Good thing that the smart fortwo is going to be my car in about less than 3 weeks,my 18 birthday is on 13 of May i have passed my theory driving test only thing left is the practical test.
that isn't like a safety cage.....the one on coupe is, however, but this one can't be because those things over the doors, are plastic and removable so the whole car is not as rigid as the coupe. if you want safety go with the hardtop.
@activist405 no it doesn't have tridion cell because it has no side bars, you know those thing you take of and put in the trunk, those aren't structure parts, get it so it's not as safe as the hardtop
I have a Smart for two pure and i had it for a year now. I can truly say that i still love the car and enjoy a good drive in it in town. BTW last trip i took in it was to Luray Caverns in Luray, VA with some mountain driving and the car handled very well.
i'm at 22 months with my car today, del date 1/21/08, love it to death! i might drive cross country for a video next year @ 50+mpgs, some clowns made a vid "10mph" crossing the country on a segway at 10mph. in the summer i can hit 50mpgs pretty consistantly, winter i drop to the 40's :(
Thank you for a positive review Kevin Sintumuang. This little wonder is getting enough bad press because if its size. Some day people will learn you can be safe in a small car too. After all it is because of the 12MPG SUV's that smaller cars have more challenges. Maybe the $4.00+ per gallon cost for gas will finally put some of the SUVs to rest. Again thanks for the positive review.
The suspension of the car is somewhat not so great, I mean it feels good on asphalt like any other car but beware of pot holes.. I would know all this because I own one.
(And you get A LOT of looks, believe me, expect a lot of attention... Lol)
Of course I love it! It's amazing. It's fun to drive, unusually spacious- I've actually done some extreme grocery shopping and fit everything which was pretty impressive. I've been a smart enthusiast for 3 years, I've been waiting for them to get into the US ever since then.
damn, its a nice car, but I wonder how it handles in VERY high winds in so cal (that regularly turn over tractor trailers) and can it climb and go down hills at a good clip
I've got one, and it seems that 90 degree gusts at over 40mph buffet it enough that you have to pay attention, but I never feel in any danger. About as good as any small car. The strangest thing is that you seem like you're going slower than you are. If the speed limit is 40, going 50 seems like 30. When you drive it you'll know what I mean.
my rush hour commutes, where i ride the brake pedal more than the gas pedal are low 40sMPG and i get up to 53mpg when i actually get to ride the gas pedal at 55-60mph, i think it would go higher at 45-50mph, time will tell.
mrbadx19, the MPG's you are getting is very promising. I know a lot is based on driving style. I neglected to ask if you regularly make use of your Air Conditioning. I know in your vid, it was snowing so not using the AC would be more economical. Just comparing. Thanks again.
no AC use yet, it's a tiny cabin, the AC option is $600, and hooked to a 70hp engine, i'm sure is not the same drag as a larger car. i had a geo metro for 9 years, the AC was a slight burden to performance but not to milage, i think the AC might cut 1-2mpg off the top, when i start using it and nothing off performance.
wonder no more, visit your local SmartCarCenter and drive one yourself. They are great to drive. As for the wind, I suspect if you were out in a hurricane, you'd need to be concerned. I didnt notice anything odd when passing trucks.
3 more days, hope you get it.......

Aside from the stiffer ride, do you like or dislike the car?

thanks for the comeback. Whats the base price on it?
dtcheatham 3 years ago
$11,500. Mine was 15 loaded.
zackgreer 3 years ago
i get that too, i try to keep mine at 60mph, and it'll creep to 70mph, that's why i want cruise control, the gas and brakes are "fly by wire"

mrbadx19, how do you like your Smart. Real world MPG's are they as expected?

Thanks. It was nearly 95 degrees here today. AC is vital in FL or being out in the traffic would be very stressful.
