  • u need some synth..

  • Great stuff. Ignore any pedants unless you actually _are_ Chris.

  • what do u play during second bridge?

  • how do you record your guitar song?

  • what type of bass is that?

  • Nice cover! I will give you a tip! Chris plays everything one octave higher and puts an octaver effect, so he has a more fat and bright sound at the same time! you can see it in my channel if you want! great cover! im looking foward to get that muff soon!

  • LOL I have that bass :)

  • Play this on lower 2 strings and put octaver 1 octave down, distortion is great. it will give you better tone

  • effects sound dope

  • Thank for the vid...bought a bass few days ago first tune I try to learn

  • i thought it was 4 bars untill the piano came in

  • Please check out my bass cover of this song! :D

  • What pedal did u use... Was it synth? What was it's setting?

  • @weilim10 I think it's overdrive. I play it with Overdrive, too, but you also can use Synths or else.

  • What effects do you use?

  • @MrMusicfan007 and everyone else that's been asking about the effects... check my Uploader Comments.

  • @crunchytheory OK THX

  • @crunchytheory edited the description to include the answer to your question. Sorry about that, dude!

  • I has that bass :)

  • is there an effect on this?

my friend would like me to cover it - i haven't started learning it yet...but i'd like to know for before i make the video in a few weeks

  • I don't like your bass sound but I guess this is because of the mic of your cam

  • Bonne vidéo. :)

  • great playing! You need a bit more practice though... but still AWSOME job :)

  • how do u get ur bass to sound like dat sry im a begginer lol

  • wat type of guitar u using

  • that's bass guitar,

  • @TheAAMJR know i meant wat type of bass

  • ah ok, i'm not sure but maybe it's Fender Mark Hoppus Bass,

  • I have the same BASS! =D

  • kewl! XD........

  • at the end of the verse riff it goes A------6--7--9----- really good cover btw :)

  • WHAT DISTORTION IS??PLEASE ANSWER

  • @ivanstroke its an effect you get on a guitar amp, it makes the sound more electronic

  • You play good, but the tabs in the verse is a little wrong

  • way too much gain, even if it is muse. not bad thou

  • what's your gear? btw too much gain

  • Very Good :D

if something is missing i would say..

more SPIRIT, theres never enough and you dont seem to be enjoying it too much n_n´

  • way too much distortion

  • Where did you get the tabs btw my screen name is Roy1880 Ty

  • Nice playing but the sound SUUUUUUUUUUUCKS

  • is this song easy?

  • I'm pretty sure, that on the verse, when you do the 6,7,8 on the frets, its actually 6,7,9.

  • you are correct, he's flat on the last note in that riff

  • yeah your correct.

  • @engadgetier Your right!

  • @engadgetier Yupp, you are entirely correct my friend! Other than that small detail, good cover!:)

  • @engadgetier it is

  • @engadgetier You're right!

  • it's a benson, presuming as i bought one, they aren't at all bad and are rather cheap, type it in on ebay and you can find them. Nice cover too! ;]

  • i want that bass what make is it

  • what are setting are you on?

  • Woohoo!

    This is awesome!

I hadn't heard this song in a very long time, and I enjoyed very much listening to and watching you play! Nice job! Keep it up! How long had you been playing when you made this cover?!

  • If you watch this clip from the Abbey Road session, you can see he's actually playing on the D string instead of the A string. I haven't tried this myself yet - I'm pretty sure it won't sound right without an octaver, as I said earlier

  • Petervite is right, you need to be playing F# instead of F.

KosmicFlux - I've been trying to study how Chris plays this - unfortunately, even his bass playing skills can't get the bass player more camera time. From the videos I've seen, it looks like he would play it sliding up to the 11th fret, and that sounds more appropriate. I say "would" because I'm pretty sure he plays it higher up and uses an octaver to drop the pitch.

  • As for the "Pick vs Fingers" debate I personally think that many people use a pick because it's easier to learn, then they get used to it and find it easier to just keep using it.

I'm converting the bass from guitar and using a pick would definitely be easier, but I want to learn to play bass how it should be played so I'm gonna put in the extra effort. It'll be worth it in the end!

  • it makes my fingers bleed with out a pick

    or blisters

  • @magicgd make sure to take breaks and those blisters will turn to calices. Believe me, using your fingers gives an entirely different sound.

  • @magicgd it will at beginners stage

  • @KosmicFlux Just remember that picks are used for a different sound, and should still be used when the time calls for it.

  • Hey Man, nice job. You could save yourself a bit of effort by using the D string on fret 6 instead of sliding up to fret 11. I'm not sure how Chris does it but I guess it depends on what tone you prefer.

  • I love this song

  • great sound

  • good job

  • there is so much more you can do with your fingers. a pick is just a substitute for acquiring skill.

people might argue that "the best players use both", but how many people do you see constantly switching back and forth?

  • D# E "F"? F?

    D# E F# x)

  • I like it

  • so how do u make it sound like that.. what distortion or whatev

  • bad right hand technique but otherwise excellent

  • one should try to be good at both using a pick (plectrum) and also in using fingers but playing with fingers would allow quicker playing..whilst the picking allows thicker punchy tones

  • i dont agree that finger "picking" is faster than using a plectrum, i would of thought its the other way round?? duno correct me if im wrong :)

  • well im not sure about that maybe its personal preference in picking.. sometimes one can pick really fast with a plectrum sometimes the other way around but most players who play fast that i know of are finger players

  • thts okay then cheers mate

  • fingers go much faster. listen to victor wooten, or steve harris, or even the flea. you can go MUCH faster with fingers.

  • for a bass i would have thought finger picking was faster, unless u used a thin plectrum but u cant really cause its a bass

  • This completely depends on which technique you train. When playing with a pick it's easier to play fast, but you can go just as fast with picking.

  • love it man!!!!

  • if you use an octave pedal this cover would sound amazing

  • Ive been playing electric for years and got a bass today and should I be using my fingers instead of a plectrum? I can't really see the difference and Im much quicker and accurate with a plectrum so should I continue using it? Awesome cover btw (Y)

  • Use what eer is more confortable. Pick or fingers are just two different techniques - like the different ways u can hold a pick when playing guitar/bass. Some songs may sound better with one or the other but as long as your playing it and enjoying it it doesnt really matter. use what you want and feel better with regardlesss of what any one says :)

  • i use both but people tend to yell at u if u use a plectrum

  • using a pick to play bass is blasphemous :P

  • Tell that to Chris Squire

  • if Chris Squire was a good bassist, he wouldnt need a pick. plus picks give the bass a different sound. basses sound much smoother when played with the fingers.

  • Have you ever actually heard Chris Squire play?

  • yes i have.

  • It's just what sound you prefer.

You don't play bass to play with the right technique, you play bass to produce a cool sound. Doesn't matter if it's with a pick or with your fingers.

And as you might have noticed, this song doesn't have a smooth bass line. I think it sounds better when you play this song with a pick, and put some overdrive on top of it. Just to get that raw bass sound!

  • what kind of pedal are you using?

  • yo tengo ese bajoo :D

  • dude im new at bass so can you send me the tabs please?

  • (You could tab it from this I'd say.)

  • great sound and great cover... ive been playin bass for some time now...(about an year).. just wanted to tell u that he originaly plays a bit lower..i mean on the 14,16,13 fret... same stuff only bit lower..and gives some kind ofa better sound..i mean closer sound to what he plays :)) nice cover thou:)

  • don't you meann higher up the neck? lower is towards the machine heads not the pickups. and the only way u can realy play staright around the 14,16,13 is by using an octave pedal. which from the floors of it the player doens't have.

  • That looks a lot like my guitar, only mine is red with white scratchboard

  • lol. its a fender p-bass. like half the world owns that style bass, silly.

  • "I'm using a Squier Vintage-Modified Precision Bass" its not a fender p-bass

  • really good cover :) i noticed you stretch out your fingers a lot when playing, it helps to try to keep them as close to the fretboard as possible though, it increases your accuracy ten fold. And, speed is a by product of accuracy so in turn you get alot faster as well :)

  • well it's not really a fast, intricate song lol

  • thank you for the lesson! now, I know play this song!! I don't speak very well English because I'm spanish...byee!

  • dammit!!! cool sound man!!! my bass does not sound like dat... do i need to use a distortion or metalzone to make the sound like that???

  • Thanks for the feedback, guys! I've been meaning to update this vid for awhile - yeah, the transitioning could be wayy better! I'm using a Squier Vintage-Modified Precision Bass (great bass for the price) and a Big Muff pedal for fuzz distortion.

  • nice cover... i can play the same song but i jst put overdrive on... sounds good enough. was gd enough for me but id say try and make your changes onto the 'A' string quieter. apart from that gd work

  • nice cover dude if i was gunna criticize u (which really you were amazing) i would say your transaction -changing string goes off a bit durring the song so you can make it a smoother change

  • very nice, love the sound, but you said any tips so ill give my 2 cents i noticed, from what i saw you played it spot on, except i BELIEVE, not 100% but probabally 90%, that the main riff, at the end of it, it goes (on the A string) it goes 7, 6, 7, 9, not 7, 6, 7, 8. I hope that makes sense, and if im wrong, sorry but i think thats right, keep it up :)

  • thanks for this vid

    very good, will help me

  • what pedal u using??

  • hey is that a squuier fender presicion bass cuz i think i hav one:) good playing

  • nice job...effects? fuzz and octave?

  • this song on bass rocks.

  • How did u learn that song?

I'm trying to find out how to play it on bass.

  • Try to learn it by ear, it'll be worth it in the end - trust me! It's pretty simple to isolate the notes in this song, so just match up each note on your bass with the one you're hearing in the song.

  • if you know how to read tabs, id gladly give you some, or if you dont know how id gladly teach you how to read em :P

  • by ear!! it's too simple! by the way, this music is simple to play and to find each instrument part! the only difficulty was to to create it! xD

  • nice!

i wish i had the pateince to learn a damn song lol

  • That was nice

dont know how you could improve on it though sounds perfect

  • Hey :) you have to play with an octave down on D and G strings !

Otherwise it's great :) come see mine :)

  • yep, it's played on D & G strings with octve down and fuzz.

  • Hi! I am trying to figure that out! Are you sure about that??

  • Why did you guys thumb this guy down hes right! Watch the Official video and you will see.

  • You need to learn about the basslines my friend; it is not in the same position as Chris Wolstenholme plays it!

People only learn what is correct from knowing where they are going wrong.
