@caulfieldrye not greeco roman ! they have stole wrestling of Etruscan people. Etruscan werent indo-iranic (europeans) people . etruscans were asiatic people . cuz of that they had also wrestling. all atlaic people have wrestling ( japanese,türks, mongols, tungus ) .
I'm the varsity 189 pounder at my school for wrestling. Although this is very interesting, the wrestling is very sloppy. Is it against the rules in this sport to shoot takedowns?
are less interested in technique or clever holds than in endurance. The sport evolved as a means of preparing the wrestler for actual combat. Thus more "anything goes" than freestyle or greco.
The competition is a "time honored cover story". The inside social track of this is an opportunity for guys to hook up with other guys in "friendships with benefits". The dynamics of these male-bonds are obscured by the unrelated icons & stereotypes of the so-called "gay-male community". Most of the athletes would outright reject any association with such gender-bent stereotyped decadence. These intense male friendships are "g0y". G00GLE g0ys -spelled w. a zer0 to discover the major differences.
Thank you dsm for all the information. I was deeply impressed by the yagli guresh at Kirkpinar two years ago. I've found some fights so cruel and that made me think about the history of Ottoman Empire. I mean - nothing bad - just as a costant tendency of masculinity domination in the way of thinking...
With so many matches going on, there are bound to be a few dirty fighters who want to slap their opponents around. What's amazes me (after filming twelve annual tournaments) is the high level of sportsmanship in general and the absence of fouls despite the freedom to "invade" the opponent's kispet.
Are you sure? I don't think Arabs have such rituals. These must have been already ancient at the advent of Islam. They must come straight from Central Asia.

This style of wrestling is really interesting. I noticed that a lot of the Turkish wrestlers have well developed upper bodies from regular wrestling practice. They also are not afraid to show them off by competing barechested, unlike the USA, where we have hangups about no shirts.
Thanks for posting. Nice video; their style is very different from American folkstyle. Do they win just by getting the turn and exposing their opponent's back?
That is one way to win, yes, by exposing your opponent's navel to the sky, but there are these other ways: by lifting him compleely off the ground and walking five paces; by making him submit from exhaustion; by the "suffocation" pin and then turning him over; by yanking his kispet below his butt; by a "sudden death" overtime; by referee's call due to poor sportsmanship.
I think by yanking your opponent's kispet below his butt is probably the best way to win. I would definitely yank my opponent's kispet all the way down to his ankle.
@wrestlerwayne Yes, turning your opponent onto his back is the way to victory. The wrestler does not have to get the other guy in a pinning hold to win, as in other styles of wrestling.
there are griping bags inside the pants wrestler can try to use those to unbalance their opponent.

why do they put there hands in each others pants?
Justmylukc 1 year ago
With so many great looking bare-chested wrestlers on the field, it must often be difficult to decide which match to choose for filming!

Tackling is permitted, but seldom used. Turks
are less interested in technique or clever holds than in endurance. The sport evolved as a means of preparing the wrestler for actual combat. Thus more "anything goes" than freestyle or greco.

I will be going to next years event, can anyone let me know how close i can get to these guys? They are true muscle Gods.
Portlaoise50 2 years ago
The grandstands surround the entire field.
Unless you are a member of the press with a
field pass, you'd be smart to bring field glasses.

@dsm1492 Hi i bought a press pass in stambul. It worked thank you for your advice

Hi - what does the dancing at the beginning of every fight mean?
I think they are modern gladiators!
flordeamor 2 years ago
It's based on Islamic ritual, a kind of "vision quest" while each man prepares to confront
his adversary. Each time they meet there is
another ritual, then the last time they shake
hands and wrestle.

Qcumber 2 years ago
This is a ritual of the warrior's quest.
They "wander" in search of the (pre-assigned)
opponent, they greet in the field three separate
times with different symbolic gestures, then
the fourth time they shake hands and lock up.
