From memory, there was a feud between Chrissy Amphlett (Divinyls), and Chrissy Hinde ( The Pretenders ) at the central coast of NSW - Narara in NSW (Australia), as to who was going to rule this concert.
Chrissy Amphlet and the group ( unconfirmed ), decided not to attend because of the bullshit with the pretenders (or Hinde).
Wouldn't have mattered anyway, Divinyls would have blown em off stage. All they had was 'Brass in pocket' - so......................... What. Amphlet is legend !!
I've always loved this band from day one. Nobody ever heard of them when I listened to them in the early 80's, and people just seem to to know one song from them--which is a huge pity!!!
I Touch Myself was an "Americanization" of the Divinyls....It was and never will be a Diviniyls song (In my humble opinion). Boys in Town and Elsie define the Divinyls and showcase Christina Amphlett's vocals and Mark McEntee's guitar. Mark is forever underated, and Chrissy? FUCK! NO rock babe can touch her.
Now thats a damn good performance...what a underated band, these guys are professional musicians that reproduce their studio work in a live venue with precision and tons of raw power...Chrissy Amphlett is an amazing front woman
This music holds up astonishingly well considering it's from 25 years ago. To put that time frame into perspective, at the time this music was made if folks had been listening to music from 25 years prior they'd have been listening to music from 1959!
Divinyls captured right here should has recieved the rave attention that the song "I Touch Myself" did some years later. There were no bands that came close to this. Glad its here
Here in the US if you can find people who are familiar with the Divinyls at all it's likely the only song they'll know is "I Touch Myself." What a shame. Maybe some of the videos floating around on YouTube such as this one will introduce them to a much broader portrait of the band. True originals.
i fell in love with the Divinyls from their first album. the kids around me either didn't know who they were or derided them as some obscure nobody band. They had NO IDEA what they were missing...
i'll bet there are more americans who know divinyls songs other than "i touch myself" than in just about any other country outside of australia and new zealand. so you can make that statement about virtually every other country in the world...they simply were an underground band, whose music, to a significant degree, had to be sought out. i'm american, and i was into them from '83 on, and i knew others here who were too.
If I tried to headbang like Crissy my head would snap off and fly across the room
