23. Why is the Edge slamming his guitar to the ground at the end of "Gone" during the June 2001, Elevation Boston DVD?
During a web chat The Edge answered this question from a fan by saying "Because we murdered the song."
That night in Boston it was evident that The Edge was having trouble with his guitar. From the perspective of being in the crowd in the heart it appeared that The Edge was unhappy with Larry ending the song earlier than The Edge had planned. After t ............
Wow, I'm very surprised at The Edge having a bitch fit at the end, would never expect that, and he even kicked the guitar in sync with final oomph from the bass and drums, bravo. Edge, it's just a song. I thought you'd be 'over it' in putting on displays like that, 20+ years in.
no no he smashed the guitar from frustation because he felt the band messed up in the percussion riff!!!if the video would have been left completely,u would have seen he smashed the guitar and yelled to larry!ok?
The hissy fit came about because he was mad at his guitar (I forget exactly why -- either he had a busted string or he just couldn't get it tuned right, I can't remember). If you notice closely, he actually plays two different guitars in the video. One is a red Rickenbacker, the other is black. The red one is the one that he got mad at. The video is actually from two nights spliced together. I would imagine the sound probably comes from the night that the guitar wasn't giving him problems.
That what I've heard. I guess the band decided to put the kicking scene because it looked cool. I'm a big fan, but hate that they splice different performances together. But a lot of bands do it.
@apoed : DUDE you couldn't be more wrong I think you may need to get your eyes checked the so called 'red' rickenbacker is actually the stage lights reflecting off the guitar!!! I've read that he plays a 1958 Rickenbacker and Red wasn't available the 50s : ) Perhaps edge got carried away with the emotion of the gig!!!
@apoed Plus, he was unhappy that Larry ended it earlier than usual. A fan actually asked him why he did that and he said, "Because we murdered the song."
Oh, dear...this was the one where Edge lost his temper. I think it had something to do with Larry not easing up on the drums even though Edge signaled to him to do so.
Great and extraordinary performing of this song... incredible EDGE! I really love him :)

After the incident with the guitar The Edge could be seen having words with Larry over at the drum kit. [M2, AS]

@lm035 Dude - it's not just the colours, they're both Rickenbackers but they are different models.

Incredible..I just looked up this video to find out why the edge threw a bitch fit. Did they ever talk about it on a video or interview. Funny.

"Bitch fit" ha, ha, an amusing choice of words :) Throwing a fit though, so unlike Edge. Did you ever find out why he did it?

Wasnt this a tribute to Irish rock music journo Bill Graham? I had forgotten about it.
