Wow, this looks promising. Doesn't look like this product is getting a lot of attention on Amazon (hope it's doing better through their site ;) ) but after seeing this video directly from you guys I sure would buy it! (If I needed it, that is)
What if I were to buy this as a gift for my adopted son? He is called Shin-Yu, who I adopted over the internet. Apparently he looks just like me, and people often mistake him as a biological son of mine, haha.
Shin-Yu lacks opposable thumbs, would installation be a problem for him? He is also not very intelligent, although he does eat a lot of bamboo. Does this drain battery power much? His reserve does not have many power sockets. Also, will there be an issue shipping this to China?
@tHickman95 The lack of opposable thumbs is generally compensated by added dexterity in other limbs or appendages, so I don't expect that will be an issue.
@tHickman95 Battery drain is minimal, since the adapter can draw all of its power from a single USB port on the computer, and the extra cable provides greater flexibility in the placement of the second monitor, which might be important to your adopted son.
@tHickman95 I am sorry but we do not suggest the Minideck to be used by Cyborg Panda Robots. However if it was well trained then it should be rather easy to have setup but we would suggest using caution as it may use it to more efficiently plan its world domination.
The first comparison is meaningless, because you won't plug and unplug a video card every day. By the way, you should demo the performance of playing video films on every monitor. You may find the bandwidth bottleneck..
If i wanted to improve the video card in my laptop, would this help me? because the one that i have right now is built into the main board of my laptop and cannot be replaced
@SkU1Z No, this is just to get an additional video output, this does not enhance or increase your video capacity , in order to do that you would need to get a Express Card adapter like the "ViDock" to improve the video card in your laptop.
@LifeonRice1 You can use the USB attached display as your primary display, however it still requires that you have a working graphics card on the computer. The USB display adapter works in conjunction with your internal graphics processor. Also, remember that since this is software driven, you will not see any of the startup information until the operating system loads.
CONS: Since it uses USB mini, the jack sometimes falls out which is annoying. Full screen video is not watchable, as it has too much lag and frame dropping, however, this is really not what it is intended for. Also lack of Linux support is a little annoying as Ubuntu rocks. For some reason, my monitor won't go into sleep mode when connected to the device, so it wastes a lot of power unless I remember to turn it off.
Overall, I defined recommend buying one of these as it has come in very handy.
I've got one and they are great for some things, not so great for others.
PROS: Only way to get dual external monitors for your Mac mini or macbook laptop. Great for coding html, webpages, email, IM small video windows such as sling player or flash. Also this device can be a lifesaver when trying to setup LCD or plasma TVs, use it temperately in mirror mode while configuring your TV on your computer since the TV won't show anything on the screen if it's not setup just right.
What the hell are you talking about "laptops can't fit an extra pci card in them" Well moron, then how come every single laptop I have ever came across has just that! You say they don't, but they do. LIAR!!!
@jm07gi Laptops have mini PCI slots, that are used for WiFi and bluetooth modules, but not for video outputs. Some laptops do come with swappable discrete graphics cards. Most laptops now have ExpressCard slots (which replaced the old PCMCIA) but video cards for those slots are rare and expensive. While there are options, we have found that the USB is the simplest.
@sewelldirect my laptop has TWO video cards in it, one for VGA and the other for DVI. I can connect two external monitors to my loptop. How do you explain that then? I have two video cards built in.
@rydewnd2: "Plug-and-play" means that the operating system will configure the device, not that the device doesn't need drivers.
All devices require drivers. If you don't have to install the driver yourself it just means that the operating system already has one that is suitable for the device.
for a desktop with a gfx card that has both a vga and dvi output, could you just hook one monitor up to the tower through vga, and the other through dvi and use dual monitors that way?
@noestabien because you can't have mre than 2 displays with one graphics card using the way you described.... but on the other hand..using the method on the video you can have as many sisplays as you want.....
i've got 1 of these :), I got my center and right monitor thorugh My Nivida Ge-Force 6200 ( i know, iknow it's bad but i'll get a new one soon!!!) and my left monitor thorugh a USB to vga video card, only thing is you can't play full screen games with it (liek going to 3078 X 1024 :( but it's still gd :)
The 2nd DEMO was cool!! It looks like your in an CSI or watever scifi room! just put it in a Nice room and tada you have your instant set!! ready for Shooting!!!

@tHickman95 Thank you for your interest. This adapter is bamboo compatible, as you can see from the two small bamboo shoots on the desk in the video.

If my onboard video card is dead will this unit be able to function as my main gpu?
matsutakneatche 2 years ago
Not entirely.
Apparently too much lag in full screen video. From reviews it seems to work great with text-based apps, though.
Maybe with usb 3.0...
banarelo 2 years ago
@matsutakneatche Unfortunately no. This works in conjuction with your primary graphics controller and will not work as the only GPU

LMFAO "Once you install the driver it's literally plug-and-play" Plug and play means you don't have to install a driver.

How they built this without knowing how to shut down a computer, or at least to get to the prompt within 5 seconds, I will never know.
