Well, I guess its not really taller, but I made a scarf the other day and it curved in the center and made like a slight horse shoe. That was 150 dc scarf. And the baby blanket is 90 chains to start with and if I lay it flat the outside edges curve up sorta. Not like really bad though.
I have tried this pattern out, looks good but its not straight across when I lay it flat. Its like taller in the center but if I pull it flat its straight but it wont stay that way. What did I do wrong lol
Thank you so much for this pattern. I have learned so much from your videos. Im self Taught and there was alot i did not know. But you have showed me the WORLD of Crochet. Thank you!.... Im making scarfs from this pattern as gifts. They are turning out great!!!!!
@Canthony12 I carry the rounded shells to the side and blend it all in together. At the corners, you will need to work extra stitches so they do not tug and curl up.
Teresa, I have a question, how do you finish this afghan off? I am almost finished with this pattern, it's for my baby nephew, and I am not sure how to finish it. Could you help?
Thank you for making crocheting easy for someone that's brain dead like me. For many years I tries to read patterns and have failed miserably. I have since learned I am audio/visual and if you tell me what to do and show me how it's done it sticks in my head. I have patients that are going to have their first baby and I am going to crochet them a blanket, thank you!!!
Hi Teresa. I notice that you used a fairly large hook here. Is that just because it's easier to demonstrate and film using a large hook? If so, what size hook would you use to create a blanket for an adult?
@cascadejacques You can use any size hook that fits with the yarn you are using. I recommend a size I-5-5mm -- K-6.5mm or larger. The larger hooks will give your blanket/afghan a looser feel. If you want tighter stitches, use a smaller crochet hook.
I'm new to crochet and your videos are GREAT!!! Very clear explanation and easy to follow even for a beginner like me. Thanks for your great videos ^^
I am a Level 1 beginner, I wish I can do this scarf for myself only with the shell. I wish I can do it. Thanks for explaining everything when you are doing it.
I cant believe I'm able to make it and I didnt know how to do the double crochet before ( I only know single crochet) but after watch this video, I gave myself a chance and I am making it. And I jus started to learn crochet 4 days ago! Thank you so much! I really appreciate your teaching.
I read your instructions. I will chain 225 and start as said in the instruction and the video tutorial. The problem is:
1) In the end you have left many loose string which add beauty to the shawl. Let me know if that is done only after you crochet the entire shawl or done as you crochet each row.
2) I am able to proceed till u have done in the video but doing further is quite difficult for me. Do you have an entire video how to do the entire shawl?
I'm confused as to what happens after the 2 rows of DC. Do you perhaps have the written instructions for the "additional way to work the pattern stitch" as shown in your video, in addition to how the pattern should be followed after that??? I am happy with the way the piece is working up so far, but I hestitate to proceed for fear of doing something wrong. I would appreciate any help you could give me. It's because of you that I have taken up crocheting again. Thank you!
I'm trying to make a scarf using only the shell crochet. What would be the best way to end the scarf so that the final edge is smooth like the rest of the edges?
i really did'nt know how to stitch crochet. But after watching your videos, i have started stitching. i have made baby beanie cap , scarf for my baby and now i am making an afghan for my daughter.
I taught myself how to crochet, just simple stitches (I didn't even know they had names) and after watching this video (about 18 times) I feel like I actually know what I am doing... I am making an afghan for my sister's first child now in this pattern.... Thank you SO much!!
hi, first off i want to say that I absolutely love your tutorials! One quick question though, how are you holding your yarn? I can't really tell.. thanks!
Hola Teresa, muchas gracias por compartir tus conocimientos, ya he hecho varias cosas que tu enseñas. Quiero hacerle una blusa a mi hija, podría utilizar esta puntada o me recomiendas otra?
What size hook will you be using and how many inches wide do you want the afghan. I have not made up a size estimate yet so if you let me know, I will make up an estimate.
Hey Theresa, I want to make a shrug using that stitch but I don't know how many I should chain.

@LooLoo7711 I am not sure why it would be taller in the center unless you mistakenly worked extra stitches in the center.

The photo shows the shells with a different stitch in between the shell rows.
It's not the same as what is shown in the video.
Do you have the pattern for the photo, not the one in the video?

@miata06gal The photo instructions are shown in the video at @14:00

@Canthony12 When you get to the end, you will cut your yarn, pull the yarn through the stitch, give it a tug and sew in the tail.

I have completed my first baby afghan using this pattern. :) Turn out so nice!!
