"Spread the wealth" sounds nice at a glance, but it is a slippery path that communist governments were built upon. It sets a dangerous precedent that allows the government to take control of people lives. Spreading the wealth is good when its done voluntarily. Spreading the wealth through the police power of government, like modern democrats want to do, is dangerous and tragic.
