Well done! You're vibrato is a little too fast, and the rhythm was slightly off. But the sound quality of the bass is amazing! Great job! I'm doing this solo for a tryout and (you sound better than I do), so keep working at the bass!
Nice! I'm learning this piece along with my whole section(at Allatoona High School), and it really helps to hear a recording of it thats not extreeemely fast. I know this vid was posted a while ago, but still, thanks for putting this on Youtube.
I am practicing this piece for my upcoming Ensemble. are their any techniques / modification other than stranded scale work required? Ive managed to make it past the first few lines. I am intrigued by the use of similar finger patters that remain the same no matter the position. its truely a great piece. the one i played previous was a German opera known as Die Meistersinger. that piece was not nearly as challenging, but still had a nice marcato to it.
Your tempo was good, but you should consider dynamics more. Articulate your bows on the right notes. Next time, use sheet music, it will help your intonation. A tip for sounding less slurry, is to tighten your bow. The best bass bow tension is when you can just barely touch the wood to the hairs. Really watch your tuning in the higher positions. Some of the arpeggios were very good though.
wow!! Very good ^_^ my private teacher is having me learn it at the moment and listening to you has really helped (having major issues thus far ^_^;) How long have you been playing the bass??? do you have a private teacher??
hi marina good performance and just a question,is that the only movement you have to do for the n8 grade of double bass or there are more of this concert to do? . thanks
I decided to take on learning this concerto, but i noticed that there are multiple versions of the score... do you know which one you used? (Baines, Steven Schaffner, etc)
I admire you playing! Intonation is very bad but you are a great example. You seem to be more sharp than flat.....I think your articulation could be better. However considering everything I proud to call you a fellow bassist :)
overall its pretty good. a couple things though. loosen up the deth grip on your bow and try to relax your wrist. focus on that first. then you should try to play more on your finger tips. you will see a drastic improvement in your intonation. then lastly try to shorten the 8th notes in the opening passage it seemed too "lazy."it will makr the piece more energetic and fun to listen to. not to say it wasnt fun to listen to already.
This is a song I'm working on, but haven't performed. I wish more people did the second and third movements tough. It was a really good performance. Good intonation for the most part. You could try using harmonic G instead of fingering it. You could get a lot more sound with such a big bass. And the first note you play, that C needs a much stronger attack, it makes a better first impression. You also tend to play straight eigth notes on some parts that should be dotted eigth note and sixteenth.
I agree with Sam. Also, after the 18 measures of rest where you come up to the part the A-Gsharp slur in 16th notes, you start rushing your 8th notes. At least, they seem faster than your earlier 8th notes. I could be wrong.
Still, you video is a wonderful example for those who are learning this song. Good sound quality, good performance.
Try flexing your fingers and wrist on your right hand more when you do those eighth and sixteenth notes also, your bow hair looks really loose. If you do that you will sound better than you do. Not that you sound bad. I love the way this rendition sounds.

that's nice, but you have way too much to practice, the rythm is wrong, and watch your affination. Practice, you almost play it good

There are many different ways of interptreting music fomr all eras so I'm not sure we can really say what is right or wrong.

Nicely done. Unless my ear is going bad, i don't hear any intonation problems, other than in one or two small spots -- easily fixed.

you're playing it wrong. it's during baroque period ... you're supposed to play shorter. but overall... good job.

Umm.. you did not play the correct rythyms at the beggining. Otherwise, nice. I've played this piece too. It's one of my favorites.

This is good.
I found the sheet music to this on some website, and was having trouble with the rythym.
It always helps to hear someone else play something.

you're welcome. just remember your right hand should have bent knuckles instead of stiff and it will fall into place.
