  • Born & raised in Brooklyn East New York 1950's. If you know, then you know what I'm talking about. If you don't know, then you just may never know. Thank you Eddie Haskell for helping us relive some of our wonderful memories.

  • This is when good people lived there now is plagued with animals. Totally destroyed. It sickens me. Its an eyes sore. 1 example, 3 new Affordable houses were built across the street from Sethlow houses. Actually very Pretty houses. Well i will leave the rest up toyou to figure out what happened to those houses. At one point i was offended at the word regentrification, but now that i have gotten older, im not because i understand why. My people embarrass me !!!

  • Question

As I wrote in my first comment, the area was going down by the time that my family moved in. We, luckily lived in a very quiet part of ENY.

Does anyone know HOW or WHY the neighborhood feel into decline?

    EV

  • I grew up in ENY in the 50's and 60's. Lived on Georgia Ave., Hinsdale St. and Vermont St. Bought pickles from the barrel at Benny's on Blake Ave. Went to P.S. 174. Bought ice cream cones with sprinkles for 12 cents from Adel's candy store on the corner. My mother worked at Fortunoff's. Went to the Biltmore on New Lots and ate upstairs at the Red Star chinese restaurant on Sutter Ave. I thank God every day that I was born in Brooklyn. Sad ENY was destroyed and only exists in my memories.

  • on the map in beginning, they don't include cypress hills and city line as ENY, as it should.

  • ENY was never a great neighborhood. It was the home to Murder Inc. in the 30's and now has one of the highest murder rates. It was a working class neighborhood during the 50's, 60's but in just a few years became a slum.

  • @ralvin31 Brownsville was home to Murder Inc.

  • East New York changed dramatically since I lived there back in the 60s and 70s.

  • nice to see how ENY looked in the past. Im sure it was better to live here then than now. @ndogg20 your better off staying in L.A. This vid only shows pics but doesnt really let you know how it is out here.

  • I used to live on East New York Ave between Brooklyn Ave. I miss this place so much. Hopeful my old friends remember me. I am the only DEAF in this town. My name is John Falcone. E-mail me at johnfalcone1@gmail.com

  • Starrett City is now referred to as Spring Creek, not Springfield Towers, which is correctly referenced in this video as Meadowood.

  • EAST NEW YORK DONT LOOK LIKE DAT NO MORE WE DESTROYER DIS SHYT SMH..I REMEMBA GOIN 2 THOMAS JEFFERSON 2 BEAT PPL UP

  • @RICODADON08 I HOPE YOU'RE WHERE YOU DESERVE TO BE

  • @RICODADON08 Why would you 1: be proud of destroying a neighbourhood 2: actually type on the internet thus revealing to the world you abominable stupidity? To admit something like that publicly and not even be able to do it legibly, coherently, only shows where you stand in this world vs. other people.

  • Very very inspiring ! Im a Brooklyn born son and now living in L.A. ,this makes me want to come back home !

  • Kishka or kishke refers to various types of sausage or stuffed intestine with a filling made from a combination of meat and meal, often a grain. The dish is popular across Eastern Europe as well as with immigrant communities from those areas.

  • @flortheberg It remember my grandmothers. It was very tasty, especially when it was cooked in real beef casings until it was crispy and real tasty from all the fat. The kishka they sell today is a poor comparison to the real stuff way back then. I don't know if you can even buy real casings now, and if you can, they would probably give you a heart attack within a week. I heard that Polish cooking has a very similar dish.

  • @flortheberg played hoops in brownsvilled boys club on a team with hall of famers the hawk connie hawkins and roger brown

  • Its a shame I can't afford to live where I was born ...

  • @nyricanangel38 U can't afford to live in East New York?

  • Great to see the neighborhood coming back. I graduated from TJHS in 1965 and the area was on the downslide then.

  • cool video ! My Aunt went to High School with Shelly Winters

  • New Yawk in Da House...yay Eddi
