well i understand blocking off a tunnel because its about to cave in, but this tunnel was obviously sound, so it puzzles me why they are destroying it. there was nothing dangerous in that tunnel, and i would be so proud of myself after walking 2.5 miles to the end and back.
The end was blocked off because the mine at the top is owned by a document storage facility. Some 'urban explorer's' wanted to explore a bit too much. The company was tolerant with us when we spent several months digging into a hidden section of the mine, as we didn't attempt to break into their part. The urban explorers did try and break in. They had no choice but to seal it off for good.
I got a big flash, but no fire fly, I have to press both at same time, which means I can't do any arty shots, with the light coming from futher down the tunnel or whatever. I like using a torch as lighting, adds a creepy feel to it.
Looks as if people have done some bad graffeti in there! nice convayer balts as well. Whay can't I get a flashgun like that, I have to press the flash and the camera at exactly the same time, which is time consuming...
The camera is a £40 vivitar crap thing, the flash has a fire fly sensor on it. When camera flash goes, then the flash gun goes at the same time. The equivelent flash and sensor would set you back approx £200

The top end is severely blocked off last time I looked, and they are developing the bottom end.
Last I heard, but have not seen for myself, is that they have dug out part of the tunnel near the bottom.

What do you mean by lost?Did they fill in the end, put a door at the end, or destroy the whole tunnel?

Awesome shots! I just love abandoned history, thank god there are those who photograph and preserve it along the way.

No its an ammo transport and at the end connects to a larger tunnel there is a few tunnels in that area.
gregsgroup 4 years ago
I can confirm that it connects to no other tunnel. It does connect to an abandoned ammo storage, and some old workings. No other tunnels.

I am thinking of re-making this now that I have a better camera.

Hi Clunk?? Nice pics there, is it a limestone or chalk mine?
AskSOmeoneelse 4 years ago
neither. At the top of the tunnel is bathstone, at the bottom is a railway siding.
