@BeatCreatures It's quite straightforward to pass really. They'll check for overall confidence on the road and good observations of other road users and pedestrians.Plus, whether you do your life saver checks often enough, cancelling indicators in time after a turn etc etc.
You say not to do a cbt on your own bike but, i've had practise on mine on a two mile stretch of private road so i'm used to it. So would you still to use theirs considering this and the fact its a cruiser style bike - not the easiest bike to control for slow speed stuff ?
@landrovermad13 You're lucky in the fact that you've got a stretch of private land to practise your riding skills on, and that's great, use yours instead of theirs because you're comfortable with it already. But for some people who buy a brand new 125 bike and get it delivered to the CBT training centre this is probably not a good idea in case they drop it, it doesn't happen often but worth baring in mind.
Thank you for the really good video, im doing my CBT this weekend and am quite scared. Im scared im going to run somene over or go so slow round a roundabout i just fall off or something so ive been taking my ped to a field round my estate to practice. hope i pass :)
@TheHellgirlxoxo1 Everyone has nerves :-) I did too when I did my CBT, but remember, your instructor won't let you out onto the roads unless he or she thinks you're ready to.
And ask as many questions as you like to him just so he knows what your concerns are. Thanks for the comment too, good luck!
i only paid £80 for my CBT, the most expensive part was upgrading to 500cc for test's, CBT examinations are over a day and it can last even longer depending on the riders ability, if he is not natural he or she maybe asked to come back to complete training and trainers are allowed even DSA approved instructors helmet and gloves are a must
@uunit08 I'm quite sure you could do a direct access course which would bypass the 2 year limited restricted licence, unless of course there's an age restriction on doing that? I'm kinda out of touch with the bike laws at the moment I must admit,so apologies if that hasn't answered your question. Maybe someone else here knows where he stands?
@TheVybzPredator The training school is run by Motag and is situated on the National Sports Stadium inside the Crystal Palace park. If you enter the park at the railway station entrance on Anerley hill then you turn left at the station then up a hill partway then turn right and right again at the mini roundabout area. Or watch my latest vid as I ride past that area lol.
@TheVybzPredator I think at 16 you're only allowed to ride a 50cc, but you can double check with the DVLA website. Likewise with the provisional licence, they'll have details on how to apply for one on there.
If I have never ridden a bike, what should I do to be able to own one and ride it on the road. Would the CBT allow me to so or would I need extra lessons? cheers
@Pagra101 CBT actually allows you to ride on the road after you've done it. You'll only be able to ride upto a 125cc with L plates on though, but it's good as you can get plenty of miles under your belt before taking the proper bike tests.
what camera are you using? and how are you recording ur voice without any wind interference?? is it cus ur driving too slow or is the mic under ur helmet? reply plz. write the exact camera name and how you mount it. thank you
@nepalihercules My camera is a "bullet" cam style similar to the VIO POV HD, but my one is unbranded. If you search for a UK website called sport-cam then you can see it on there. It's very bulky though so not that practical to ride with all the time like some other riders do, but on the plus side the quality is pretty good & is cheaper too.
With regards to the mic, I use an external one hooked up to my mp3 player/recorder.
@nepalihercules The lack of wind noise is mainly down to the slower speeds I was doing on this vid, any faster than say 50mph & it does pick up a lot of background noise. I forgot to tell you how I mount the camera....it's just basically velcroed onto the side of my helmet along the right hand chin bar area.
@sidewindersnake1210 I guess it depends on the training school I guess, but 10 - 15 mins sounds about the right amount of time to let you out on more open roads, but also, I've seen some of my friends take their cbt and they never even touched an A road, so it may depend on the individual instructor in some ways if they think that a pupil is not ready for the faster roads.
@Boss100695 Good luck with that mate :-) A bit late now, but you asked me for more info, but I need specifics from you lol ! I thought I'd covered most things, but as always I miss out a few details, but I'll always answer a query if I can.
you went past brooklyn flats and near anerley school where i used to go back in 88'......andom but very cool to see as i havnt been back in around 20 years!
@glennplant I used to live in Anerley too around 1978, showing my age now lol. The place probably hasn't changed that much over the years though but you still wouldn't want to live there ;-)
my instructor told me today that the law changed on July 1 2011, and now the "learner" has to provide their own gear when going for the CBT. so BYO jacket, trousers, gloves, helmet, boots etc! that's a pretty serious capital outlay right from the outset!
@Agnelum1 Thanks for the info, I didn't know that things had changed so much regarding what you can wear and who supplies it on the day. It's still a big outlay then if a learner has to fork out for all the gear first, it would seem as usual that the government doesn't want people to learn to ride bikes :(
@elkfazer1 yep. confirmed again on Sunday (went for a ride with my instructor and a couple of other lads) that new students should now be told to bring their own gear. Instructor says that they are now not replacing any equipment that gets damaged/defective (e.g. dropped helmets, clothes that get ripped, old gloves etc) as it's no longer their responsibility.
don't know if this is UK-wide or only in Scotland...
@Agnelum1 I wonder if it IS only Scotland? I've heard about the Scots being tight with their cash ;-) lol
It would be interesting to find out if it is UK-wide though. Understandable of course though with all the equipment that must get used and abused even in a week! What's the next step I wonder, probably supply your own bike?
@elkfazer1 i had the same thought about the next step being "BYO bike"! it's crazy isn't it? after all, i'm sure that "rent" of gear is worked into the fees that learner's pay for rider training so i really don't see why the learner has to provide their own (apart from just ensuring that they'll have "proper fitting" gear). furthermore, the only legal requirement is a (securely fastened) helmet when on the road so unless they want to make full gear mandatory, it seems a bit overkill to me...
If you get a provisional licence, make sure you tick the "motorcycle" box. Otherwise you'll just have a car provisional and you'll have to go through palaver to get it sorted out before you can do your CBT.
As for gear, defo grab a helmet. Wearing a sweaty smelly CBT school's helmet sucks :( Much nicer to grab a helmet for yourself (You can grab a helmet for £30 upwards so its not such a massive expense).
@TheeRealPs3Channel Hey! Great news that you passed your CBT :-) it's quite easy as you say, but some people have problems with the U-turn and general balance at slow speeds. Nice to speak to another Londoner too!
@OoxTruExoO You're probably right about the gear, but only if you can afford it, it depends on financial situation at the time I guess. I was scratching my head when you mentioned about 4:02!! until it dawned on me that you thought I said something else other than Boots!! pmsl, you silly sod! Maybe I need elocution lessons haha.
@PaperWeight231 My pleasure! I had planned to do some more including the U-turn and emergency stop but I was running out of decent daylight, hopefully, that will be done next weekend.
you just need a plain provisional license
