Jesus stopped him and changed his life and destiny. But Jesus wasn't just a good man, a faithful Jew, or even a prophet of God- Jesus was the Son of God, our Savior- the only offering to take away all of our sins. A good man doesn't go around saying "Love me more than your mom and dad" or "My words will last til the end of time" -This WAS GOD

There are many ways to go on it, but the God of the OT kept eluding "Wait for your Messiah" pointing forward to Christ (as a redeemer of man to God!) and the Holy Spirit doesn't get worship, He points us back to Christ! In arameic, christ and his followers reffered to God as ''Allaha''. This is the Name of God in arameic.
@Neb That isn't why Christians are turning away. Mohamed and Buddha didn't claim to be the Son of God. Jesus went to the cross because of his intolerant claims! Everything rested on Him being the Son of God. And when you get to Revelations, The Lamb is sitting on the throne of God (With God!) and is given all power. Jesus had power from above to turn water into wine, heal the sick from miles away, raise the dead, and calm the storms- POWER over nature, illness, etc. but most importantly SINS!

You're right. Good men don't say those things. I know you're saying that it's okay for him to say those things because he's God, but doesn't Jesus know that saying those things is just going to get good people to turn away from him? Why couldn't he just say "Love GOD more than your mom and dad"?

And in fact is the biggest mistake most Jews made, and most Christians have trouble with- "WAS HE GOD?" And if you are a true Christian you HAVE to believe it, and trust in Him. Plus you must believe in Resurrection of the dead - or why would it all matter? Most Christians have it all wrong, and focus on themselves- JESUS IS THE ANSWER!

I would say "Love God" and Jesus says that. Have you read the gospels? For example: In Luke 10:25-37 he says that loving God and loving your neighbor are the way to eternal life. He doesn't say that loving Jesus is the way to eternal life, just loving God and your neighbor.

*He Commanded everyone to love Him more than anything- no idols- no cursing His name- keeping His day Holy! All this "LOVE GOD" stuff was BEFORE Honor your father/mother, and before the stuff about neighbors, lies, envy, etc. God is 1st! *
