Even though boogie woogie music was created way back and predominant in early swing music. I think that this song and in particular the rhythm to it laid the foundation for rock boogie music that so many bands used and eventually turned into heavy metal music.
i love the feeling of hearing this song at the royals game after the game. even though its the song they play when they lose its still a great feeling. they play the beatles version when they win
I knew Wilbert and played guitar in some of his records back in the 60's. I feel very honored to have had that priviledge now. I feel very good reading all the compliments about his music as I know he would too. Rest In Peace, Wilbert, my friend.....
Hey folks ..... before putting up posts get your facts straight. Some people read these posts as fact . I do not.
Mr. Harrison had a # 1 Billboard hit with this song and this version by "WH" was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 songs that shaped Rock & Roll. In short this IS a classic.
I've got a 45 he did before this with the exact same music called "This Little Woman of Mine". It didn't sell and then he changed the words and thank god he did.
Great song, I just purchased 'ultimate oldies but goodies' collection with this song on it. awesome collection. I must of watched the infomercial a hundred times!
To: iLuvsljaee...No offense, but I looked at the beginning of the Jackson 5's version and they are not even in the same universe as Wilbert Harrison. They sounded like a bunch of chipmunks. RIP, Mr. Harrison......
My dad had this 45 and I used to play it over and over when I was kid. I was too young to really understand the song, but I loved the beat and his voice. My adoptive parents were much older, so I grew up listening to cool music like this.
This is the only recording in history to have topped out at number one on R&R, R&B and C&W charts, a feat not accomplished before or since (unless someone can set me straight on that). That fact makes it a hands down true classic, other than the fact it's got to be one of the best songs ever recorded. The year was 1959.
@RushmoreGerleve My pleasure! Haven't heard Wilbert's version of Stager Lee, only familiar with Lloyd Price's version... will check it out. A tid bit: Stagger Lee is a true story that happened on Christmas Eve, 1895 in St. Louis. Google it, the story is on line...and good luck with your studies!
Great song, the Beatles covered it, btw, I'm raising awareness about the Chinese Communist Party persecution of 70 million Falun Gong spiritual practitioners for 10 years in China. They are put in slave-labor camps, forced to make stuff sold here. A 2009 UN report said vital organs are even taken from them and sold on the black market. Falun Gong practitioners are peaceful, not terrorists. China is where all the jobs are going, and the media doesn't cover it. It must stop. Thanks.
Great Great song. That rhythm and beat -kind of a swinging blues shuffle -is fantastic. The Beatles did a terrific rocking version but this is a classic.
Back when I was in high school, (early 60s) I thought this song was so much fun to dance to. It had (as they used to say on American Bandstand) "a good beat and you could dance to it."
Is it just me or does this song sound like something that would appear in a pan on Americana film by David Lynch...like the Twin Peaks TV show? I love this tune.
Man, I sure would have liked to be the bass fiddle player in this band !!!! This guy is rockin'..............What a rthymn group. They sure knew how to do it back then. Long live the '50's music. Of course the disco music was pretty happening to me also. Keep it playing ....
To heck with the "crazy" little women in Kansas City.....Can you believe this great beat ????? I detect a piano and a bass guitar. Man, this is a blast from the past. Daddy-O, this is one groovy tune. Enjoy the ride !!!
fab song yeah the late great Wilbert Harrison.
