magic. I went through enough battles to learn all of the skill links from Jensen, but for some reason when I go into any battle, I can't select any magic. I'm sure it's something simple I missed from the menu screen or something.
Find items. I cant recall the name but one of the very early in the game allows use of lvl 2 black and white magic. Just explore and dont be afraid of getting into a fight but if low on items hp or mp just use turntail with one character and defend with everyone else. and remember you must acquire a certain amount of skill pts before the skill is completely linked to your immortal
@nursenutzz you have to set the skills to kaim and seth. Yes you learned them, but if you watched the tutorial it gives you it tells you that after you learn it you have to set them.
Since fire hurts him the most, you just keep Jansen in the back, and just keep buffing him. You use those flare bombs when possible, but the other two should really be used to buff Jensan. Only use the Angel Plumes if he goes down, since he's the only one that can do considerable damage. The boss will tend to go for Jansen, but you keep have to worry about keeping him alive with the other two.
A good 5-6 blows from Jansen alone should do him in.
i found the easiest way was to just have jansen keep healing them use power drink on kaim have him with the fire ring you find the components from searching around in the begining and just have seth and kaim constantly pounding him in the rectum
When I was at the Grand Staff, there was two electrical worm, what are came one after another. THAT took about 3 hours of my life while I defeated him already. :)
Hey here is something to know. Get to level 15, Kaim Seth and Jansen. Get them all to level 15 youll be the perfect level to beat Grilgan and youll get an acheivement called PERFECT TRIO. worth 15 gamer score
This game is really fucking annoying me now, I've tried killing this boss abt 10 times, and actually, while I was typing this out, I beat him, lol. It's all abt LUCK end-of-story! I just beat him easily cos he was only attacking Jansen, but most other tries he used down burst all the time and there's NOTHING you can do to beat him when he does that. I tried to kill grilgan but everytime i try he kills me, sometimes even at the beginning when he uses the spell about 250 dmg on all team two times in a row, on your vid grilgan is only fighting back and using poison claw, i bet it will be way harder when he uses the 250 dmg spell, i think i just gonna put down that game if i can't beat that boss after 5-10 times and wait for dragon age. but nice vid and thx.

I finally beat him took me 3 tries. I ended up putting Seth on the back row. I used flare with all 3 people at the start. After that it seemd like most turns Grilgan was just attacking Jansen so I would use medical herbs with Kaim and Seth each turn and just attack with Jansen. Putting Seth on the back row seemed to help a lot though.
The worst boss, in my opinion, is when you fight Arthrosaurus (I believe that's how you spell it) and then you have to fight FOUR OTHER ONES...and if just ONE touches numara, GAME OVER...pissed me the f*ck off but i made it passed it.
This game's bosses are some real jerks. So it forced me to stupidly run up and down the landscape for about an HOUR to find me some dudes to slaughter, until I finally had leveled up enough.
These fights border on unfair. I find that reviving immortals during a fight is very useless, since they revive after some turns. Keep the mortals alive, and everything works out :-)
Wow. I can't believe how lucky you were when killing him. That fucking asshole of a boss never hit you with down burst once. It takes me every turn of using items to fucking keep 1 person alive after the fag spams down burst and deals 2/3 of everyones hp at once.
When I first bought this game I thought it was ok and not much of a challenge... Then I fight this guy and that was pretty insane difficulty wise for the first boss the beginning however is far more difficult then the later game though

I basically came up with my own strategy.
Since fire hurts him the most, you just keep Jansen in the back, and just keep buffing him. You use those flare bombs when possible, but the other two should really be used to buff Jensan. Only use the Angel Plumes if he goes down, since he's the only one that can do considerable damage. The boss will tend to go for Jansen, but you keep have to worry about keeping him alive with the other two.
A good 5-6 blows from Jansen alone should do him in.

i found the easiest way was to just have jansen keep healing them use power drink on kaim have him with the fire ring you find the components from searching around in the begining and just have seth and kaim constantly pounding him in the rectum

I killed it at first time.
When I was at the Grand Staff, there was two electrical worm, what are came one after another. THAT took about 3 hours of my life while I defeated him already. :)

Hey here is something to know. Get to level 15, Kaim Seth and Jansen. Get them all to level 15 youll be the perfect level to beat Grilgan and youll get an acheivement called PERFECT TRIO. worth 15 gamer score

This is easy if you play defencively because then he is a lot less likey to do a down burst attack for some reason..
Most likey because the game wants you to play with a changed sratagey instead of an easy attack kill...

This game is really fucking annoying me now, I've tried killing this boss abt 10 times, and actually, while I was typing this out, I beat him, lol. It's all abt LUCK end-of-story! I just beat him easily cos he was only attacking Jansen, but most other tries he used down burst all the time and there's NOTHING you can do to beat him when he does that. So for all you people who are pulling your hair out, just keep trying!!

I tried to kill grilgan but everytime i try he kills me, sometimes even at the beginning when he uses the spell about 250 dmg on all team two times in a row, on your vid grilgan is only fighting back and using poison claw, i bet it will be way harder when he uses the 250 dmg spell, i think i just gonna put down that game if i can't beat that boss after 5-10 times and wait for dragon age. but nice vid and thx.

why r people sayin this boss is hard my party was at lvl 12 and 13 and i beat it on my 1st try i just made sure jansen used flare every time and had 1immortal use a heal item and made sure i had 2 people attack it went down easy

I finally beat him took me 3 tries. I ended up putting Seth on the back row. I used flare with all 3 people at the start. After that it seemd like most turns Grilgan was just attacking Jansen so I would use medical herbs with Kaim and Seth each turn and just attack with Jansen. Putting Seth on the back row seemed to help a lot though.

The worst boss, in my opinion, is when you fight Arthrosaurus (I believe that's how you spell it) and then you have to fight FOUR OTHER ONES...and if just ONE touches numara, GAME OVER...pissed me the f*ck off but i made it passed it.

This game's bosses are some real jerks. So it forced me to stupidly run up and down the landscape for about an HOUR to find me some dudes to slaughter, until I finally had leveled up enough.
These fights border on unfair. I find that reviving immortals during a fight is very useless, since they revive after some turns. Keep the mortals alive, and everything works out :-)
