I don't mean to give disrespect but it seems like a lot of kids that want to break today thought it looked cool when they saw what was done in the eighties but they don't have the style because their not part of the movement. They just want to do that too. Their not as connected as the pioneers. It would be hard to look just like that originality while being original. Personally I just like the original ideas that accompanied that time and belief of the movement.
I agree. skills are here. but this looks like every other battle you see on youtube, same moves, etc. The problem is that there is no feeling, no understanding of the timing, the moves, of the old school. There just isn't. ...i am not sure how to describe it...it has something to do with the way one goes into and out of the moves, uprock to floor, footwork to spinning,....all relating to the music, ..?!?
@DodgaP Spot on mate, couldnt have put it better myself. I was trying to emulate Crazy Legs, Kuriaki, Frosty Freeze et al in 82, failing badl but still tried cos I was part of it all at that time and loved it. It was the whole thing, the graff, the MC's, the breaking, the DJ's thats what Hop Hop is (was). It was raw back then, non-commercial, real street. Glorious days. I'd do anything to go back
@DodgaP You put it beautifully DodgaP! Some of these 'moves' are utterly non-fluid, seemingly moving from one muscle-group to another; its almost a group seizure! I mean no disrespect to these guys, but performing hand stands and other 'stuff' is not a representation of fluid sequence to which breaking aspires! Look at the Japanese groups,- these guys are superb in utilising every muscle group seemlessly! Best wishes DodgaP. Ebs.
@Ebsteins31653 I'm afraid I left some of my 'best moves' for an academic genre',- you know, mathematics, chemistry, physics, medical school et al. I spent a year in Tokyo and, as I mentioned in my previous comment, the Japanese 'breakers' are absolutely out of this world! They use muscle groups that the rest of us (including those in the video) have simply never used! I can send you a video of my reciting the Periodic Table in Latin and then Greek if you wish, but that's not very 'street' is it?
it's called evolution boys and girls...these new school cats get respect from the old school cats because they give the pioneers such as rocksteady and NYC breakers respect....think about it...its simple...all the old school MC's would respect these new MC's alot more if they showed them some respect...
the real breaking is were it all started in the south bronx this is bull shit all bitters rock steady and the real new york city breakers for ever old school hip hop 80s forever
this generation cant touch the era of the 80s they all whanna bees breakers soft cats the real breaking is were it all started in the south bronx this is bull shit all bitters rock steady rules for ever
lol the eightys werent even the best, there were many innovators during that time though and they were dope. but i think the 70's had the good stuff. and there are plenty of dope bboys nowadays but are just not known.
Yes - they can spin around and do some flips. See how none of them follow the rythem or beat of the music? There's no flow and more importantly no concept of rythem and transition. I'm not impressed.

I've been trying to figure out why i like this video so much. it finally dawned on me. no koreans or one-dimensional powerheads. to me, this is the essence of bboying. guys with all the skills. toprock, floorwork, and the right amount of gymanstic ability, all blended in rhtymically with the music. no knock on korean bboys. i just prefer this style.
DodgaP I agree!! Nobody can rock floor work or top rock with style these damn days, it's pathetic.
