The string from it's head it to keep it standing up when you are pulling it. Originally the string was on the the loop thing you pointed out but the slinky dog would fall from poor balanced something...

I bought a slinky dog when I went to Disney world before toystory 3 came out and it had all the info about it on the box.

I bought the original 1950s version of this toy, but I saw that they're both very similar. Here's my question: Did you ever cut off that string in the middle of his face? If so, did you do anything about the hole? Like you, I'm not entirely happy with that part because Slinky walks just fine if you tie it to that loop on his chest.

Nevertheless, I agree. It's great nostalgic fun.

I mean, the only reason I'd keep the string is for selling it years later when it becomes a rare item. People will want the string there if they were to buy it off someone.
