Its the 535i gearbox, the auto hesitates off the line, so the power isn't there until you are doing 15-20mph, plus the 335d has more torque at lower rpm, hence the fast start. If it was a race from 50mph to 100mph, the 535i would have won.

335d Touring has 1720 kg, not 1650, and does 0-100 km/h in 6.2 sec not in 5.4 ( i have no ideea where did you pull out that number...), and the 535i F10 has a 0-100 km/h time of 6.1 sec, 6.2 for the automatic, not 5.0 seconds. (what are u ??? nuts ??? the 550i F10 has a 5.0 0-100 time.. not the 535 !!!!!! ). Good race, predictable ending but man.. do get your facts straight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@dracolnyte That's how long it takes to get to a certain speed, not which can cover more distance. The torque of the diesel means it has better low end acceleration. If you looked at a speed vs. time graph of the two, the diesel would have a steeper slope at the beginning, but a smaller increase in slope later (more linear). The distance covered over a time is the area under the curve, and the steeper initial slope of the diesel would account for the greater total area, but slower 0-100 time.
