  • Your espresso maker sounds weird o_O

  • Just about a perfect pull....looks delicious

  • Beautiful.

  • THis is so sexy. :)

  • Great video!

Just curious, are you using a flat tamper?

  • Hey Tim, was that a 20oz eXpresso Venti like they do at Charbux? That pour was streaming! ... just kidding! :)

@Mikele & Liquidfire: The extraction was 50 seconds. This is an E-61 grouphead machine. Look at the lever on the right of the portafilter. He lifts it at 2sec and lowers it at 52sec.

It's a nice looking extraction. It's a sign of a good grinder. How many oz espresso did you produce there, Tim?

  • SICK PULL MAN!

  • Pure love right there. Was great to watch.

  • Because it's not possible that he purposefully ran the shot too long for the purpose of showing everyone how awesome the naked filters are?

  • I wish i could just have this running directly into my mouth. Wow I freaking love naked portafilters

  • your shot time was way too long....

  • waaay too fast!

  • Well..I'm not a barista..but even if you did over extract as a few mentioned...I bet the coffee from those final 10 seconds still tasted great.

  • WAY over extracted! what happened thee intelli???

  • Isnt's espresso extraction should be between 25 to 27 sec? You went for 35-36 sec. And it should be stopped right at uniform pale blond which is a signal to end the pour. And I think you made it overly-blond portion of an espresso. Maybe I am mistaken but this is just my observation.

  • @Mikele33 Not necessarily 25-27. Sometimes you can go 35-40. That depends on the beans. Just as a matter of fact I have bought 1/2 pound of freshly roasted (4 days ago) two days ago from Blue Bottle Coffee Roasters (Hayes Valley Espresso) and the little note that comes with it says (I'm quoting): "Boiler temp: 203. Dose: 21g in double basket. Extraction time: Leisurely 35 seconds. Yield: Scant 1.5 oz". At home, 35-40 seconds works best for me with this roast. 25 sec did not do well.

  • nice shot but how can you listen to this crappi music while drinking an espresso`?

  • my god was that a 1 minute shot i couldnt tell the numbers on the pressure meter...

  • beautiful pull indeed....however, since we can't tell when you start the pull, i'm estimating it to be about 40 second shot. a bit long, fellow, because i started noticing white coming out which is a sign for when to stop the extraction.

i want to get a bottomless portafilter so bad!

  • Tim,

This is a beautiful pull. I'm still trying to get something like that!

I'm brand new to HX and have been experimenting with tamp and distribution (wdt with a funnel, nesw, etc) and found my best "technique" was very slight overdose right into the basket, quick finger level and tamp. Yum.

I have an andreja and vario.

  • Nice pull. :) Noticed you lived in central Illinois. Black cat & Metropolis available out there? Or do you mail order? Just curious.

  • All my coffee is mail order, thanks for the comments!

  • Has anyone researched the effect of rock music on shot extraction?

I smell a research grant right there

  • great video. great extraction. agreed the grind could be a tad tighter but still it seemed to pour for days. what is blonding lol;) good job!
