  • Wow they go all out when it comes to cleaning there guns!

  • Does Pitting removing technique effects the thickness / strength and Bore of The barrel ?????

  • @gundabacha11 Generally speaking, pitting removal will not be detrimental to the structural integrity of the barrel however you should always consult with a qualified gunsmith.

  • Will a flex hone work as well?

  • What type of steel are older shotgun barrels commonly made of ?

  • Hey I am 13 and my dad has an old 1950's browning 12 guage automattic and it has a touch of rust on the barrel and on the outside of the chamber how are we to remove this.

    Also on the foregrip where

The shells are stored the is the slightest amount of play when you move it. What is the procedures to fix these problems

  • does this work if there's really deep pitting? my uncle just got an 1880's side by side that's got all the origional parts, it has some deep pitting, and he fears it can't be fired, but if you use this technique can you use low pressure smokeless shotshells like shells with blackpowder substitutes to prevent it from pitting again? or do you have to use just blackpowder shells.

  • I wonder if this also applies to Musket Barrels. it is not exactly pitted, but after years of Service the bright Steel inside has turned to a dark brownish grey.

  • (Part 2 of rifle)Now with the barrel hot put a thin layer of oil in the plug area, place the funnel on the barrel pour the melted lead in the barrel, hurry and put the rod in the lead plug. Hold the rod till the lead gets hard. Now leave it till it cools all the way.Pull out and you have a slug that fits you rifle add the vavle griding compound(this is the same as the stones the higher the number the finer the compound) and start hand lapping the barrel. Push and pull from chamber to muzzle

  • Hi, now let us look at rifles. The best way on a rifle barrel is to hand lap with a lead slug about 1/2 inch long. Things you need (lead, tin solder, melting pot, metal funnel, metal rod, oil, cleaning patchs) Mix the lead with the solder(the amount you will have to work out) in the melting pot and melt it. Take the barrel run hot water(tap water) over it to get it hot but not to hot so the slug will be uniform. Plug the barrel(with the cleaning patch) about 1/2 inch down the barrel from the muzzle.

  • Hi, i have read alot of the posting, let me help ya'll. Larry is doing this the right way this is why. You must in a rotational pattern go from chamber to choke increaseing the finest of the stone ( the higher the number the finer the stone ) till you get a mirrow finsh. One or two strokes with each stone should be enought. If you go long ways without ratation you will lose gas pass the wadding. This will upset the pattern of the shot

  • 1 person from brownells was watching

  • by the way, when you fire corrosive ammo, you must boil the barrels. That is pour boiling, not hot, water down the barrels, then clean them with patches, and oil. If you do not, the acids in the compound will eat the steel. It does not dissolve in oil, only water. Boiling water assures the barrels will get hot enough to evaporate any water left behind by their own heat.. Then use a good quality oil .

  • You have to lap a rifle barrel. This is done with a lead lap, and abrasive compound. There is info on this on line. Or you can Fire Lap the barrel, with light loads and the NECO kit.

Larry Potterfield has done a good job, but a shotgun should always have the abrasive run from back to front, or fron to back. never radially. That increases the roughness in the bore, and destroys patterns. Smoothing longitudinally allows the shot charge to self regulate, and therefore give good patterns.

  • I wanted to find out about pitting on a rifle. I have a Mosin-Nagant and most ammo is corrosive. I'm not seeing a shine like I had been use to seeing with other rifles. Can you help or point me n the right direction.

  • @finoman100

u need to buy a new barrel

  • what about pitted rifles?

  • I'd use a honing machine but this works too.

  • cool

  • NICE
