How can i get that Night Scene?? i mean using Exposure or AGC??? because i have a Canon HF S11 and there isnt a Night Scene Mode, only Cinema Mode, TV, AE, AV... pls help me, i want record some band concerts XD
@TrustTheG Mmmm... I'll be shooting with a bit of both from now on. Normal mode, you can see more most of the time but sometimes it looks like absolute crap. Wish my editing software could generate 1080p WMV files.
@MageThief So far that's Program AE 1, Night Scene 0. After staring at graininess for so long I like the cleanliness of Night Scene mode, but the reason I put this up is to hear from folks like yourself who like the other one. ;-)
Also, if you are making a "artistic" video I think that the Night Scene mode will do much nicer, maybe raise the contrast a bit and you can make some cool videos
Night Scene would work awesome for a show with a bigger stage and more lighting because it's more like what the eye sees but for this stage the AE works better because you can see more even though it is grainy.
@crimsonigloo AE 5 Night 1. Damn I liked night scene more meself, after seeing graininess for so long. Yeah this particular live house is rather dark. Got to be something I can do with camera settings to get it in between.
I prefer the "night scene settings" in this video, I would only use AE as a compromise if theres really no other lightsource to brighten the scene a bit.

Which one best represents the reality?
Does night scene look like it did when you were there with your own eyes? Or did you see it like default?
I like night scene, and play with contrast on post if you want to see more.

@TrustTheG AE 8 Night 2. Yeah that was a problem with Night Mode on this one.

The default "Program AE" mode

Well, then you should put up both versions so folks like us here :) can choose. But I guess it will take to much time.
Well, what ever you do it will be great.

Night has more clarity but default can see more.

@MasakiHikaru Got a preference? ;-D
ElevenColors 2 years ago
Well, The default seems to compramise the quality just a bit but has better light compensation. I think the night mode would be better on quality.
MasakiHikaru 2 years ago
The night scene seems crisper and clearer but we can't see as well with this much lighting, so I guess the default mode wins on the light side.

@Ido013 Program AE 2, Night Scene 0.

The Night Scene looks Better to me, more definition and I feel more like Im there,but hey it is a matter of preference :)

@denitson777 Program AE 2 Night Scene 1. Aye, I like the Night Scene better meself too.
ElevenColors 2 years ago
Can you do something in between in manual? The two options you present are 1) too light and washed out, and 2) too dark so you can't see anything.

@LordBalto That's a thought. I need to find someplace in the neighborhood where I can experiment at night.

@aussielung AE 3 Night 1. Aye, Night Scene would have been better with just a bit more lighting. Then the black parts would have been properly black.

i like default truthfully

Default is better because you can see more, but is that down to the lighting? [x]

I watched it again and the grainy-ness does get to me after a bit, An in-between option would be a lot better! if only... [x]

I prefer AE mode. I'll deal with the graininess if I can see what's going on better.

I prefer night scene. Less to see, but it looks much less grainy.
