Darkness is a place without light, cold and far from God. The Bible also says darkness is a cover for evil, it hides it. But in the light, evil can't be hidden (think about thieves they don't usually steal in the daytime). Light reveals truth. It's more about the presence or absence of light for me, not really a shade or a colour.

I guess for me, as a Christian it goes back to the Bible where darkness is the absence of light. Light represents warmth like the sun, love, and God's presence. Darkness is a place without light, cold and far from God. The Bible also says darkness is a cover for evil, it hides it. But in the light, evil can't be hidden (think about thieves they don't usually steal in the daytime). Light reveals truth. It's more about the presence or absence of light for me, not really a shade or a colour.

@jmuckeroy I have no idea what colour the people who wrote the Bible are/were. But it was the inspired word of God behind their words. I'm not going to enter into a debate about the existance of God. I was just saying that referring to darkness as a metaphor for evil isn't a social snub towards people of colour. It identifies light as a place where evil can't hide, and darkness as a cover, a place where evil can go on without being detected. Hence darkness is associated with evil.

And actually when Jesus was born they say a light shone on him, and then of course the bright star led people to his birthplace too. Maybe hell has no lights? But they also say in the bible that heaven has no night, the sun shines always (or something similar to that).
