The reason it doesn't make sense to some people (in my opinion) is because it was designed to be abstract by nature, with simplistic backgrounds conveying more than complex ones. The different frames provide a third point of view on the situation, and such as the frames for those past flashbacks, make it even more dramatic (or funny) in a way. Bakemonogatari just requires you to think outside the box. :) (again, just my opinion on things, not to be taken as fact)

Probably one of the strangest anime's that I've seen... its kind of like what happened at the last couple episodes of Evangelion where they basically ran out of money or something. It is from SHAFT, which also made Mario-Holic and Sayonara Setsubou-sensei. In the latest season (2010 4th season) it made Sore demo machi wa mawatteru and Arakawa under the Bridge.

The style of Bakemonogatari is almost one of its kind. Very unique, though I see some similarity with Setsubou-sensei in terms of its use of kanji characters in animation and some 2D montage motion. Btw I enjoy maria-holic a lot (esp its OP/ED) and I think Soredemo has one of the best art quality among anime in this season (and its ED is so enjoyable)
