  • I just cant hear it any other way than this....the other versions, plain SUCK!

  • I was so blown away the first time I heard Randy on the radio. I owned Blizzard on vinyl two hours later. When Diary came out, I was floored. I owned it as soon as the record store opened.

I was numb with disbelief the morning I turned on the radio to get ready for work when they announced that "guitar virtuoso Randy Rhoads was killed today in a plane crash".

Sharon Osbourne is such a money grubbing hag for tinkering with and withholding 2 historic masterpieces.

  • Thanks for the history lesson for those too young to remember when this album was released. You know your stuff and I'm old enough to remember when they were originally released and I had them both on vinyl and cassette.

  • Thanks for the history's

  • Song brings back bad memories. Was driving home from dinner with my parents in 1987 , i had this tape on the tape deck while we were driving. A guy came around us about 75 mph, he missed the curve , smashed into a high power pole. Wires fell to the ground , sparks everywhere , ignited the gas spilling out of his truck. We couldn't get to him and he burned up. We were all just standing there outside the car, watching the fire, this song in the background. I will never forget it.

  • I think both versions are equily good but it was cool to learn the intresting fact about the remaster! I have the 1995 album so I had to look for the 2002 to find the difference and like them both the original is the best but the 2002 is good in it's own right! Thanks for the history lesson uploader!

  • These first two albums were magic. I swear, these are amongst the best songs ever in Rock n Roll. The whole band was just incredible. Ozzy's voice is just so cool.

  • Fuck Ozzy and Sharon

The real Geniuses were Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslake

  • @Konstantinoff74 Randy and Ozzy, thats were it's at.

  • There's a real classic piece for ya. Why is Ozzy great? He's one of the nicest, most down to earth people you could ever meet. And I've met many an ego maniac in the bizz. But he's also great with a riff, a lyric, a twist or turn to gain and keep interest. Plus, he's got the Midas touch in attracting talent.

  • Blizzard of OZ / Diary of a Madman

    Best solo OZZY Period-

  • I've listened to the 2002 version: sorry 4 u, but I think that's better than 1995's! Drums and bass (but especially drums) stretched the rythm far away, you can feel yourself lost and assaulted. It's better. Daniele - FIORI DI SANGUE

  • @FIORIDISANGUEband Maybe for this song, but the remaster of Over The Mountain is god awful

  • @FIORIDISANGUEband You are a sorry sad human who cannot differentiate sounds of soul from spiritless drek.

  • I THINK THIS IS THE BEST SONG I"VE EVER HEARD

  • AWESOME SONG!

  • i picked up guitar instantly when i heard this for the 1st time! the other day

  • @Phantasm2Cuda are you stupid???? Diary was realesed after Blizzard!!!

  • @MetallicaA9595 if im so stupid why cant you spell released right?

  • @Phantasm2Cuda Because you are stupid to think Diary came out before Blizzard

  • @MetallicaA9595 you still babbling on?lol

  • @Phantasm2Cuda Yea lol.

  • @Phantasm2Cuda dont reply just accept that your wrong

  • @valerieash yeh dont reply to verbal attacks by someone with no social skills, i get it

  • Masterpiece. That's the only word that is appropriate for this song.

  • @garretsomers they brought the originals back

  • wow still have em on vinal record [lp]

  • Randy's best song. The power of metal, the grace of classical music blended together. There are few guitarists that can pull this off and make it all sounded as awesome as this is. RIP Randy.

  • @joeiliff In my opinion, what "Fractured Mirror" was to Ace Frehley, "Diary of A Madman" was to Randy!

  • who the fuck could possibly dislike this song?

  • I fucking hate it when every time I listen to this song, around the 0:34 mark my pants spontaneously fall off!

  • For the one Dislike BECAUSE FUCK YOU.... if you dislike this song you cant respect music and you have no life and deserve to die single with no kids and lost all for limbs in a train wreck

  • 2:31 to 4:11

Possibly the most BEAUTIFUL musical breakdown known to man, I still get all teary-eyed listening to it...

  • @fraroc I agree! In my opinion, THIS part of the song is so "eerie!" In my opinion, although Bark At The Moon DOES have its moments, I think Ozzy should've retired after releasing "Diary..." In my opinion, "Diary..." would've sold enough, if not MORE THAN ENOUGH, to "live off of." In my opinion, what Back In Black did, and is STILL doing, for AC/DC, "Diary of A Madman" did, and is STILL, doing for Ozzy.

  • Thanks for this post for artistic integrity. It's a great song, in the original form, and should be respected AS IT WAS.

  • @tgm5150 Well, funny you should compare him to Mozart: This song was influenced by a Mozart piece that Randy changed over time.

  • @CloudzProductions Which piece?

  • @CloudzProductions lol, actually its based off of the 1st 16 measures of Cuban guitarist/composer Leo Brouwer's Estudio Sencillo #6, which Randy was learning the morning Ozzy woke up, heard it, and declared that he had to have the passage for a song idea.

I used to know the Brouwer piece, & the 1st time I heard it I was blown away thinkig here was the "Diary" intro!

  • @FortisBong comparable to the likes of Mozart in my opinion, everyone in his league was probably jealous too like they were of Wolfgang.

  • It was never Ozzies band, it just had his name, it was Rhoads band

  • The arraignment of this song is----genius. Beautiful musicianship,Randy dominates with his treasured talent, haunting lyrics and vocals...Ozzy has never really been appreciated for his song writing capabilities.

  • thumbs up if you read the book "I am OZZY"

  • Please check the official Bob Daisley website and read the interview about his relations with the Osbournes, that's the least that you can do.

  • Rhoads (RIP) actually got the intro from a piece that was written by Leo Brouwer, a cuban guitarist. It ('it' being this song) was a variation on study no. 6. If you play and you like this type of guitar style, check out some of his stuff, and remember that RANDY RHOADS WAS AND STILL IS BETTER THAN YOU (I'M TALKING TO YOU, ZAKK)!!!!!1!!1!

  • @tabguy14 Chill out queer. Randy was great, all Zakk did was take up the axe and create and define his own style as a musician. Too many people talk shit about Zakk automatically thinking that Zakk must think he's the greatest, when he came from Randy, one of his big influences. He knows that, he's not trying to be better than Randy. Too many people are up his ass. If you weren't, you'd see that Zakk is great, and Randy was even greater. He just died too soon, and Zakk has been playing forever.

  • @Aic1944 Thank you, finally some one understands.... thats how i feel about eddie van halen... hes great but randy had the classical influeince which makes him the god

  • Thanks for this upload...

  • One person didnt like like this song. WOW! Bet that person dont like self either

  • Great song! Intro is my favourite part.

  • It was Sharon's choice to edit these guys out. She ALWAYS was a ruthless business woman and protected and CONTSTRUCTED Ozzy's wildman, auteur image. Bringing in two unestablished, new musicians is much cheaper than trying to negotiate with the original artists who more than likely own some rights on the original recording and would need to be paid EVENLY. Shame on Ozzy for letting his art be comprimised in such a manner, he's as hypocritical as the crucifix he wears.

  • @Yapostadodat her father was don arden, that should explain the rest...

  • @Yapostadodat well said

  • "Epic" is way overused, but 4:10 - 4:50 is *epic*.

  • Wow, what a wonderful and powerful song. I just love it.

  • Theres so many twisted time signatures in this song. Amazing composition

  • @jtizz711 Ozzy could not get the timing down. He said "who do you think I am, Frank Zappa"

  • @jtizz711 I agree! In my opinion, "Diary of A Madman" IS Ozzy, "The Number of The Beast" IS Iron Maiden, "Screaming For Vengeance" IS Judas Priest, and, "Peace Sells....But Who's Buyin'?" IS Megadeth!

  • i agree! this is the song besides glenn danzigs how the gods kill

  • Being a Musician, Ozzy was a heartless prick tracking over Lee and Bob..No wonder Jake E Lee won't waste his fucking time for what to be Erased?

  • @1980Invasiontour You need to hit up Google and get the correct information before posting. jake E Lee didn't play on this and he was Ozzy's lead guitarist on Bark at the Moon and ultimate Sin. Lee Kerslake played drums and Bob Daisley played bass and were the ones dubbed out over royalties. Which means hen moneys involved it's Sharon not Ozzy making the decisions.

  • @ashevillenchomes I know who Played on Ozzy Osbourne Cd's. Without Bob who he and Lee Co-wrote most of thoes songs, it's not right.

  • @1980Invasiontour I agree and wish Ozzy was still on good terms with Bob. Who played on and wrote all the lyrics for Bark At The Moon, No Rest For The Wicked and The Ultimate Sin.

Sharon is management for Ozzy and on the Bob Daisley wikipedia page it states: "However, the Osbourne management responded to this by deleting the original recordings and re-issuing new CD versions with the bass and drum tracks re-recorded".

  • @ashevillenchomes It is a shame that most people don't know the truth.

  • Happy Birthday Ozzy!!! :o) This is a song of great beauty, can't think of a more fitting one to play for your special day ~I love you!!!

  • I wonder what madness Randy would be weaving for us today were he still alive... what a tragic loss, he'll live forever with this masterpiece

  • They certainly don't make them like this anymore. A true masterpiece.

  • There is just one dislike (at least it was when I wrote this) - because there is just one Justin Beaver

  • @Radufromhere still only 1

  • 1 guy is a madman T_T

  • 1 person is a Justine biber fan

  • @STORMHockey101 hey,quit that

  • Truly awesome production ! The strings and choral scores are the icing on a devastatingly amazing cake !! Peace Ye`all !!

  • @FortisBong Well said mate ! Randy deserves all the praise we can muster !! He still had a hell of a lot to give ! We can only imagine......?

  • one day, ozzy will die. and on that day. he has to take something down with him.

maybe when he dies, we buy as many pop cds as we can, and burn them. could we do it if we spread the word? also, start saving up cuz im gonna do it

  • @halfNERD17 nice, talking about Ozz'y's death.

  • @halfNERD17 ill do it

  • hey man thanks for the heads up in the video description. not a chance i'm touching the '02 versions

  • so fucking greath

  • EPIC.... !

  • @auto4union You said Epic, that's right, and OZZY's record label being Epic,as he has ben on Epic Records for all his 30 year career, listen to The Original DIARY OF A MADMAN LP,it being on Epic Record label,EPIC defines/says it all.

  • BEST OZZY SONG

  • 0:35 to 0:46 is the best guitar lick in any song of any band of all time and most likely will be for the rest of the metal music life

  • @lilmsvenus What about Supernaut?

  • @MeltedButterCorp The beginning of this song was "nicked" from a Leo Broward tune. Randy loved classical guitar and borrowed some of the stuff that he liked to blend into his songs. We all do it as players and he did as well. Just much better than most.

  • @GuerreroGuitar What randy did with those chords sounds 10 times better than the song he nicked it from IMO.

  • its pretty dramatic to stare at your lava lamp while hearing this song, cool! :D

  • i love the ending, its so epic

  • In his autobiography Ozzy claims that he had nothing to do with re-recording the bass and drums and that he didn't feel comfortable at all with it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was telling the truth. Sharon was probably behind that one.

  • One Person Obviously Missed The "Like Button".

  • @MeltedButterCorp hmmm... Ozzy must've been drunk while writing that part.

  • It was this song right hear that made Randy my favorite guitar player back in 1981, God I was devastated when he died. R.I.P. Randy, your still my favorite. Any one else get goose bumps from Randy's playing?

  • @TheScarie yep

  • @TheScarie i get goosebumps every time i hear randy's guitar skills on crazy train and mr. crowley. he died WAY too early. R.I.P. RANDY.

  • fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck i want randy back.

  • Thanks for the post of one of the greatest songs. "Blizzard of Oz" was the ultimate band. Too bad that ex-Uriah Heep members Bob Daisly (who did almost all of the lyrics) and Lee Kerslake, couldnt stay on after Randy died. So much talent.

  • @JoeyPNB - why couldn't they stay?

  • @JoeyPNB Ozzy and Sharon should have kissed the ground Bob walked on.

  • i'd like to point out that Ozzy nicked the intro from Mozart. Ozzy: Randy, what was that you were just playing? Randy: Mozart, why? O: Right, we're nicking it. R: You can't nick Mozart. O: Well i'm sure he won't mind.

  • @DM4717 - LOL! Is that true?

  • @EccentricRichard yep, he put it in his autobiography

  • @DM4717 - really? Because I know Mozart's music fairly well, and I'm not hearing Mozart in it at all. Most people (I think including Randy) say/said it's actually something by Leo Brouwer...

As an aside, isn't it funny how the guitar intro's tone sounds almost exactly like Ozzy's voice?

  • @EccentricRichard ... maybe Randy had the only surviving copy? I don't know, But i Like Beethoven, Metallica, Mozart, Coldplay, and many others... i like a lot of stuff :D

  • The vibe on the solo of this track is really unusual - so eerie. The verse melody too -r eal inventive and interesting guitar playing.

  • Trujillo and Bodin should be shot, it shows incredible bad taste but then Sharon knows plenty about selling out for the yankee dollar!

  • Great song, what a shame that Ozzy had to rerecord the bass/drum parts off of the first two albums.

  • this song is friggin amazing!!!! ozzy wouldnt be the legend he is today without rhandy!!!!!! ENEMIES FILL UP THE PAGES, ARE THEY ME??? MONDAY THRU SUNDAY IN STAGES SET ME FREE!!!!!!!!! F$#@%$# CLASSIC!!!!!!

  • A pity there's still one fucking sad individual in this world of Ozz... \m/

  • If I had a personal theme song, this would be it

  • @DocRavage hehe, stupid

  • This is Randy Rhoads best song Imho.So much depth and feeling. With elements of classical, rock and blues all fused together for a perfect genious blend.....I'm speechless... long live the king of rock R.I.P. Randall Rhoads: )

  • Which version appears on subsequent "Hits" packages like "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne"?

  • @spxmet i cant exactly recall when it came out (the essential ozzy osbourne), but if it was released after 2002, then the remastered version would be whats on the disc

  • @Ilikejohnosbourne The last copyright is 2003, but I also have The Ozzman Cometh, which was released in 1998. Both have identical sounding versions of "Over the Mountain". But who the hell really knows?????

  • Man, when this first came out, it was a automatic "have-to-learn"! There are just so many layers of talent here.

  • 4:17 - One of the best heavy metal riff i've heard.

  • @Konq11 im so with you on that one!

  • @Konq11

Yeah man, just an amazing riff. Doesn't get any better than that.

  • its weird that this is not spoken of today.

  • By far the most epic of all Ozzy's songs. Best part 2:31-4:14 by far!

  • @MrShredtilldead nah man the best bit is 0:00 til 6:17 ;P

  • I've got one person on my to-kill list >:D

  • Buckethead played this song on one of his acoustic solos

  • Sharon " the real iron maiden" Osbourne

she fucks up more than she puts in.

  • had it not been for the late Mr Rhoades, a lot of us would never have been hipped to mr Leo Brouwer. Rhoades adapted 'Estudio No 2' from Bouwers Simple Studies. Rhoades adaptation here is incredible. Brouwer's music & playing = unmatched. God love them both.

  • @ravner1976 Actually, it's the etude no. 6, not the no.2.

  • @Marumistin so right bro, thanx!

  • Is this some kind of Remaster?

  • "Then in 2002, they were released again, only with rerecorded bass and drum parts for some type of legal reason by two totally different musicians." As I hear it, Daisley and Kerslake were complaining about not getting paid their share of royalties, and it was decided by the higher powers that be (read: Sharon) to totally screw them by re-recording with musicians-for-hire, just so the complaints would end.

  • my original is in my computer where it belongs, and i can download it anytime i want. sharon u lose.

  • Great great tune!!..just f**kin awesome!

  • Best Ozzy solo song ever!

  • Glad I bought the older version from my friend used for 5 bucks!

  • 2:12 - 2:31 best part

  • found one on ebay for 11 bucks.

  • iron maiden rules ozzy u know it rip dio

  • PERFECTION !!!

  • Thanks for adding in all these original Ozzy songs. They sound perfect. I just HATE it when good songs by good artists, get remastered to the point of it sounding like crap. This Ozzy collection you've added sounds so awesome, just the way it should sound. Thanks!

  • Played the way it was meant to be heard. Thanks so much for posting this, and all the others...

  • GOOD NEWS!!!! Ozzy is reissuing these two albums later this year with the original bass and drums!

  • Sharon Osbourne's dad was Don Arden, a money-hungry fucking crook record producer/manager. She's a chip off the 'ol block. She got her husband back on his feet and then later pimped him out. A fucking Christmas song with Jessica Simpson? The Prince Of Darkness paired with a pop tart? And then she alters history replacing bass and drum tracks on his early albums. Lee Kerslake took a leave of absence from Uriah Heep to record those drum parts. And the mighty Bob Daisley on bass. Gone.

  • thanks. this is the best!

  • Truly immense song!

  • Any one know any classical guitar player who sound like the intro kinda ?

  • @1234Sebster Leo Broward has a song that Randy actually admired and 'borrowed' part for this intro.

  • @GuerreroGuitar thanks

  • check out ozzie tribute band, they do a pretty good version of this track

  • can anyone help me? every time i try to upload a song to youtube it gets bocked. when i tried to upload Diary Of A Madman it said "This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment. It is no longer available in your country." check out my channel to see what i mean. same thing with another video. i tried to use changes by black sabbath in a video but it did the same thing. its not silenced but blocked. i you know how to fix this then send me a PM or reply to this comment. thank you.

  • @jedisponge16 Your profile says that you live in the U.S. so here's this. Sony Music Entertainment owns the copyrights to Ozzy's material. Usually you can post the Sony material without a problem, but YT may delete it later. Don't bother with early Black Sabbath, because that is owned by Warner Music Group, and they will automatically mute the music. As far as getting around this kind of shit I'm not the expert, but some other people know how to do it.

  • they can re-record it, but they can't change the FACT that BOB DAISLEY wrote most of the lyrics for BOTH the early Ozzy albums. fuck sharon.

  • @roccotanto apparently Daisley wrote alot of songs for Ozzy he just wasnt credited for it....such as the song Shot in the Dark, but there was controversey over it he also wrote songs for No More Tears but the didnt use them

  • @roccotanto true dat.

  • OZZY ROCKS

  • OZZY ROCKS ! HELL NEVER DIE

  • He'll?

  • I knew it,I cant believe they would fuck with Randys actual playing, listen to the remastered one,and hear how the picking is different and the tone is a little off.I love this original one here,Bob lee and Randy rule!!

  • love some OZZY hope he rocks till he cant anymore!!!!!!!

  • i have both of the first 2 albums you can order them on ebay thats what i did. and i have 2 randy rhoads tribute albums 1 of them has the design on the cd (1995 version) and i have the other one whats the difference?

  • I was listening to the shitty overdub they released with the clumsy drum parts and lousy bass, but I also noticed at 4:18 BY THE PICKING AND WEAKNESS IN DYNAMICS.I THINK THEY REPLACED THAT FIRST RYTHMM RIFF BEFORE THE ACTUAL SOLO.

  • @SmittyHeWasNumber1 Just listened to it and I think you're right, there are subtle differences at the very beginning of that solo. The newer versions suck big time

  • @SmittyHeWasNumber1 I guess your talking about the re-issues without Bob and Lee? I have the re-issues with the cover that's pictured above(1995). Luckily the indie store Vintage Vinyl still had them in stock in the backroom, I didn't buy them until they released the Mike and Rob versions. Thank god they didn't send them back like their supposed to. I heard they recalled all unsold 95 versions

  • this is a typical version , FUCK YOU

  • this sound sounds so creepy it scares the shit out of me!!

  • Sharon isn't bad, she was basically treated like shit half of her life and lied to her by mother and father. Don Arden is the real badguy, stealing jewelery, beating up people in public and trying to slander his own daughter.

  • OMG I just listened to this song re-issue, It's horrible, absolute garbage. I'm assuming the whole album is destroyed. I can't believe Ozzy did that, ruined a masterpiece.

  • This song is about working as a sales associate at a retail store

  • @actionsauce5 You can't be serious?

  • @SLAYERMETALLICA357 In retail you have to separate your true feelings and thoughts from your behaviors. For example, if a customer is bombastically obnoxious, you have to act nice to keep your job. This split between feeling and thought from action makes life inauthentic and meaningless. You live as a droid obeying company policy rather than as an integrated, authentic person. This leads to madness. Fuck retail, I say! It's a mental hell!

  • @actionsauce5 No, its about shit Bob Daisley went through when he was younger.

  • @actionsauce5 ''the mirror tells me lies'' :D

  • @actionsauce5 ...noooo it was about oz in jail after bn drunk & fuckin over sharon

  • Thanks fer the info-
